These talented kids who in there own Country had their instruments smashed up with sledge hammers by the brave religious nutters in charge in that Country have finally been allowed to play concerts in the UK . We refused to give them visas for many months fearing that these talented kids would not go home once the concert tour was finished We should welcome them with open arms as music breaks down all barriers ( Except in these stone age Country's where Religion is prominent and makes every day life a nightmare ) . The Orchestra has now found a home in Portugal where they have been allowed to live for as long as they like . Perhaps one day they can return home and practice the music they love in a free and welcoming land .

I see your point, @Hecateand to some degree agree with the sentiment, but you have to realise the individuals who create these 'idyllic' scenes are themselves young individuals with no real idea of the world, and they are given the task of making the ideas of others - with equal lack of awareness - as 'appealing' as possible. The fact that they into advertising, rather than real life means they are about as much use as a pedal cycle on a 1-in-3 hill - going uphill.

This was mentioned as an aside in another thread, but probably deserves its own thread as not many people seem to know about it. South Yorkshire Police are trialling in certain areas a reporting tool for poorly parked cars. You can take a photo, fill out an online form attaching the photo and the police will enforce a fine or advice based on that photo/report without having to attend themselves. Some details: What is Operation Park Safe? Operation Park Safe was introduced as a trial by the Sheffield North West Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) in June 2022, after the local community named bad parking as a key priority in terms of issues they want the police to tackle. Operation Park Safe provides members of the community with an easy way to report local parking offences that police deal with via an online form. Following the success, the trial is now being expanded to the South East area of Sheffield. Unfortunately, the police cannot be everywhere. However, this initiative relies on the help of active citizens to help us enforce the law and make our roads safer. At present, this Operation is only being delivered in the North West and South East areas of Sheffield on a trial basis, and therefore parking issues experienced elsewhere across South Yorkshire cannot be reported in this way. What are we asking the public to do? If you spot a car parked and it is committing an offence, you will need to provide a written statement about the offence including the date and time it happened, alongside a photograph. This can be completed electronically via the Operation Park Safe reporting form. The photograph can be obtained from a still of moving footage (e.g. dash cam or helmet cam), but anyone submitting the form must make sure that they do not commit an offence themselves. For example, a mobile phone being used by a driver to take a picture is a serious offence. A notice of intended prosecution letter needs to be sent to the keeper within 14 days of the offence being committed, so it is vital that photos and a statement are provided as soon as possible. If you spot someone parking in an inconsiderate manner, do not challenge the driver or get involved in confrontation. Make sure you don’t put yourself at risk to obtain a photograph – only take a photograph if it is safe to do so. What will we [South Yorkshire Police] do? We will look into each report we receive and look to deal with the person responsible and issue fines or educational courses depending on the offence committed. Here’s a guide on offences you can and can’t report, plus a link to the form: https://southyorks.police.uk/media/11653/operation-park-safe.pdf

The Derbyshire Wayfarer is an excellent ticket. It can also be used to Long Eaton, Tutbury & Hatton and can be used around Derby on the buses. Subsidy of such a ticket in Sheffield would be better use of public funds than the Sheffield Connect scheme.

https://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/en-gb/ticketsandpasses/disabled-pass Anna, you may be entitled to an English National Concessionary Travel Scheme card because of your disability. Full information on how to apply is available on the link. The card would allow you complimentary travel on any local bus, tram or Northern* train in South Yorkshire at any time. You may also be issued one with a +C logo which would allow a carer to travel with you in South Yorkshire*. The ENCTS card can also be used on local buses anywhere in the country between 09:30-23:00 Monday-Friday and at any time on weekends. It may be useful to you for exploring Sheffield city centre as you would be able to use bus services to get between venues (all wheelchair accessible).

Bags were never 'free' they were costed into the price of your purchase. Has the price of shopping gone down since the charge for bags was introduced? simple answer No. Exactly the same for condiments. Do Greggs charge you extra for that brown sauce on your bacon and sausage baguette. No its costed for already. If they started selling in those silly sachets would the price of the sandwich go down ? of course it wouldn't. Keep safe out there and eat wisely .

I wonder how long the cobbled streets in continental Europe have been there? The ones that inspired Sheffield council to emulate them here. I’ll be honest, I don’t know but I suspect they weren’t laid down and ripped up 30 years later when they were no longer flavour of the month. The greenery is indeed a nice idea. But I do hope it’s maintained properly or it won’t stay nice. And that it is left to mature and not ripped up for some future vanity project when someone decides we need to ‘refurbish’ the city centre. The council evidently thought it would be nice to plant trees on Fargate once to add greenery but then decided to chop them down for this latest project. I never understand why planners like planting spindly little saplings but when they do over time actually grow large enough to be attractive they are chomping at the bit to chop them down!!

As someone fitted with NHS hearing aids last year, it strikes me that there is a big difference between a personal service, and mail order/over-the-counter. I've had two NHS appointments in the last 8 years or so; the first one my hearing was borderline, so I deferred for a while, but for the second I was certainly ready for a set. I don't wear them all the time, but now wouldn't be without for TV, cinema, theatre, face to face conversations especially with doctors) etc I find them too intrusive in noisy pubs, or out on a windy day; yes I can turn the volume right down, but then it feels like walking around with foam PPE earplugs; which is equally disconcerting when crossing the road. Fortunately I retired from Crookes to Derbyshire , so I could get a referral to either Specsavers, or my local hearing hub in Macclesfield; my first formal test was at The Hallamshire. When I was fitted for my current NHS digital ones, I had a full hearing test and examination. The test is essentially a pair of headphones, and push button to press when you start to hear the sound; all done in a sound insulated room with the audiologist on a PC in a separate office. Ears are tested together, and individually, and at a range of different frequencies. A personal profile is then plotted, showing which frequencies are most poorly heard, and in which ear. They may well be different for each side. Each hearing aid is then programmed to your personal hearing profile, for best performance; the two hearing aids are also programmed to communicate with each other, so adjusting mode or volume on one, works for both. You will miss out on much of that, with over the counter, or mail order aids, unless someone can generate a personal hearing profile for you.

The ENCTS pass also enables the holder to travel from Sheffield by train or bus throughout Derbyshire for £7.70 a day after 9.00 M-F. The Derbyshire Wayfarer can also be used in conjunction with single or return(including Advanced) to travel beyond the boundary stations like Ilkeston. Burton and Long Eaton with the bonus that the train does not need to stop at those stations. Senior Railcards no longer entitle the holder to the discounted Derbyshire Wayfarer fare.

Of course what made the Tory Party unelectable was Boris Johnson sacking 19 sensible MPs that were blocking Brexit, some very bright fellows ,including his brother, that are no longer in the Conservative Party. In the days that followed, Mr Johnson was bruised by his brother, Jo Johnson, who quit as a minister and an MP, then Amber Rudd also quit

Here's a Sheffield one, I believe there are others AS-SALAAM FoodBank We are pleased to launch our own As-Salaam Foodbank. We distribute homemade hot meals & drinks in Sheffield city centre every Saturday. These are kindly donated by families cooking at home and then these food are distributed. We also purchase food items for those people that request it. Our duty as Muslims are to help those who are suffering and are in need. We urge all those that like to contribute to contact the Madrassa. These items will be raised weekly and sacrificing a few pounds will not affect our weekly life. Charity money could also be used to purchase these items. All brothers & sisters are kindly requested to try to contribute generously so we could help all the Muslims & non-Muslims in need & fight the hunger. Sadly the anti-Muslim rhetoric, currently expressed by various folk, seems to help normalise this sort of attack Sheffield mosque is trashed and looted in suspected hate crime attack itvX Yes that's the same place as the one I linked to above, who are feeding Sheffield's homeless. Managers of a mosque in Sheffield who run a range of community facilities are counting the cost after their premises were trashed and looted by thieves. The Jamia Abdullah Bin Masood in Darnall - which runs after school sessions, a food bank and a homeless outreach project - had its holy books ripped up and equipment stolen. Mindless damage at the mosque which helps young and old alike Faith leaders have spent days trying to get the premises back to normal after they were targeted in what's believed to be a hate crime. Usually a welcoming space for young and old alike, the centre saw its facilities trashed and electronics stolen in the attack. It's put a stop - at least for the time being - to the services it normally provides. Mosque director Chafiq Mohammed said: "We do a lot for the community and we're not expecting this to happen to us. As a community centre we do no harm to anyone and we do support everyone in this area and it is a hate crime that all our Qur'ans all our Islamic books are on the floor. It's really upsetting." As regards the war memorial, it's not just a government handout Keeping memory alive The National Muslim War Memorial Trust is committed to the erection and maintenance of a national war memorial to commemorate the service of Muslim personnel to Britain’s Armed Forces during the two World Wars and subsequent conflicts. The Trust aims to further educate both school students and adults about the contribution of Muslims to Britain’s armed forces and their role, service and sacrifice during the two World Wars and subsequent conflicts. The initiative is supported by the British Government and General Sir Nicholas Carter, Chief of the Defence Staff.

Don’t mind it as such but what irritates me is that when you buy it (which we only do when taking our granddaughter) the box is so big and overflowing that you need a fork lift truck to carry it. I’d challenge anyone to carry it from the foyer to their seat without spilling some. echo.

I don't think we'll take advice from someone who violates traffic regulations and cannot/will not read a blatant traffic sign, despite being in control of a potentially dangerous vehicle. I think we are ok for that kind of advice.

They built them correctly to do the job needed. If they built them today to do the job needed, they would be built to a much higher standard. When Amey did Sheffield roads, they did a quick scrape and a skim when they needed much more. They are not capable of supporting modern buses and trucks such as bin lorries and the massive articulated trucks delivering to shopping centres. Just build to the standard required in the same way the Romans did.

One proud "moaner" to another. 💪 Begging is a huge problem and unacceptable in any street. There are organisations such as The Salvation Army on Charter Row for those genuinely in need. When East Midlands Trains (Stagecoach) were in charge of Sheffield Station, they highly publicised the "Help Us Help" campaign that worked to eradicate public beggars and supported means testing charities. It clamped down on beggars on the concourse rather effectively. Ofcourse the woke labour run Sheffield CC think we should all be bowing down and kissing the p*ss soaked shoes of people who beg and scrounge, so sadly the Help Us Help campaign is highly unlikely to be publicised by SCC. And as for WHSmith well if they wanted to reduce their footfall even more than the rapid decline over the years, putting chuggers in the doorway is the right way to go about it!

Don't know how many of you shop at Tesco, but this may be useful to know.. I've been the victim of a clever scam. This happened to me at Tesco, and could happen to you. Here's how the scam works. Two seriously good looking girls approached me as I was putting my shopping in the car. Their breast's were falling out of their skimpy T-Shirts, it was impossible not to ogle them. They asked me to run them over to ASDA, I thought why not. On the way they started having sex with each other, then one of them climbed over into the front seat and performed oral sex on me. The other girl managed to steal my wallet. I've now had my wallet stolen last Tuesday, Wednesday, twice on Thursday, and again on Saturday. BE WARNED!

Yes, yes, yes. Personal Finance should absolutely be part of the school curriculum. Maths is way behind the times. Has it changed that much since the golden age of education? Is it still teaching sodding logarythms? Personal Finance is now a necessary life skill that affects us all. Rich and poor. With the rise in house prices etc a lot of us are richer than we think and have more to leave to children, (hopefully) so it's more important than it ever was. It pays to be savvy. If schools don't teach the basics, who does? It puts poorer kids at a huge disadvantage; not knowing how money can work for them if they use it right.

I have to agree with you there, that's ludicrous! Is there one football club in this country - or any other country for that matter - that doesn't have some lamebrain pathetic no marks supporting them? No there isn't, it's both sad and pathetic but it's not the fault of the club or other supporters who are not involved and nowhere near the incident (s) when they take place. What were Wednesday expected to do about that idiot? No doubt he'll now be banned but unless clubs are supposed to insist on lie detector tests before issuing tickets I can't see what can be done about it. Wouldn't it have made more sense to wait while the situation was settled, then publicise the lifetime ban the idiot probably receives from the club in an attempt to deter other racists from doing the same? This makes it look as if the club is responsible, how?

How long is a piece of string? I’m no expert on maintenance issues. It will depend on a range of factors. If it’s the cold lay pothole repair material you mean, it doesn’t really matter if it doesn’t last as long as a “traditional” inlaid patch ( which are costly and sometimes don’t last long either) as it is quick and easy to do, so avoids the cost of getting permissions to work in the highway and installing traffic management measures. ( many small repairs can be done with “mobile” traffic management ie park a truck behind it with a big keep right arrow on the back, do the repair, jump back in and drive off).
