  1. They have a practice manager, I believe. Whether these persons will be able to manage 80% of the total budget, I don't know. It soulds a bit risky. Mecky, darn right people don't trust them. It wasn't in the manifesto, it's not in the coalition manifesto. The thing is, if the privatisations starts, I don't reckon, even when they get chucked out in 4 years, that it would be reversed once it has started. After all, the railways, water companies and utilities are still private now. RIP the NHS.
  2. Heh. Seems like she should learn to get a sense of humour. If something is on cctv, it should have really remained within the shopping centre, but I can imagine why the temptation was there to let people see it. Bet she sits down safely to text now.
  3. I can't understand why more people aren't worried about this... they are caling it NHS reforms but it seems like back door privatisation to me. I thought this country loved and cared about its NHS? I know its not perfect, but comparing it to the likes of the US system, which costs far more, it performs better. Disbanding PCT's and the like, it seems like NHS managers are perceived as adding NOTHING to the NHS, but I don't accept that. The NHS is one of the biggest employers in the world, let alone the country, it spends £90 billion a year, with figures like this of course people need to be employed to manage it. GP's aren't managers, they shouldn't be controlling budgets, they should be seeing patients, which is what they are trained for.
  4. Aaah good times... Monday: Shall we go to the pub? Tuesday: Pub? Wednesday: Fancy pub quiz? Thursday: Shall we go out? Friday: Weekend!!!! Saturday: Lets go out Sunday: Pub for lunch? The house share days were good days, even if we wern't actually in the house that much
  5. Try these recipes: http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/archive/index.php/t-192160.html I've made both, and they both tasted GREAT, but you use tons of cheese, so not for the calorie counters. Bon appetit!
  6. Unfortunately, some parent's DON'T support their children, either before the age of 16, or after. Others can't. Does this mean these children shouldn't be encouraged into further education? I don't think we should see this as free money, we should see it as investing in our less well off, in a small attempt to encourage social mobility. It is still the case that where you are born will affect the outcome of your life more likely than not... surely in one of the richest countries in the world this can't be right? If this money helps young people stay in education, improve their prospects and ultimatey become tax payers, I say it's worth it.
  7. I did this on a big hill in Chesterfield. What was WAY worse was the guy in the car behind me got out of his car to give me some "effing learners" abuse. Which helped no end. When I got away from the lights I had to pull over and the instructor had to drive me home, so distraught was I.
  8. How does this place compare to Kashmiri aroma across the road? Had couple of gorgeously delicious curries there... would feel like a traitor going to viraaj... but what if it is better?
  9. I don't think the coastguards are too happy about them, apparently from a distance they can resemble distress flares. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8569473.stm
  10. I've always fancied a trampoline. Seems like such fun. Of course I could get a trampoline, but wouldn't really want the neighbours seeing me trampolining... so would need a 30 acre estate with a great big fence round it, to keep it in.
  11. We got a cat from the RSPCA when it was down on Spring Street, said cat chewed his way out of the cardboard box they had stashed him in. Same, was not funny at time... "whats that noise?" next thing the cat clawing his way out of box and onto drivers knee...
  12. If you are sensible, you are insured! What would a "sensible" uninsured driver do if they had an accident, with another car, or a pedestrian? To protect themselves, I suspect they would drive off.
  13. There would have to be some serious changes to society to encourage this. The attitudes of 40 years ago, when a woman would get married, become a home maker and start a family just aren't there any more. We are all encouraged to work work work. If this is going to turn into a serious problem, then families will need to be supported in order to reproduce. As other posters have stated, the financial situation for many dictates they cannot be parents until they are secure in job and home. Many of my friends are now having first babies in their thirties, for these very reasons. Regarding birth defects, I think most women are aware of the impeding 35th birthday, but it is a choice, like any other, that has to be made. Is it more irresponsible to try to become pregnant after 35 when you are and your partner are in a stable home and a steady job? Or to fall pregnant at 17, with no financial means of supporting your baby, no home of your own, and minimal life experience?
  14. That's just awful. Even if the girl didnt understand it, the parents must've. Where do you even buy trash like that? Not in the shops I go to!
  15. My accident was a number of years ago, when I was a child. The fact remains, it is the insurance that pays, if the numbers paying insurance fall, how will accident victims be compensated?
  16. I have been hit by an uninsured car. Not as a driver, as a pedestrian. He lost control and mounted the pavement. Had he been insured, I may well have been given substantial compensation for my extremely serious injuries. Insurance is expensive, but could you really live with yourself if you seriously injured, or even killed someone, and you could not even try to recompense them?
  17. We went to Santa at the Museum on Christmas Eve. Was nice, the grotto wasn't the best, but Santa had enough time to chat to the kids for a while as not too busy, he looked the part, and the gift was OK (it was a fiver, though)
  18. Played very funny game other year, where players had to answer questions about other players... To sister in law, about brother in law... "whats his favourite food?" "Erm, Pies" "Are you saying I'm fat? I don't eat a lot of pies" "erm, no..."
  19. Every year we get a bottle of Hock. It stays, on the wine rack, the unspoken Emergency Alcohol, for when we have absolutely, positively drunk every other drop in the house..
  20. Kola Kubes!!! Although they were slightly uncomfortable until the corners dissolved a bit
  21. You may well be right, but the publicity and press relating to "my snowman's been nicked" doesn't seem to deter these buffoons. I work in an environment where I have had to call 999 several times, for different reasons. On one occasion I had a woman who had collapsed on the floor, and I was ON HOLD to 999... It was pretty scary, as the assumption is there the phone will be answered immediately. Like the story says, it may only take a minute or so to establish the call in a non-emergency, but if you need assistance, it is a long minute...Perhaps the threat of a fine would be more effective
  22. I don't understand why they don't dish out fines for these people. Idiots.
  23. We have had a problem with our condensor this week that I believe has been quite common due to the cold weather... if you have a condensor check your waste pipe isn't frozen, as this will stop your boiler working. It will need defrosting... think kettles and hairdryers...
  24. Petrol has now reached an average price (for unleaded) of 121.9 per litre. And more rises are due in January. How high can it go? How much can we afford to pay for our petrol before more and more people are priced off the roads?
