I know a lad who worked on one delivering to the Indian restaurant's down Attercliffe. They were known as "The onion bhajis"

I was visiting a friend in hospital. While sitting at the side of my friends bed, an elderly man with dementia , who was on the male ward , walked up to us in his pyjamas and said to us “ Do you know the nurses wont give me any clean pyjamas ! Pulling the waistband outwards to show us. The Sister in charge of our ward strode quickly up to him and told him to get back to the male ward. Which he did. She then asked me “ Did he expose his private parts to you ?” I told her that he didn’t. She told me that if he ever did, I must report him straightaway by going to her office. I told her I would do what she had asked if it ever happened. I did shout after her “ Unless of course it was George Clooney !”

That is brilliant. You ever thought of stand up comedy?

Never mind the ‘War on Motorists’. It’s more like the ‘War on Pedestrians’.

OK, I'll answer my own question. If you, @sheffborn&bred, mean obeying the bus-gate signs, the answer is NO.

To be fair the royal family did not withdraw permission. The photo agencies issues a ‘Kill Notification’, which is standard practice to retract photographs from circulation when it comes to light they have been heavily manipulated (news photo agencies take the integrity of photos very seriously, otherwise what’s to stop people photoshopping anything and everything imaginable and misrepresenting it). The issue is that a badly photoshopped image of the Princess and kids was released through the palace at a time of huge speculation about her health or wellbeing. Some were waiting for a photo or video almost as a ‘proof-of-life’ of the Princess, and the palace knew that, then released… that. It has had an effect of amplifying the conspiracy theories, rather than quelling them. The photo agencies gave the palace the opportunity of replacing the photo with the original unedited version and the palace has refused, which has stoked the fire more.

Of course it isn't the only issue and no, you can't 'just' replace the paving and expect miracles, but - as you say yourself - this is not just 'replacing the paving'. As mentioned umpteen times on this thread a lot of this work is utility work underground, preparing the area for more residences above ground floors (until now almost everything on the upper floors of Fargate has been retail storage or office) and diversifying potential uses on Fargate is important for it to have a more stable economy going forward. There are also things like cycle lanes and green spaces which aren't easily retro-fitted in to the existing surfaces. And actually, investment in an area is a sign of confidence that retailers, businesses etc, ARE looking for. It's not the whole answer, of course, but when you look at The Moor, Orchard Square, what have they done but invested in new public realm improvements, new buildings, adapted uses - all the things that the Council are looking to do on Fargate now - and both of them are enjoying highly successful periods. They are dealing with the same decline in retail, the same leasing issues etc. that you refer to.

It may be perceived as ‘negativity’ but the fact is a lot of those bikes ended up dumped and not used as intended which rather cancelled out any environmental benefits. I don’t doubt similar happened in other cities but the people in Sheffield are entitled to give their opinions on this. I did hear the vandalism issues were worse in Sheffield than elsewhere but stand to be corrected on this. A bike share platform is a good idea in theory but it would need to be radically different to the ofo one to work. Like a lot of these ideas around city centre and travel improvements it needs to planned realistically not idealistically.

There has clearly been embitteredness from the press agencies that the Princess takes her own photographs and releases them. I do not think the Princess had anything to apologise for.

Yes, IMO the Pope is correct. It will save many lives and make for a swifter recovery. We have come a long long way from men in red coats standing on a battlefield. Technology has moved on and continues to invent new and more efficient ways of killing, maiming and starving huge numbers of innocent people, and destroying entire countries to the point of no return. The only thing that never changes is man's stupidity in thinking this is an acceptable way of dealing with disputes and conflict. It's barbaric and has no place in a modern civilised world. Either put the Prime ministers, Presidents and leaders in the front line to do the actual fighting, or stop it. Stop it now!

Maybe Green King or Spoons need to sort a strategic partnership involving a micropub in every branch of Greggs so they've got the entire golden Mile including the Moor sorted. Some reyt pint of Ruddles/sausage roll combo deals on offer.

We've done that a couple of times when we've been to the Crucible at the weekend & stayed at The Mercure. It's a very weird feeling to leave home on a Friday afternoon & not come back until Sunday morning & feel like a tourist in your own city. At least we didn't have to ask where we were going.

The fact I would even consider voting Reform UK says less about my own political beliefs moving to the right and much more about the fact the political landscape has moved to the left. The present Tory party is probably more left wing than Blair's New Labour was. Charlton Heston (a 1960s freedom marcher remember) was once asked why he'd moved to the right from the Democrats that he used to support, and he answered "it's not me that's changed it's the Democrats". Stuff that's taken for "normal" these days would have been laughed at only 20 years ago, certainly 30 years ago. Can you imagine in the 1990s a speaker being no platformed because they didn't believe people could change their sex with the stroke of a pen ? Or historic monuments being torn down and/or having their names changed for something that happened over 200 years ago and was legal then ? Or that the whole of society was forced to stay at home and schools closed for months on end because of a virus with a 1 in 100 death rate ? Or that the police could be called because someone was offended by a joke ? Or that parents who want to photograph their own kids at school or competing at anything are thought to be "selfish" ? Or that people's holidays (and even heating) will be taxed out of reach !

I thought motorised bicycles were illegal (apart from motorbikes, obvs). I know the motorised scooters definitely are. Either way, they're a menace.

Exactly. We shouldn't have to give up our pedestrian space because car drivers are incompetent at sharing the roads with bicyclists. The answer is to stringently penalise cars parked/driven in cycle lanes and cars that don't give cyclists space or respect on the roads, not take away space from pedestrians. It's not our fault that car drivers are selfish. The answer is not turning pavilions and pedestrian safe spaces in to urban clearways for electric bicycles riding at speeds of up to 30 mph.

From what I've seen and heard of Anderson, He doesn't want our clean rivers and seas back He doesn't want all the nature we've lost back He doesn't want our national utilties back working for the British people instead of foreing shareholders He doesn't want empty homes owned by Chinese and Russian 'business people' back for British people to live in He doesn't want all the tax we're owed by multinationals back He just doesn't like black and brown people. I hope he gets gout concurrent with sciatica.

Reputable news organisations have rules against reporting using manipulated photos to avoid spreading misinformation. Letting Kate get away with releasing doctored photos would undermine the trustworthiness of photos they use in reporting on more serious matters.

The NHS wants more people over 40 to get a blood pressure check, saying there are millions who do not realise they have dangerously high levels. Often, there are no warning symptoms and it is thought about a third of cases are undiagnosed - that is 4.2 million people in England alone. Sometimes called a "silent killer", high blood pressure can lead to heart attacks and strokes. Free checks are available at many local pharmacies and GP surgeries. While the cause is not always clear, risk factors include being overweight, drinking too much alcohol and smoking. Lifestyle changes, such as cutting down on salt and quitting smoking, as well as medication can treat it and reduce the risk of complications.

It really isn't Padders. Russia has no interest in taking over the whole of Ukraine despite how the media state the opposite. I've listened to speeches, interviews and he's made it clear many times. Of course he could be lying but who's to say he isn't being truthful? I mean, we've had leaders who couldn't tell the truth if their lives depended on it.

Despite the internal negativity and constant council-bashing, externally Sheffield is getting a good reputation as one of Europe’s best city breaks. We desperately need a high-end hotel.
