You really think so?

In an ideal world, yes; but in reality there will always be some. Do we do enough to stop gambling, alcohol and drug abuse?

Do we want unlimited large casinos? Bookmakers on every street corner with fixed odds betting terminals?

Do we want healthy food, with meat that does not contain drugs used in animals?

What sort of society do you want?

A difficult one to change I'm afraid. I'm totally sympathetic to your ideals but fundamentally we are all Thatcherites.

Speak for yourself, I think many believe in free market economics, but who should the profits of the country go to?

The bosses are running away with pay rise, after pay rise. The Thatcherites are helping the rich, who will help the rest of us?

Maggies death couldnt have happened at a better time for Cameron, its diverting all the flak away from the bedroom tax situation,I believe history will show that Cameron is far worse than Maggie ,she may have had a pop at miners and steelworkers but at least they could fight back ,Camerons hitting the weakest in society who have no power whatsoever to fight back.

You are no different to the rest of society, you are governed by the same rules and you conform to the same rules. If you don't conform you don't survive. If you don't conform and do survive then you have your own little sanctuary island amongst the sewage.

As long as we talk "wealth" as the beacon to our salvation as humans we're lost. I mean look at your post..pay, wealth, business, bonus, bosses. It says nothing about a fundamental shift mentally unless you can have more money in your pocket.

I don't profess to be a fan of Thatcher, however she had more testicles than any other politician of her time.

The age of the house no matter who lived in it identified how much rent has been paid for it over the years and how the constructions costs etc have been repaid.

It's not about recouping the cost of building the property - it's about how councils provide housing for those who need it. With reduced levels of council housing, taxpayers end up paying more than they otherwise would to house people in private rented accommodation. Much of this is ex council properties that were sold at below replacement cost (let alone market value). Here's an example of that from Right to buy turns ex-council homes into buy-to-let 'goldmine':

Councillors say that some ex-council flats in Westminster owned by buy-to-let landlords are being rented out at £500-plus a week, over four times the average rent of council flats.
Read that carefully - taxpayers pay over four times a much to house people in ex-council flats. As a tax payer, do you think that's a good idea?

If you disagree with subsidies do you want housing benefits to be scrapped ?

There's a difference between subsidising people who would otherwise have nowhere to live and selling council owned property at below value so people make an instant profit on it.

State ownership and private ownership are completely different matters.

Not necessarily - see article linked to above.

Why is it you don't profess to be a fan? What reasons are you not a fan?

And more testacles than any British politician now, and for that she has my respect !

I was a union member for 30 years of my working life, her policies, albeit not exclusively, did affect my employment in the steel / engineering industry when I had a young family, but I am not bitter or twisted about her time as PM, we moved on, got on with working and living.

Too many commentators are exaggerating her legacy, from both sides, but one things for certain if she was in power now we would not be the soft touch Britain that we are today !
