Let's not get personal or attack people for contributing to an article. There was a call out from The Tribune for folk to contribute last week and everyone had their chance to speak to the reporter if they wanted to and reached out to them. Not everyone can be included though, for space and the article's sake. All in all, I think it is a great article.

Happy for you to report any posts that break the rules, and they'll be reviewed for moderation. Also, I disagree with the 'GB News Lite' comment. Yes, some people do post what I would consider to be alternative views and opinions, but it does generally get debated and the opposing views given. Which is how it should be, really. Opinions aren't against any rules. If the posts become abusive or extreme, or specifically break the rules, then I will look at them (when I either see them or they get reported - obviously I can't see every single post made). And everyone is welcome to create their own threads about whatever they like, if they feel the balance is not to their liking or their (your?) views aren't represented. Again, as long as it is within the rules then it's fine.

I'm certainly not dissing them. Indeed, I made a point to say to Victoria that whilst there was a perception that the forum was overmoderated for a while (I do happen to agree with this to an extent), I know from experience that moderating is a hard and thankless task and the volunteer moderators kept the site going for a long time. Obviously not everything said can make it into an article unfortunately.

Big news, folks—Sheffield Forum has been featured in an article in The Tribune! 🎉 Titled “Sheffield’s Online Pub is Under New Management,” it’s a fascinating look at our 22-year history, our unique community, and what the future holds for the forum. The article describes us as “a great showcase of a quarter of a century of local people’s opinions”—what a legacy! I likened running the forum to being a “pub landlord” (😬) and a “custodian of a historical archive,” highlighting how this space has become so much more than just an online forum. @The_DADDY even called it “the first website I check in the morning and the last at night.” A huge thanks to The Tribune and the brilliant Victoria Munro for this amazing write-up. We’re also incredibly grateful to the members who spoke with the reporter—you’ve helped show what makes Sheffield Forum such a special part of our city’s story. 🙌 📢 What do you think? Do you agree with the “online pub” comparison? 🍻 Got any favourite forum memories to share? Where do you see us going in the next 25 years? You can read the full article here. If you enjoy it, please support The Tribune—their local journalism deserves it! Here’s to Sheffield Forum’s past, present, and future—let’s keep building this amazing community together! 💬✨ 📸 Image Credit: Jake Greenhalgh

Funny how none of these news headlines mention any driver's status, where they are from, what their mitigating reasoning is, etc. They concentrate on the offence for some reason (and this is just the first 10 I have found): BMW drink driver jailed after Whittlesey bus shelter crash: https://www.peterboroughmatters.co.uk/news/24841870.bmw-drink-driver-jailed-crashing-bus-shelter/ Unlicensed and uninsured driver jailed for killing couple during crash on edge of Harborough district: https://www.harboroughmail.co.uk/news/crime/unlicensed-and-uninsured-driver-jailed-for-killing-couple-during-crash-on-edge-of-harborough-district-4948714 Uninsured driver who killed biker in North Yorkshire crash jailed: https://www.itv.com/news/calendar/2024-10-11/uninsured-driver-bought-policy-minutes-after-fatal-crash Uninsured drink driver keeps licence after crash wrote off mum's car: https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/leicester-news/uninsured-drink-driver-keeps-licence-9796810 Uninsured drink driver crashed partner's car on A483: https://www.countytimes.co.uk/news/24814086.uninsured-drink-driver-crashed-partners-car-a483/ Peterborough crash in Park Road Millfield on September 15: https://www.peterboroughmatters.co.uk/news/24589478.peterborough-crash-park-road-millfield-september-15/ Uninsured driver crashed into house on Hereford Street, Nelson: https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/24651769.uninsured-driver-crashed-house-hereford-street-nelson/ Uninsured driver ‘ends up in ditch’ on Swindon road: https://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/24413035.uninsured-driver-ends-ditch-swindon-road/ Uninsured driver sentenced in judge road death case: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cyxeggnxwzdo Uninsured drunk-driver jailed for 18 years after 90mph crash killed six-year-old and two women: https://www.itv.com/news/central/2024-08-08/drunk-driver-crashes-into-car-at-90mph-killing-a-6-year-old-and-two-women

South Yorkshire Police have issued a plea for greater responsibility among dog owners as figures reveal the scale of incidents involving dogs causing injury or fear. In 2024, officers investigated 1,797 cases, with 1,049 people injured, some requiring surgery and left with lasting scars. Among those affected were 347 children, including 73 under the age of three. Chief Inspector Emma Cheney, leading efforts on dangerous dogs, emphasised the need for change: A Shared Responsibility While most dog owners are responsible, a minority poses risks to their families, other pets, and the wider community. Many incidents happen at home, with research showing children are most likely to be bitten by familiar dogs. This highlights the importance of understanding canine behaviour and recognising warning signs. Chief Inspector Cheney added: Key Safety Advice for Dog Owners To reduce risks, South Yorkshire Police offer these essential tips: At Home: Never leave children unattended with dogs. Provide your dog with a safe, comfortable space away from visitors. Use stair gates or other measures to separate dogs and children as needed. Out and About: Keep dogs on a lead in public spaces. Be aware of other dogs during walks. Ensure your dog is microchipped and wearing a collar. Call for Community Action South Yorkshire Police are working with organisations like the NHS, charities, and delivery companies to reduce incidents, but they urge dog owners to do their part. Resources are stretched, and the cost of policing irresponsible ownership impacts the entire community.
