"they" want something from you??? Who is they? The doc's or the recipients? If you mean the medics, I would want your liver too, if I could prolong the life of my patient. If you mean the recipient, then that goes without saying.

Do you think 2 is too old to be in a pram? My eldest used to walk at two, and was really good, used to hold onto her brothers buggy. However, the youngest stayed in the pram a bit longer, as he was too eager to run off, regardless of where we were! He is 2 1/2 now, and walks everywhere really well, but if he didn't he'd still be in the pram. It really depends on the child, you cannot generalise that 2 is too old for a pram.

Yes, this is probable true, but council estate tenants are hardly going to have off shore tax havens, are they? I'm in no way condoning fraud of any kind, but I can totally understand why the very poorest in society might be tempted to try and increase their income a little. Someone who owns hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of property doesn't really need to do this though! They are hardly on the breadline.

Are Sheffielders Home-cooked, Ding-ding or Spoon-fed?
Loubbe replied to Kit!'s topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I really try to cook from scratch... bought a few recipe books and trying new ones each week. BUT I don't like to cook, and would much rather go out every night, have someone cook for us, and then clear up and do the pots afterwards. Food is always nicer when someone else has cooked it. -
Water and heat (which would include electricity and gas, since candles and log fires are no longer common) are indeed 'basic needs' but so are food, husing and clothing. Do people who work in industries which provide food, housing and clothing work for no profit? - If not, why should water, gas and electricity be treated differently? I think the principle behind privatising utilities (or at least one of them) was that competition would increase efficiency and drive down prices. This has certainly been the case with clothing and food (not sure if housing would comply). This doesn't seem to be the case, however. In fact, if one puts their price up, the rest soon follow. None of the companies are sticking their neck out to try and be demonstrably cheaper than the other.

Do you get ashamed sometimes of your yorkshire accent
Loubbe replied to teenyweeny's topic in General Discussions
The time I try to speak without my accent is when trying to organise a redelivery on Royal Mails automated system... It is a nightmare it doesn't understand me AT ALL. "Did you say four?" "NO I SED ONE! ONE!" "'Im sorry I didn't catch that" AAARRRGGGHHHH Surely the Royal mail sorting office in Sheffield should understand the accent! -
Can facebook be used as evidence to sack someone
Loubbe replied to fabcakes's topic in General Discussions
I went to a work meet a few months ago, and they specifically talked about fb. Basically, if you are going to be posting drunk pictures of yourself on there, do not affilialiate yourself with the company. If you are posting rude or controversial status updates, do not mention the company. If you are seen to be discrediting the company publicly this will be treated as a conduct issue, and subject to disciplinary process. Obviously this is a different company, however the general rule with fb is do not put anything on there you wouldn't want your boss or mother in law seeing -

Walking an old woman with Alzheimer's home in works time.
Loubbe replied to chem1st's topic in General Discussions
This happened to me once... I wasn't working but I'd nipped out to the shop, sans mobile. Found an old lady stood at the edge of the road, looking confused. She didn't really know where she was, or where she lived. I took her to the police station, and she was claimed by a care home nearby. When I got home my flatmates had given up on me and made their own tea -
Combi boilers are more energy efficient than the old ones, even if not on. Plus if you on standby. Mine is still lit with pilot on when heating on. Plus if you have thermostat that reduces cost, as it will turn itself off

Yes, this is something my school is really keen on getting the parents to do... but also beneficial to the parents, don't you think? I've volunteered for a few different projects since having the kids, running a mother toddler group when they were small, moving into the fundraising and management at their pre school, and next year it will be volunteering in the school. I do it because I can, I like to be useful, and I am gaining transferrable skills for my CV! But I do only work PT, I suppose if you were at work full time you might not be so willing
-
Some people already do this, surely? Not sure about all of the examples you've given but I know lots of parents and grandparents volunteer at the local school, and there is a pretty well established volunteering sector already established, that works with people with drug problems etc. It can't really be feasable that NO ONE gets paid to work in these areas, surely someone has to organise and manage the process..

Need advice about Disciplinary procedures hearing
Loubbe replied to JayRx1's topic in General Discussions
Take a union rep if possible. If not, ask for another rep to support you, someone who will remain professional and remain calm. They should make notes as part of the meeting. Ask to see the notes and check they are a true representation of what has been said. Sign each page and date. Ask appropriate questions, and get your rep to note the answers. Prepare questions ad evidence in advance, and find out what right to appeal you have if you disagree with the outcome or believe you have been treated unfairly. Good Luck -

Are funeral directors making too much profit out of their work?
Loubbe replied to aelfheah's topic in General Discussions
Not because of a budget, but I want to donate my body to medical science... they can have it as I won't be needing it. Has anyone ever done this? Does it have to go in your will or do you just tell your OH? -
Its not just the rich flaunting their wealth though, it's the constant nagging that you want, need, must have all this stuff... adverts, tv programmes, films, the internet, the neighbours, your workmates... it's all about richer is better. We should be concentrating on the improtant stuff, creating a good society where our kids can grow up loved, safe and secure. That should be important. Of course we now need money for that, to buy a nice house in the right catchment area, to put them through university, help them get on the property ladder etc etc...
