In any case, they are ignoring the pollution near the Midland station because it's the trains that are causing the pollution. What about a sensible, well thought out policy? That's why I have kept saying that we need a proper public transport initiative that actually works. Big Sticks & No Carrots, rarely works. Totally agree about the ring road , its barmy having that in it .

While Russia and China produce tons more greenhouse gasses that contribute to climate change / global warming, it's local emissions of nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter that can damage Sheffield folks health to a far greater extent. Resident
Slightly off topic but in a similar vein. I was sat on Arundel Gate for about half hour killing time earlier today, just past the new Bus gate. SCC will have raked it in today with the number of drivers that blatantly ignored it.

So why does the air quality in Sheffield consistently measure as good then apart from the well known two hotspots ,eg Arundel Gate and near the Train Station?

They usually issue warning notices for first couple of weeks.

Around 6% of the penalties issued were successfully appealed. That isn’t unusual for any civil enforcement penalty issued. Which means 94% were paid. But it passes,so therefore it's clean ,well very very clean compared to what it used to be like when everyone had coal fires etc and all the steelworks etc etc ,don't know how us children of the 60s have survived!!
