  1. Having driven down there today, I would say the 24th is really, REALLY, optimistic..
  2. You've answered your own question. Derelict allotments take a lot of time and effort to bring up to scratch and get productive. It's hard work, but it's fun and once you harvest that first crop you'll feel amazing !
  3. Have a look at this, should help; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenancy_Deposit_Scheme_%28England_and_Wales%29
  4. As always, The Simpsons has the words I want to say;
  5. I see that John Lewis has filed an objection to the IKEA development. Not a big surprise really, seeing as they are probably being supported by SCC in their objections. :-)
  6. Those double yellow lines don't look very well defined to me, you *may* have a chance of winning an appeal..
  7. This: http://nsmra.stmgrts.org.uk/japanese-knotweed-2a.jpg is knotweed.
  8. My suggestion would be to take it easy for a start! If your plot needs clearing, do a bit at a time. I've seen loads of people take on a plot, spend all their time there and get burnt out and bored by it. By doing just bits at a time you don't get burnt out and keep looking forward to it. And yes, keep an eye out for anything useful. Especially compost bins, greenhouses, free manure !
  9. Hi BarnseyB, i'l also in S2 near Norfolk Park and i'm with Origin Broadband (http://www.origin-broadband.co.uk/) and i'm on their Max package, I get approx 80mb down / 20mb up. I used to get about the same as you on ADSL so it's worth moving across. Phil
  10. It'll be fixed in 2017 if your lucky. https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/roads/works/schemes/streetsaheadproject/works-schedules/works-map.html#
  11. Lots of arguing and people wanting an IKEA but only two comments (including mine!) on the planning application? C'mon people, make your voice heard ! Ikea Planning Application: http://publicaccess.sheffield.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=MN3M84NY09900
  12. If this other person had Power of Attorney (Lasting or Enduring) then that right finishes with the death of the account holder. https://www.carersuk.org/help-and-advice/practical-help/when-caring-ends/when-a-person-dies?start=3 I can't comment on the legal side, it would be best to see a solicitor.
  13. Hi, Don't normally bother with these kind of threads, however does anyone know what was going off on Manor Lane & City Road today at approx 16:00? There was loads of marked police cars (I counted at least 8 ), police dogs van, at least 3 undercover cars and the police helicopter. Looked like a big op, can't find anything on usual outlets though.
  14. Just done a check with Origin Broadband postcode checker, used the postcode for Chapeltown Surgery which is S35 1TD, and it gave me: http://origin-broadband.co.uk/availability/?pcode=S35%201TD So there should be some kind of Digital Region service nearby, pop your postcode in and get signed up !
  15. It does also say in the letter that if you can't afford it all in one go they could look at setting up a payment plan. I believe that is a fair way for people to keep their allotment and pay for it a bit at a time, even though I agree that the price rises are a bit steep.

  17. Yes, I agree about the agenda part. Tracing the IP that added that section leads to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:164.36.38.240 "This IP address, 164.36.38.240, is registered to Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (United Kingdom) and may be shared by multiple users of a government agency or facility. If the agency or facility uses proxy servers, this IP address may represent many users at many personal computers or devices." Which is very, very interesting. Basically, the Government department that co-owns Digital Region appears to be speculating that the network will be dismantled? I've removed their crazy edit as there's no such speculation as far as I can find. Those crazy tory boys..
  18. Do you have any compelling reason to move from Windows 7 to 8? As anywebsite said, chances are the boot partition will be overwritten if you upgrade. You'll probably need to boot from the Ubuntu CD/USB and re-write GRUB to the bootsector after the upgrade. Personally, I wouldn't bother as I don't think Windows 8 is a worthwhile upgrade.
  19. I believe EAC (Exact Audio Copy) will do what you are looking for; http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/
  20. I take it your wanting to replace an existing euro cylinder lock? Buy 'em from here: http://www.handlestore.com/category/Cylinder-Door-Locks/0/ and fit them yourself. Easiest job in the world, 1 screw holds them in. Don't bother paying someone to fit them for you, you'll get ripped off. Just make sure you take out the existing cylinder and measure it so you buy the right size.
  21. Waste of time and money, avoid like the plague. Also, use a browser with the Ad Block Plus (http://adblockplus.org/en/firefox) extension installed, no more ad's to confuse you. And to help tidy up your PC I recommend CCleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner) free version, don't bother paying for the "support" as it's the easiest thing to use. Also amusing that the forum censors the word "Ad Block" used without the space.
  22. Welcome aboard the allotment train! I used to have a plot on Infield Lane, until some idiot burnt a huge pile of tyres on the plot next to mine. Have a council plot on the Manor site now. I don't have anything to offer i'm afraid but I hope you get some stuff, and enjoy growing!
  23. I think you'll find that superfast broadband is within the councils remit, via BDUK. http://www.culture.gov.uk/what_we_do/telecommunications_and_online/7763.aspx The only thing that has gone wrong, IMO with Digital Region is the complete lack of advertising. This however, cannot be blamed on DR Ltd as they are a wholesaler. It is up to the ISP's using the network to make people aware. This mainly a failure because no big budget ISP has got involved so far, I am sure that if PlusNet hadn't be swallowed up by BT they would have been involved and it's only just now that I am seeing Origin Broadband putting flyers up on cabinets. Lots of work still needs to be done to make things profitable but it can, and I hope will be done.
