5 pointsHere's a thought, if we stopped housing the rest of the world's problem we'd probably be spending less and wouldn't need to hike taxes.
-
3 pointsCorrect. The population of the country (and our city) increases yet the number of people paying in to sustain the services remains static. It's unsustainable yet never gets dared to be acknowledged.
-
3 pointsHis comment "Sheâs consuming resource. Sheâs eating food that other people could eat. You know?â is truly chilling. For those who don't know here is an example from Nazi Germany. https://jewishjournal.com/commentary/opinion/344763/whoopi-goldberg-is-half-right-but-what-she-got-wrong-is-all-important/ "The Germans even targeted their own, Germans of special needsâin offensive terms, âthe mentally retarded, physically handicapped, mentally distraught and congenitally ill Germansâ were considered âlife unworthy of living,â âfood wasters,â using scarce resources of the German people who could enhance the lives of their superiors. They, not the Jews, were the first to be gassed in the Tiergarten 4 (T-4) program, named for the building where the murders were implemented." Sewer politics has no place in a civilised society.

3 pointsYou're the one being conned. Your blatantly appalling naivety shows believing the multicultral left lies. People like you are the reason history will record that the West fell.

3 pointsSo spending almost ÂŁ9 million of taxpayer's money PER DAY doesn't impact what the government has to give to councils? There's nothing MODEST about the levels of immigration, legal or otherwise. Net migration in 2019 was around 184,000. In 2022, just 3 years later that figure is 745,000. That's a 4 fold increase. Since we're still short on doctors, nurses, engineers etc we can only surmise that the half a million extra immigrants don't possess these much needed skillsets The embarassment is yours and your belief that three quarters of a million people entering the country with nothing and no skills isn't detriemental to the country

3 pointsShow me where I said "all roads for cars" in what you quoted? Just for the hard-of-reading, I said that Pinstone St should have been left open, but strictly limited, to public transport, in terms of motor vehicle access, due to the fact that the elderly and disabled used it to access the area. Even with dedicated bus/cycle there would be massive amounts of space, open to greenary and such. As for your discrimination angle, so you don't think taking away an ease of access from 'differently abled' people isn't discrimination? The nearest bus stop is at the end of Orchard Lane. That's a fair distance for those with walking difficulties. It's almost 200 yrds from that stop to the old stops at the top of Peace Gardens.

3 pointsunderstandably, people complain about congestion. we've been prioritising driving for 70+ years = as a result traffic levels have risen (doubled in the last 40yrs), and are continuing to rise. Ignoring rising traffic levels definitely won't fix it, we need better alternatives. continuing to prioritise driving definitely won't fix it, we need better alternatives. ... it simply isn't possible to build / widen enough roads to beat congestion, every city has tried, with a 100% failure rate. ...

3 pointsSounds like they were performing a play based on Sheffield Forum.
-
3 pointsAll well and good trying to attract cyclists, but you daren't leave you bike anywhere in town for fear it gets nicked.
-
3 pointsIt's already too much. When you start closing roads and access to areas that mean it becomes difficult or in some cases almost impossible for some demographic to access, areas that were previously directly accessable then you've gone too far. When you concentrate on providing access only to one specific, minority, demographic at the detriment of other demographics then you've gone too far. The prime example of too far in Sheffield is this surge towards closing off roads and areas of the city just to be given over to cyclists. The biggest one being Pinstone St. Closing access to Pinstone St to all traffic now presents a massive access difficultly to the elderly and disabled wishing to access the top of Fargate, Town Hall, Peace Gardens etc. They were previously able to take a bus directly there. The council could have simply made Pinstone St into a bus/cycle only route, banning all other vehicles, including taxis. They could have also asked the operators to minimise the number of bus routes through the area to lower traffic even further. This would have kept access for those who now find it very difficult to access the area whilst still providing the 'Active Travel' paradigm.

3 pointsSilly bugger, that's a map of Sheffield, with the Peak district, Sheffield in the valley and Crooks at t'other end

2 points'Andrew Tate. What's Your Opinion?' 12/03/2024. I think it's the first time this year but I've checked & Tate is still a knob! Said it several times last year. Why you no listen? Tell you what I'd like to do. Have him introduce me to the woman in his life & have her my stand there while I verbally abuse them; belittle them & demean them. I'd expect him to stand there & applaud me. Do you think he would?

2 pointsMy bold. Unless things change on Pinstone St., how are people supposed to access the new Radisson from say Midland Station? Welcome to Sheffield. Now if you'd just care to drag your suitcases up Howard St & over the duel carriageway, a warm welcome awaits. Oxygen will be available at reception.

2 pointsI think that Abbott gets more negative attention than white female politicians. Some of that is undoubtedly racist in origin, although some is probably just lazy stereotyping. There are plenty of stupid/irritating/ abrasive politicians, but she seems to be the go to girl whenever anyone wants to have a go. I think we should be concerned about that. This latest attack by Hester is simply vile. Sheâs not stupid either. You donât get to Cambridge if you are stupid. When she went there, you didnât get to Cambridge if you were black and/or working class. Iâm not a great fan of hers, but I can see that sheâs achieved a lot, against the odds. She deserves to be treated better.
-
2 pointsIf a white person takes offence at a comment about a black person but the black person found it funny because they understood the context/joke, can the white person still claim a hate crime despite them not being of the race supposedly being subjected to the hate?
-
2 pointsThis clip was from the Simpsons in 2006. Like many other things they predicted, it came true - particularly the youth and their quickness to shout hate for anything - now common as "cancel culture" and "cultural appropriation"

2 pointsI'll definitely check about the Connect route. To your other point - in the plans, maybe yes, but not necessarilypecially in the past (es the recent past). A lot of our structure has been fairly hostile to a lot of disabled wheelchair users. It's the little things able-bodied people don't necessarily notice, such as when the planters and concrete barriers were placed to prevent terror attacks, coupled with the gates in certain places, poor placement initially forced wheelchair users onto cobbles, or around routes where there were no drop-kerbs or ramps to use to get to other places. It is actually quite a skill and takes quite a bit of holistic thinking to ensure all route are wheelchair and mobility aid friendly... where you think you've cracked it at one end of the route there may be an issue at the other end where that person wants to go. Open active travel spaces in theory (when well designed) overcome most of these issues. It is a shame that the anti-cyclist lobby has hijacked 'active travel' as a term all about cycling, because it is very much to enhance travelling for disabled people too.

2 points'Every time Diane is attacked, we feel it' - former Tory No 10 aide says Abbott key figure for black Britons Samuel Kasumu, who worked as a special adviser for Boris Johnson in Downing Street on civil society and communities, gave a moving interview about the Frank Hester comments on the Today programme this morning. He said that many people might not appreciate quite how important a figure Diane Abbott was to black Britons, and quite what a significant role she played in âour own island storyâ. Here are the main quotes from his interview. Kasumu said that many black Britons, regardless of their party politics, felt personally offended by comments of this kind about Abbott. He explained: Kasumu said that many black Britons, regardless of their party politics, felt personally offended by comments of this kind about Abbott. He explained: (1) Diane Abbott says it is âfrighteningâ to hear what Tory donor Frank Hester said about her â UK politics live (theguardian.com)

2 pointsNe'er mind. It still doesn't alter the fact that he's a hypocrite, a liar and a racist. who can control neither his brain nor his mouth, and the Reform lot will soon see that.
-
2 pointsLee Anderson has not defected. He had the Tory whip removed and was sitting as an independent MP when he joined the Reform party. Defecting is when a MP moves directly from one political party to another political party. If Lee Anderson had not had the Tory whip removed then he would not have joined the Reform party. Similarly if a supermarket worker gets sacked by Tesco and then gets a job at Asda then that supermarket worker has not defected to another supermarket.

2 pointsMy birth mother (not my adoptive one ). I met her when she was 90 , She lived on her own at Cleethorpes , I soon realised she was the local character , Her pension book was kept behind the counter of the local corner shop, This was due to her love of Whiskey , Port and Brandy , Before the pension book was deposited she had what she called her account at that shop ,(she talked like the Queen ). That account was way over her means as she was penniless except for the old age pension . Her daily order by a note taken to her shop by neighbours was a bottle of any of the above which she fully drank every day . Food was not important and was only provided by the local meals on wheels service or the odd snack that the shop sent round when they got concerned that she had not had any food delivered that week . She was as fit as a butcher dog , She would sing in the Street waving to all. One Sunday I got a call from the local Restaurant in Humberside . We have your mother here they said ,, Yes said I , Well she has had the full carvery , Four large whisky,s. and a Taxi here , She now says she has no money and to ring her Son in Sheffield and he will pay , I told them that that was their problem as I was skint , They barred her and a bloke gave her a lift home in his car . She was 94 at that time . Her daily routine never altered with the shop order , Her prescription drugs where hidden from her by a home help as she would take them on top of the Whisky etc, She lived to be 99 , ****** as a newt . Always singing

1 pointOne debate of course is whether GB news is actually a news channel requiring balance, or a channel which seeks to influence policy. Personally I'm not happy with foreign owned media in the UK, as there is too much danger of outside interests seeking to influence UK policies. Re. GB News, who does finance the business, which might be relevant considering the huge losses it seems to be making. Legatum is one financier Wiki Legatum: the think-tank at intellectual heart of âhardâ Brexit Financial Times the sudden rise of Legatumâs profile has raised concerns, not least among former employees, that the organisation is using its new-found influence in Westminster to push for a libertarian and socially conservative agenda that goes beyond its educational remit as a charity emphasising âprosperity and human flourishingâ. Call to ban government from Charity Commission appointments after Conservative donor's selection Third Sector The government should lose its powers to appoint Charity Commission board members, a sector leader has said. Another is Paul Marshall Wiki Millionaire church financier deletes right-wing posts The Church Times SIR PAUL MARSHALL, the hedge-fund manager and co-owner of GB News who sits on the board of HTBâs Church Revitalisation Trust has deleted all of his posts on X (formerly Twitter) after an investigation highlighted that he had liked and retweeted anti-Muslim tweets. 1 pointYeah, right. I bet you subscribe to GBNews but you only ever watch it alone. In the dark. Probably naked. Thats why you deny being a regular viewer. You don't want your dirty little secret to get out. Prove me wrong đ

1 pointThose are my thoughts about him - he's just an irritant and not really worth bothering with.

1 pointFascinating topic this. My OH always has a go at me about drinking. I very rarely go above 2 pints of average strength beer and thatâs on three nights each week. I never touch spirits or similar, a bottle of wine maybe at Xmas. The only time I go over 2 pints is when I go to the match, and then that might be 5 pints spread over the whole day and once per fortnight. The documentary Adrian Chiles did for the BBC was interesting. He drinks huge amounts weekly and doesnât even realise it .

1 pointRe post #24, @SheffieldForumI kind of understand what you are saying in your first paragraph - but - there comes a point where you have to use a bit of common sense. Taking your comments to the extreme, admittedly, but you could say a hill is an impediment to someone with mobility/breathing problems - what do you do - flatten all the hills?
-
1 pointBeing a 'traitor' to the British state is very much in the interests of most British people
-
1 pointYou believe wrongly - the current route via High Street is the plan, as the EV's destined for the route would be unable to access Leopold Street from Surrey Street, even before the access has been even further restricted.
-
1 pointNothing stopping them doing so now, this bus gate changes nothing. Most disabled people I know would be horrified that you are looking for an exemption for a thing like this.

1 pointApparently Lee Anderson signed up to a tory members bill to force defectors to face a recall petition for a bi election, surprisingly theres not going to be a recall petition or a bi election. we can add hypocrite to his description. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/lee-anderson-bottles-election-despite-32324594

1 pointMel Stride the Work an Pensions Secretary has said of Hester, his comments were "inappropriate", but "they weren't gender based or race based". This is what Hester said about Abbott: Sheâs ****. Sheâs the ****test person. Honestly I try not to be sexist but when I meet somebody like [the executive], I just ⊠Itâs like trying not to be racist but you see Diane Abbott on the TV and youâre just like, I hate, you just want to hate all black women because sheâs there, and I donât hate all black women at all, but I think she should be shot. Lord Marland said he can't be racist racist because he's a wealthy business man who travels overseas It's like the Lee Anderson story over again - "yes his comments were inappropriate / clumsy but they were not racist. Pathetic.
-
1 pointAre you a cyclist? 'Active travel' - the latest buzz-term - appears to concentrate on that demographic, but is clearly wrong.

1 pointNormally it's just using the WPS button... click it on the router (it might be on the rear or side depending on the model), and that should flash for 30 seconds, and during that window click the WPS link button on the TP Link device, and they should pair automatically within a few seconds as long as they're in range of each other. (WPS = WiFi Protected Setup for info). You can pair it in the same room, and once paired then unplug it and move it into the annex - you shouldn't need to sprint between the two.

1 pointThis was referring to a possibly dodgy video featuring Welsh schoolkids, which I'm not going to further publicise. I saw this on Twitter earlier, and recalled the post above, since I'd previously mentioned Tousi by name. I'm not sure when he changed and became more extreme in his outlook. Yes it's genuine, the screenshot is mine from his account; the masking of the swearing is down to me.

1 pointThey should incentivise it, ÂŁ10 per successful report. I look forward to it coming to the South West of the city, I fancy it will become my new hobby.

1 pointYouâre right. I was a housing worker just before and after 2000, some Northern councils (Kirklees was one) were advertising their empty homes outside their own areas in the hope of attracting tenants from elsewhere. I wish the government would stop Right to Buy. Scotland and Wales have withdrawn it, but not England. If there was more suitable and affordable housing for older people, that would free up more family sized homes in all tenures. People hang on in unsuitable housing, because they donât see any alternative.
