  1. I work in the Hillfoot area of Sheffield and yesterday there was a small bird of prey perched on a girder in the factory for a few hours. Many people thought it was a kestrel or a sparrowhawk but after looking at numerous photos taken another colleague, who's a keen ornothologist , is convinced it was a juvenile peregrine.
  2. My happy place is when i'm fishing. I usually fish alone and i'm in my own little world. There's no such thing as a bad day's fishing, some days are simply better than others.
  3. DJ Angling at High Green may be able to help you. 0114 2847576
  4. The Beverly Hillbillies won't have had any of these licenses so why should you Padders.
  5. Before moving to Grenoside aged twelve, I lived on Wordsworth Rd, Eston near Middlesbrough. The houses on our side of the road backed onto a field which served as a football pitch and playing field for the local kids. Trouble was we shared this field with horses and sometimes a herd of bullocks which had a tendency to stampede making us kids scatter. Happy days indeed.
  6. In 1972 I went on a school trip to Paris. One of the excursions was to Orly airport to see Concorde. We were given a tour of the aircraft but it wasn't as luxurious as we thought and the passenger cabin was actually quite cramped.
  7. I've been fishing with a little 10g blockend feeder which I half fill, leaving it out for about five minutes if I haven't had a bite. The peg i've been fishing has a small island about twenty yards out what I cast to. In calmer weather I would fish a tiny bomb and loose feed by catapult as the fish sometimes take on the drop.
  8. I did o.k actually, a mixed bag of mainly ide and roach with a couple of skimmers. I spent an hour fishing a couple of discs of bread on a hair rig but the vast majority of bites came on double maggot. My missus asked me to nip to the shop earlier so I took a diversion past my local fishery and surprise, nobody's daft enough to be fishing today.
  9. I managed to get a few hours in yesterday in the rain and bits of sleet. I played safe and just fished with a bomb rod and maggot. The weather seems to be worse today so rather than having to dry everything out again i've decided against it. I'm going to change the line on a couple of spools and tie some hooks instead.
  10. I collect fishing tackle though not intentionally. It's just that when a new rod or reel comes on the market and it seems to be better than what i've got, i'll buy it. Once in a while the missus will suggest I sell a couple, which I do, and the cycle starts all over again!
  11. Glad to be of assistance. Have a good holiday.
  12. I was unaware my new girlfriend was into exotic birds until I overheard one of my friends saying he knew her and that she likes a cockatoo.
  13. North Yorks. Waterpark, Wykeham, Scarborough, YO 13 9QU ( 01723 865062 ). Coarse lake and trout lake. Scarborough Mere, Seamer Rd, Scarborough. ( 01723 374017 ). Both waters have day ticket fishing. Rosedale fishery, Hunmanby, YO14 0LW, ( 07957 145711 ).
  14. We jurors were unaware there was such a thing as a knife awareness course and we did compare it to a speed awareness course where you're basically told you've been very naughty and mustn't do it again.
  15. I recently served as a juror on a murder trial involving a knife. A year before the incident the accused had been caught carrying a knife for which he was ordered to attend a knife awareness course. Because of Covid he did the course online. By his own admission, after completing the course, he continued to carry a knife which he later used with devastating effect.
  16. If you live anywhere near Sheffield Lane Top then Lane Top Club run a fishing club with regular matches. One of the clubs on City Rd also has a fishing club.
  17. Yes, they are. One of the camp's dogs, a lovely staffy, has worked out when we have our break and comes down scrounging a bit of bacon or sausage. She then goes to the sandwich cabin for more freebies.
  18. I work on Club Mill Rd and a couple of my colleagues walk past this camp every day from Hillsborough to work and neither have had any problems with the camp residents.
  19. Crookes Valley is free fishing. However, during this hot weather a lot of people are using it as a swimming pool so fishing might be a bit awkward. Another issue is parking. The car park next to the lake is owned by the university and street parking is minimal.
  20. I used to fish Crookes Valley Park regularly and I remember in the90' s one of the volunteers who tended the flower beds caught Weils disease. He was ill for a long time but thankfully made a full recovery.
  21. Dam Flask is known more for it's bream and pike fishing though there are also some big chub. I've never seen or heard of any carp being caught from there. Underbank reservoir at Stocksbridge holds a few carp but they are very elusive. I believe they were stocked by the association that used to run the water.
  22. When I was made redundant in the late 90's I did a couple of months working for Sunblest bakery delivering bread to factories making pre packed sandwiches. The money was rubbish and the hours strange but I always came home with a bag full of various freshly made sandwiches which my wife and kids would take as pack up.
  23. I used to tell my kids the worst job I had was shaving peaches to make them into nectarines.
  24. I'm afraid you're too late for this season as permits were issued during April when the pond is shut for maintenance. A notice was put up on the gate giving information on how to obtain a permit.
  25. Yes, Terry did a lot of field trips for Anglers World.
