  1. Two shops I remember in that location were Numbers 1 & 2 Machine shops, which were gone long before Meadowhall was even built
  2. Just listening to the much-underrated female vocalist Jennifer Warnes and her album of Leonard Cohen songs i.e. 'Famous Blue Raincoat'. Outstanding body of work starting with the wonderfully atmospheric and addictive 'First We Take Manhattan'.
  3. The ' suspicion of murder ' bit, gets me wondering if the guy went a bit further than was reasonably acceptable for self-defence in the eyes of the law. Otherwise, the charges, if any. would surely be manslaughter at worst. Just because he is 78, doesn't mean he is frail, there are some strong and fit people in their 70's, I am 73 and I would have a go at anybody who tried to harm or rob me or my family.
  4. Wednesday were in both cup finals that year, trouble is so was Arsenal:mad: ---------- Post added 04-04-2018 at 20:06 ---------- Especially against the same team in 2 of 3 finals and 1 replay eh?
  5. I got him pegged the first time I saw him. I was over there in 2005 and my brother , who is a Man U. season ticket holder, took me to a game, using his mate's pass. I remember saying "That kid running the wing has fantastic ball control," My brother told me who he was and I became a fan, until he got Rooney sent off in the World Cup later on. However, I have always respected his skillset.
  6. Big difference, this guy went berserk. Stabbing a guy 12 times in the back mostly outside, when the burglar was trying to flee is not self-defence, by any stretch. On the other hand, on the face of it the 78-year-old should not be charged, the fact that he too was hurt tells the story, in my view.
  7. Wow, just seen the video of Christiano Ronaldo's second goal at Juventus, that was out of this World even the Juve fans gave him an ovation. A bicycle kick type goal has to have an element of luck, but this looked so clinical it was almost surreal.
  8. I lapsed before I even left school, I relate to his experiences quite a bit, he had Catholocism rammed down his throat by Nuns, I, by De La Salle brothers. My Parish Priest used to phone my school every Monday to say I had missed Mass the day before. Of course, then I would get all the fire and brimstone crap from the first teacher of the day or in the headmaster's office at lunchtime..LOL
  9. Well, I have known a lot of Welshmen and I can assure you they can cuss with the best of us.
  10. Dave was a very smart comedian and a fantastic person, he could be as funny in real life as he was on stage. Met him on a train many years ago when I was still living over there. No airs and graces from him. He was the one who spoke to me, before I could think of how to approach him. Lol.He just seemed to want me to feel at ease, as he could tell that I recognised him. RIP funny guy. ---------- Post added 02-04-2018 at 19:29 ---------- He had many death threats from Ireland, in those days. My favourite one of his was when he said that he thought the signs of the cross went " In the name of the father, and the son and into the hole he goes" . He says that he first heard it as a child attending a funeral and the Priest was saying it as the casket was being lowered into the grave. LOL. It takes pure genius to think one up like that.
  11. That reminds me of a game against Everton at Hillsborough in the 60's, I was near the front on the terraces when Roy Vernon(Everton's skipper), a notorious chain smoker, came right over to take a throw in. As he was running over to retrieve the ball, he was almost close enough to touch, when I shouted " Do you want a drag Roy"( I was chugging on a Park Drive). He stared right at me and said "****off" ---------- Post added 02-04-2018 at 19:08 ---------- Good one Z.
  12. Probably a case of the little head overruling the big head. Quite common, I believe.
  13. Is that the one where Roger Daltry ( Who) plays John McVicar? ---------- Post added 01-04-2018 at 15:02 ---------- No, I am wrong here, that film was called simply McVicar.
  14. If they have had their British citizenship removed, why bother trying them in Britain, let them suffer at the hands of their captors. They wanted to go and fight in the desert, let them be tortured and die there.
  15. Pity you don't have skunks over there, you could have blamed them, they smell a lot like the smell of cannabis smoke. when they let one go.
  16. Can't believe you even got points for 7mph over, especially by camera. Most cops over here won't even give a ticket under 10 km(6 mph),and it would not even be close to 100 dollars, let alone pounds. No points would be issued by the court under 15km(9.3 mph).
  17. " Magic ah Morris" Very funny man RIP Bill.
  18. A Handmade Films Production, no doubt.
  19. Plus people use them several times, which is the point. I know we do, when they get tatty we put them in the recycling box.
  20. It's the same old argument legalise and regulate a "sin" and you get rid of the crime that controls it. It worked when off-course betting became legal in 1961. It works where prostitution is legalised, and if it is done right it can work with hard drug addiction. Canada is starting the ball rolling on soft drugs. In July the sale of Marijuana becomes legal and will no longer be a street corner drug. True a few US states are already doing this, but in Canada, it will be nationwide. ---------- Post added 27-03-2018 at 18:00 ---------- That reminds me ,time to wake the old lady up.
  21. I knew somebody who could limbo under a snake's belly wearing a top hat. Note: The limbo dancer was wearing the top hat, not the snake.
