pberry
We are talking about a car park aren't we? 1/ Why isn't it underground? 2/ Why isn't it underground? 3/ Why isn't it underground? 4/ Why does it look cheap and dated and sixties like? 5/ Why isn't it underground? 6/ Why does it look crap In answer to 1, 2, 3, 5: it's much more expensive to build underground than on the surface. I would agree that car parks can never be beautiful, but they can be iconic, such as Gateshead Multi-Storey. Part of British cinema history, no less, and like most of our postwar heritage it's going to be knocked down. A bold design for Sheffield. Better looking than the new University Dept of Music on Gell Street.
Aryan
Yep Moorfoot/Manpower is coming down, supposedly. This is what happens when "inspired, falward thinking, striking, futuristic, vibrant, exciting, contemporary" buildings like this come to the end of their very short life span (under 30 years). This cheese grater thing is the Moorfoot/council eggboxes of the future. Landscape out of bladerunner here we come....!!
Alastair
which is the brown one near the moor? thats awful. it looks so depressing. why is sheffield rubbish at designing decent buildings! they are all so mismatched. Well if you want buildings designed to fit into their surroundings then that turd coloured carpark fits into the heritage of the Moor perfectly. I think it is supposed to be a giant Gregs "meat" pasty actually.
Carborundum
I think the new car park is wonderful and looks fabulous when the sun hits it from certain angles ... I think ALL big buildings in the city centre should be ICONIC in some way !!!
Yog Sothoth
Yes, i'd love to see the Manpower (DWP) building go and have a cluster of skyscrapers down there. Or summat like that 'mobius strip' building in Beijing?

firecracker
It looks bad enough from the station, and looks even worse from close up. The building looks as if it's got pieces of junk fastened to it.
jossyboy
well i like it. its the best looking car park i've ever seen, what would all you complainers prefer to see there? at least it's a bit different
Unisol
I think it's ace. It's great that we are starting to see some prominent 'features' in the city centre. Next ............ Sevenstone! (great design, let's hope we get some good shops!)
