  1. I fished both Sat and Sun. The pegs are at least 10 yards apart so I can't see a problem. There were only six of us on Sat but Sun was a little busier. This is a 35 peg fishery. Another fishery where i'm a member has three lakes so plenty of room for anglers who wish for some space. I did hear that at Lindholme the fishery owners did the match draw, putting anglers names in one box and peg numbers in another which is a good idea.
  2. To replace MOTD, the beeb had Lineker, Wright and Shearer discussing who was the best captain in the premtership. I watched five minutes before turning the tv off.
  3. I'd like to see some MOTD repeats from the 70s , 80s and 90s. As Despritdan says, some of the old World Cup games would make good viewing.
  4. Willman, can I ask where you got your composite decking from? My raised deck has had it's day and needs replacing.
  5. I saw the procession on Penistone Rd. Myself and others stood there for a good ten minutes watching it go past. A tremendous send off for the little fella.
  6. I went to school with Simon Riggs who's father owned the butcher's shop. I don't know if he went into the trade so the father, who would be in his eighties at least, may have retired or passed on.
  7. I liked the original theme music to The Bill. I also liked the tunes mentioned by Skye Edge, in particular Robinson Crusoe and White Horses, both programmes from my childhood.
  8. There are a few swims in Beeley wood which are fishable with a stick float when the river is carrying a bit of extra water. In normal conditions these swims are very sluggish. The swims are just upstream from Abbey forge and further up to the caravan storage yard.
  9. It did ease off for a while but heavy rain and wind again. When I got up this morning my missus asked me if I was going fishing!
  10. I had the mesh repair. A work colleague is having his op next week and was asking me and others about it.
  11. I had the same operation three years ago and have had no issues whatsoever. After returning to work I had to take it easy at first with regards to manual lifting but now it's not a problem.
  12. It is open again but i've not been in yet. ( I've always preferred The Angel ).
  13. There are buzzards around the ponds I fish at Thurgoland and it's quite common to see a lone one being mobbed by crows. It's a different story when the buzzard's mate decides to join in though.
  14. Are you any relation to Gillian Simmonite who was there the same time as me ( 70-75)? I believe she went on to marry Simon Stainrod, the professional footballer.
  15. I used a rotovator to prepare my back garden for laying new turf. It was a doddle to do and left the soil really fine ready for raking level. I actually bought one for about &60 which was about the hire price. I've since done my son's garden with good results. I did it when the soil was dry though.
  16. There are plenty of small pike in the canal willing to take a lure. I'm not sure about the permit situation though, I believe British Waterways took over control a while ago. I used to fish around the basins but not been down for a couple of years.
  17. The missus and me will be watching the Niagara display from our back bedroom.
  18. As a youngster I enjoyed watching Catweazle. Robin's Nest wasn't a great comedy but the Irish waiter/pot washer delivered some good one liners. It also had the lovely Tessa Wyatt who was married to Tony Blackburn.
  19. I had the pleasure of seeing Ginger Baker play with Hawkwind in the early 80's. R.I.P I
  20. I work on Clubmill Rd which is part of Old Tup's old stomping ground. Not only has the foliage established itself, the wildlife is also doing well. We regularly see buzzards soaring above the factory along with kingfishers on the river. At the back of our department next to the railway embankment summer evenings are spent watching bats flying about. Our bird feeders attract Goldfinches, various species of Tit etc. There are a number of foxes around which feed on an abundance of rabbits and rats.
  21. I get a reminder together with a &10 eye test voucher every two years from Specsavers. I only need reading glasses and on my last test my prescription hadn't changed but I was asked if i'd like some new glasses. I politely refused as i'm happy with the ones i've got.
  22. Can anyone tell me the name of the port that Bob and Paul went sea fishing from in this week's programme please?
  23. The Wharfe around Wetherby/Tadcaster and the Swale at Thornton Bridge, Topcliffe, Morton Bridge, Brompton etc hold some decent pike. It's been a long time since I fished these rivers so i'm not sure which stretches are day ticket. You could search for tackle shops in the area and contact them for information.
  24. Which part of Sheffield are you in? North Sheffield day ticket waters include Ecclesfield dam, Westwood, Newbiggin, Loxley fishery + Mill dam. I don't fish the south of the city but I know Aston Park, Carterhall and Kiveton waters. If Horseshoe fishery at Wales is still open, the silverfish lake is ideal for someone starting out. Some tackle shops stock a book called Fish It which is a good source of information.
