  1. Wynne Evans already had an established career with Welsh National Opera, although his parody of Caruso on the ad has made him a bob or two.
  2. One of the more memorable was the Mr Kipling fruit pie ad, he had the distinctive voice. One I didn't care for was the 'Howard of Halifax' (Building Society) one, the black man with specs doing silly songs; and that's probably why I remember it.
  3. Most tv ads have only a brief run, so they use surreal special effects, plenty of movement and noise to keep your attention in the hope the viewer doesn't get up to put kettle on.
  4. Best device I ever bought, less than £20 I think it was for a 500GB portable HDD plugged into a USB socket on my 'smart' tv'. It records an enormous amount of programmes and as you say 'fast forward' through the ads.
  5. For a brief period I worked at James Neill on Summerfield St where they made small magnets, the faces of them being ground by a team of grinders on small bench grinders. There were no masks or eye protection, not even gloves therefore some had bandaged knuckles/fingers where they had nudged the wheels whilst grinding the tiny magnets!
  6. This photo is from a recent Council's email promoting a vegan market. Anyone care to guess what's remarks might have been made between the young lady and man?
  7. Can anyone remember any song from the last few years? Doubt it. Even Eurotrash songs were better than these, I turned off after 25 mins. Anyway, I can't do with shows that have whooping and screaming every time some singer opens their mouth. I can only remember the songs by Sandy Shaw, Abba, and Cliff Richard I think. The most successful song in Eurovision history was by this singer, winner of the 1958 contest.
  8. Depends on the level of use. A single man/woman in a flat might use the washer once a week, if that. A family of 6 or more might use it every day (or most of the day on two or three days a week). I knew someone who used the machine so heavily they went through one every 2 years or so. My Bosch, a fairly basic model (which I bought s/h about 10 years ago , it was 18 mth old then) gets used on average once a week and is still ok.
  9. Presume you mean the outer tub/drum? I wasn't aware of the recycled bit, but I would think that the drum should have a durability of at least 5/6 years. Why not ask the seller if you are considering buying.
  10. Right, thanks, it's so long since I used that section. When I viewed the Accounts page, I failed to spot the "Other Settings" option over on the right!
  11. When I click on my user name in the top right of the screen the drop down menu appears (as normal) and all 12 options are displayed, however the classified, settings and content options will not respond, these 3 showing in capital letters, the others in lower case. Does anyone know why?
  12. On the junction of West St and Leopold St (where it was attached to the Education offices and the City Grammar School), and round the corner onto Holly St, which led to the rear of the City Hall.
  13. An alternative idea would be for them to have a whip-round of their supporters (or crowd funding), and buy it for themselves, then they could do whatever they want.
  14. Viola, violin, saxophone (rarely used in orchestral works due to its 'loud' tone, although one is used in largely solo form in Kodaly's Hary Janos Suite.)
  15. Interesting measurement of pollution from this site, not sure about the methods etc, but someone might https://air.plumelabs.com/Sheffield-air-quality-map-b4hD
  16. Noted! yes, it's a tricky area to the unwary is currency conversion, and I will note any advice there.
  17. I was on my way to an afternoon shift (quite a few years ago) and I pulled into side road adjacent the Southey Library to return a book. As I was unbuckling seat belt, an attractive young lady tapped on the window, I wound it down and she said would I like to go with her to some nearby house to look at something (can't remember what it was). I replied (sadly) that I was on my way to work and wouldn't be able to admire whatever attraction was waiting for me at said house, and would get docked 1 hours pay for being 3 minutes late.
  18. Called in their branch this morning, apparently the cost is just the exchange rate on the day of use.
  19. I'll pop in Post Office down Hillsboro to see what they offer, and Virgin as well. Had a look and it seems easy enough to set up a current account with Chase, surprisingly few conditions.
  20. I will be going to Spain shortly (first time abroad) and have been looking at the various ways of obtaining euros (for the best rates, of course). As it happens I have a Virgin Money debit card which is supposed to be 'fee free' but I can't get to the bottom of whether there are charges when using the card for purchases or using an ATM there. So, any advice welcome.
