  1. If it's Halfords it will be grossly overpriced. When changing pads I have found one set of pads can wear out a new disc,it all depends on what type of pad you get and the quality of the discs. There are a lot of cheap acky discs on sale nowadays, only way to be sure is buy original parts from main dealer, but these will cost an arm and a leg. it
  2. Just use it as is,you will not notice any difference, some older microwaves didn't have turntables anyway.
  3. This argument /discussion cropped up the other night when someone said if you drove an untested car your insurance was null and void.Checking on line did not provide the perfect answer, many sites said it MAY invalidate insurance, this is not conclusive enough for me.The law states that a vehicle must be kept in a roadworthy condition, failure to do this will invalidate insurance. However the DVLA state that an MOT certificate is only valid at the time and point of issue and proves the vehicle met the required standards at that time and at no time should it be relied on as stating a vehicle is in good condition. This of course means an untested vehicle can be in a better condition than one with a long test.SORN does not have to be declared if a vehicle has no test as long as it is taxed and insured. If you are caught driving a vehicle without an mot you may get a fine but it does not carry any penalty points,in many cases a friendly copper will let you go and just tell you to get it done. Also I would have thought that if insurance became invalid when driving without an mot you would automatically be charged and prosecuted for driving without insurance at the same time, but I have never heard of this happening. The whole mess is yet another grey area created by governments who don't think things out before implementing them.
  4. At one time it used to say the M.O.T had to be pre-booked at the nearest testing station, now the word "nearest" seems to have disappeared.I bet they would kick up if you arranged a test at Blackpool though. There is no need to SORN a vehicle just because the test has expired,as long as it is taxed and insured.
  5. There's a toy fair at Elsecar Heritage Centre next Tuesday(24th Oct) from 7pm to 9pm.Why not pop along, there's always plenty of Corgies,Matchbox,Dinky etc.You should be able to get a good idea of prices there.
  6. Why is traffic always blamed for pollution? In lots of places in and around Sheffield it smells like bonfire night day in day out. This is because of more and more people using wood burners. These monstrosities give off toxic particles which at best cause sore throats and runny eyes,at worst chest infections( hence your tight chest )and possibly cancer.Anybody living near somebody using a wood burner will have noticed their windows and surrounds have black particles on them, these are also entering peoples chest and lungs.Sheffield is supposed to be a clean air, smoke free city,it is high time wood burners were banned.
  7. I have never understood why people should have to pay to park in any town, village etc.We go to these places and spend our money there,in fact most of these places are dependant on visitors for their incomes yet the councils charge obscene prices for parking and employ an army of traffic wardens to catch people out.Places like Matlock and Bakewell are good examples of this kind of practice. If I can't find somewhere to park for free,I don't go.
  8. It's the two female judges that really bug me(not Sharon Osborne).Nicola whatsername hasn't a clue about makeup, she looks like something out of a horror film. The other one who keeps replacing Sharon( Don't know her name)keeps cackling and screaming, what a turn off.
  9. I wonder when this rule 219 was brought into operation,I suspect it was decades ago when there was very little traffic on the road and it was quite easy to move to one side.Nowadays roads are chock a block and this is almost an impossibility.Drivers therefore panic and they are not helped by the arrogance of the emergency driver.Of course both the government and councils are happy to collect the fines.
  10. I have just received my regular E.mail news letter from the RAC.There is an excellent article saying thousands of drivers are being fined for committing offences when moving out of the way to let emergency vehicles through. If a driver goes into a bus lane or a box junction they may collect a fine,if a driver goes through a red light, even very slowly, they may collect a fine plus 3 penalty points.Apparently rule 219 says drivers should move out of the way for emergency vehicles but all rules of the road will still apply and therefore drivers are liable to prosecution when breaking them.Drivers can of course appeal if they think they have been badly treated but it is by no means certain the appeal will be successful. It would seem then that the sensible thing for drivers to do is just stop where they are if they have to break the law to make room for the emergency vehicle, after all why should they risk collecting a £100 fine for doing what they think is the correct thing.Drivers should also bear in mind that only the police have the legal right to tell them to move.We have yet another case of the inmates taking over the asylum, the law wants amending.
  11. A couple of years since the coppers went there and booked the lot, there was a big outcry and umpteen people wrote to "The Star" accusing the police of wasting their time persecuting motorists instead of pursuing criminals. The police quite rightly defended their actions.I came back from Castleton this afternoon and had to negotiate the bend on the wrong side of the road because of this dangerous parking habit. It is the same every Sunday as well.It is time the cops payed another visit.
  12. They were 3 films which were directed by David Jason and starred David,Roy Hudd and Hywell Bennet as three old codgers who accidently met up and reminisced about their motorbike rides when they were teenagers. There was,of course,a load of flashbacks and the teenagers were played by younger actors. They were really pleasant to watch with good music from the 60s."The 1st Quest" and" The second quest" are on you tube but i have not as yet managed to find "The third quest".
  13. He was in "The Quest"films which also featured David Jason and Roy Hudd. The films were about three teenagers going on bike rides in the 60s, and featured some good music and nostalgic bikes.
  14. Yes that is correct. In fact there used to be a sidecar called "The Sidewinder".This was not rigidly attached to the bike but was attached in such a way that the bike could be leaned hard over to both left and right without the sidewinders wheel leaving the road. ---------- Post added 06-08-2017 at 15:01 ---------- 150,000 miles in 14 years for someone now pushing 70,that's some claim.
  15. I am now in the process of looking to change my broadband supplier,so I have been trawling through the comparison sites.I was really pleased to see the vast majority of providers offered "Truly unlimited broadband".However when I delved into the small print I noticed many who had offered this still had a "fair usage cap".This kind of marketing should be illegal,to me truly unlimited broadband should mean the service can be used 24/7 without incurring an extra charge. It's high time Joe Public was given some protection against providers who make these dubious claims.
  16. The Smart Meters are supposed to be able to be used by all suppliers,if you change your supplier you should not have to change your meter. However I just can't see why the government wants everybody to have one,and why they want them to have them so quickly, there doesn't seem any logic behind it.There must be a Con somewhere.
  17. This sounds logical in theory but in actual fact it does not work. The companies do not seem to care less. The boss of British gas was on Watchdog last week,he admitted his company had already lost hundreds of thousands of customers but he still seemed to think the company offered excellent value for money.Of course the government says the price rise shouldn't happen and Offgen should have a look.Offgen are making noises about doing this, now everything will go quiet until the next round of price hikes and the whole rip off will be allowed to restart.
  18. This may be true but there is such a thing as a good will gesture.
  19. ITVs useless, boring and complicated game show Cash Strapped is back again next week. This is replacing The Chase.I really can't understand this, the last time it was on, ITV had umpteen complaints so why bother, people aren't going to watch it,it will just be a switch over to BBC.
  20. I would be most grateful if someone could help me with the following.I watch a lot of motorbike racing, speedway in particular, on you tube.In order to watch exactly what I want and skip the rubbish, I move the video along using the little pictures that appear on the bottom as you move the dot along.I then know where to restart the video and can in effect watch a 20 race programme in about an hour, instead of having to sit through a video which is usually about 3 hours long.Unfortunately these pictures will not come on and I can find no way to make them come on.Can anybody help please? The laptop is an Acer aspire 5732z on windows 7.
  21. Does anybody really care about all this mush?Just drive so you enjoy it,forget the mpg.
