  1. Hi No idea why someone suggested its a racist area, I can't vouch for Meersbrook generally, but the area around the park seems to consist of middle class families, hippies, green eco-warriors and politically correct liberals - unless thats just the locals I've met Tigs
  2. We have the same problems with cretins in the park opposite us, and the police don't seem to discriminate on race, just on calls that they can get some success figures on! Catching youths never happens as the police response times are rubbish (if they actually bother coming out), so the problems generally moved on once they manage to appear.
  3. sorry for the duplication, my network is running very slow!
  4. We've suffered from anti-social yob behaviour in the past, and I think that its a really good idea, insofar as a deterrant. Ie the yobs move on elsewhere, where their antics are not tackled. Eventually, as a result, more people might be willing to get involved in stopping anti-social behaviour, instead of the usual, "I'm alright mate". Unfortunately, you seem to have to be affected by this kind of disruption before you're willing to get involved, in my experience. Although I'd subscribe, would any neighbouring communities? CCTV cannot point into private residences by law, so I'm not sure why the previous postee was so worried about his/her privacy. What's to worry about if you're a law-following citizen and a CCTV is taking video of potential street incidents?

  6. We've been fighting a losing battle against snow spray (it really gets into the brickwork!) and permanent pens recently. I'd love to have to time to spray them with cold water when in the act, but I sadly have a life and a job to pay the mortgage on the house they are desecrating!
  7. Hi Think we have been in touch before, and as a result your hubbie and James did our windows! Not sure if you'd be interested in any private work, but if so I've been looking for a thorough cleaner! I posted a few days ago about it! PM me if you want more info, Tigs
  8. Thanks for this, I'll let some folks know who might fancy coming along!!!!
  9. My faves Manchester is always a good choice, with loads of gorgeous restaurants, good venues/shows, and great nightlife options. If you're ok about a drive of 1.-2 hrs -....Chester..Leeds...York...Liverpool... Some of these have great restaurants and nightlife, the others have more cultural or historical interest! I love the East coast - Whitby/Staithes/Robin Hoods Bay, but its quite cold this time of year!
  10. Hi Any (sensible!) suggestions appreciated! We have new neighbours, whose dog barks constantly when left alone, locked in the kitchen. This is really starting to get on our nerves, as we can hear it from anywhere in our house. We don't notice it in the week as much as we're at home less in the day. However on a weekend, it seems to happen most of the time. It barked constantly for over 12 hours yesterday in the daytime, and then on the night (as normal). It kicked off again today, as soon as they went out. We've already had several discussions with them, as they had some dodgy workmen living there for 2 months who partied till 4 in the morning and did loud work till 10-11pm on a night (regardless of the fact they had agreed to stop by 8pm as our toddler is in bed by 7-8am). We largely put up with the builders as everyone needs to get work done from time to time, and we wanted to have a good relationship with them going forward. However, I don't really feel that our consideration is reciprocated at the moment. I therefore want to find out if we have any rights before discussing the problem with them. Please can anyone tell me if they have had experience of this themselves, and what our rights are? I've done some internet seaches, but the policies all seem a bit wishy washy or only apply to council tenants. Cheers Tigs
  11. Good point Diva, I'll do that. Upinwath, I think that your self definition is spot on, there was no need to be rude.
  12. And use up their allegedly non-existant spare resource on admin? I'd be much happier if they could use the time instead to monitor any anti-social behaviour!
  13. We were never given an option to be witnesses! Plus we even found the smashed up tool that they used, and notified the police (assuming there might be prints on it), who never bothered picking it up from us!!
  14. Hi I've been reading some of the recent entries on unchallenged anti-social behaviour around Sheffield, and it reminded me of an incident a few weeks ago which we reported to the police...pointlessly. We spotted some pretend 'gangsters' smashing up a car one evening and phoned the police...Who turned up a bit later and informed the owners, who are friends of ours, as it happened. Whilst the owner and the police were inspecting the car, the same kids came back to the scene (we were speaking to the aforementioned friends) and were asking what had happened, loitering to check out the situation. I spoke to one of the officers, to point out that the yobs were speaking to the officer outside......He eventually went outside....had a quick chat with one of the kids....and did absolutely nothing. The kids eventually got bored of winding up the owner and departed, scott-free! What kind of society do we live in? We clearly witnessed these youths trashing the car and could identify them....so why did the police do bugger all? Tigs
  15. I remember quite a few on the Crookes main street....Can't think of anywhere more central though. Tigs
