I hadn't had any Hendersons Relish for ages so I decided to buy a bottle last week,I used to love the stuff. However I was really disappointed. It was virtually tasteless, nothing like it used to be.The lovely distinctive flavour it used to have had gone and it tasted just like any other mass produced sauce on the market.Has anybody else had the same problem?

Should speeding fines be proportionate to earnings?
ivan edake replied to barleycorn's topic in General Discussions
I was correct earlier on ,you did get some more stupid replies. -
Council car parking charge changes..
ivan edake replied to PeteMorris's topic in General Discussions
Apart from the extra 10 minutes there is nothing really new here.Councils have never had the right to make a profit but they get out of it by saying they are only covering costs. It is just an attempt to win votes. In the meantime it does not appear that any changes have been made regarding the private parking companies who are ripping people off in supermarket and other private land car parks.Another non starter from this half baked government. -

Quite a sensible question but you have already got two daft answers, possibly more to come. -
I am pretty sure Reg Wilson, the Sheffield speedway rider was sponsored by Bufton electrics and he displayed the name on his racing leathers.

Berkley Precinct Parking Fine
ivan edake replied to AlquarUK's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
This advice is only partially correct.Definitely ignore the letters, however if the parking company does decide to go to court the registered keeper will be deemed responsible and taken to court if they refuse to name the driver. This amendment to the law came in when wheel clamping was made illegal. -
Universal credit rollout from Monday across the UK.
ivan edake replied to Janus's topic in General Discussions
Isn't it true that with Universal Credit housing benefit is now going to be paid to the claimant instead of to the landlord? It was like this many years ago but so many people got into rent arrears that the sensible government at the time decided to pay it directly to the landlord.I can only see massive problems if a claimant gets a months pay and a months rent together, some will spend the lot and we shall get more evictions. -
Worst Road Surface In Sheffield??
ivan edake replied to old tup's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
A nice polite and sensible reply mindbending,Why on earth do people like geared have to spoil virtually every topic on the forum with silly remarks? -
It would appear that David Cameron has been having party's at Chequers for his rich and famous friends. The cost has been around £80 per head and have been nothing to do with his job as Prime Minister, all have been private functions. However they have been paid for out of taxpayers money.Surely he should be prosecuted for stealing as would a member of Joe Public who had had their fingers in the till.

Good.I am really pleased to hear this.Local residents are boycotting this unwanted store quite simply because of the grief they caused whilst the store was being built.People power can talk.

Did you go to High Storrs School?
ivan edake replied to High Storrs's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
I went from 1952 to 1957.Headmaster was Mr Mack, he was really strict and quite fearsome as was the assistant head Mr Griffin. All the lads fancied the headmasters secretary who was called Nina.I really enjoyed my years there. -
IDS-free council house if tenants work for a year
ivan edake replied to poppet2's topic in General Discussions
Well said,I couldn't have put it better myself -
Although I only use the big name supermarkets I have always thought I was a canny shopper.I very rarely buy big name brands,I always try the smartprice type as in many cases they are better. However people keep telling me I should go to Aldi or Lidl so I decided to give them both a try.I found both shops had very little choice,a lot of things were definitely more expensive than I would normally pay,and of course the brands were unheard of.I eventually made a few purchases at each shop.I may as well have thrown my money away.Everything was rubbish.Doughy bread, tinned tomatoes thick in salt,as were the crisps, tasteless fruit, rubbery boiled ham, virtually veg free veg soup, the frozen food was disgusting, pork pies were horrible.Never again,it's not cheap if you have to throw it away.

Once opon a time whenever I wanted to get rid of an old car wheel and tyre I just used to take it up to Douglas Road tip and sling it into the back of a skip. This is no longer allowed and the staff had no idea where I should take it and suggested I ring Veolia. When I did this all I got was a lecture from an obnoxious female telling me I should never use secondhand tyres but always buy new ones then my old ones would be disposed of.She then said I should ring Rotherham council as there was nothing in Sheffield. This is probably why tyres are dumped everywhere and is probably costing the council more to remove them than it would to provide a proper dumping place.

After much searching on the internet I have come up with the following. There is a clause which says whatever a landlord puts in a tennency agreement there is a default agreement which is backed by law and the landlord cannot get out of it.It also says landlords are legally responsible to keep any entry or exit to the building in working order.I would therefore assume locks are their responsibility as it is not in working order if a lock is broken.I would also add that I have checked numerous tennancy agreements from various housing associations all over the country and they all state external locks are the associations responsibility. However Sheffield housing does not mention this.I will check at the citizens advice but they really are part time, only opening about 2 hours once a week.

Walkley St Marys school 1945/51
ivan edake replied to ivan edake's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
I started there about 1945.Class 1 was Miss Neville, she was really nice but she got married some time later,I can't remember her married name.Class 2 was Mrs Smith, she was a right misery.Class 3 was Mrs Smart. However by the time I got to class 3 she had left and her place was taken by a Mr Stokes,he was okay.Class 4 was "old pop" Taylor. He was a great teacher,I really enjoyed being in his class, especially as he took us footballing, cricketing and swimming. The final class was class 5,this was Miss Johnson.Miss Johnson looked old and extremely strict and I was quite worried about going into her class.I had the shock of my life, she was lovely, she was kind, gentle and really patient,it was a really happy final year in her class. The headmaster was Mr Prideaux, but he sadly died before I left. Some of the lads there were: John Duce,Bobby Clarke,Barry Betts,Anthony Matthias,Michael Young. And the lasses Ann Joel,Norma Dalman,Ann Taylor,Bromwen Smith,Carol Turton.I wonder if anybody could remember anybody else. -
Does anybody remember any of the teachers or pupils at St Marys School Walkley between 1945 and 1951?

As a tenant of a housing association property I would like to know who is responsible for the repair/replacement of an external door lock. The lock has just failed, I have not damaged it, but the landlords say it is my responsibility to meet the cost of repair. As the lock will have to be drilled out it would seem it will cost about £120.Surely this should be the landlords responsibility.
