  1. It is now a test failure to have an operational fault on an air bag warning light. This came in last year and my car failed on it.This after passing for the three previous years with the same fault and being tested at the same garage by the same tester. It is not a failure if the engine management light stays on.
  2. It should be the other way round, motorists using dash cameras to photograph the irresponsible actions of cyclists.0f course this would be completely useless because cyclists are not traceable are they?
  3. This is true and it costs them all of a fiver.I rang trading standards about this as I thought it was illegal for a dealer to sell a car without doing these checks, but apparantly it isn't.Trading standards said any sensible dealer would automatically do the checks and if I really wanted one of their cars I should make sure I got a print out of the checks and attempt to get it for free.Needless to say I went elsewhere.
  4. Don't forget Openreach,Plusnet and BT are one company, all owned by BT,so don't expect good service as BT are well known for poor service. In fact both BT and Openreach have been investigated by Watchdog who found it was impossible for a member of the public to contact Openreach directly.Openreach refused to come on the program and offer an explanation.
  5. Since I bought my first laptop I have only had two providers,02 and at present Sky.When I set up my 02 I had to use a disc and this was pretty difficult whereas setting up Sky was really simple.I am now thinking of changing my provider but I now only use a tablet which does not take a disc.I would be most grateful if Forum readers could advise me if all providers routers can be set up easily and without a disc. THANKS.
  6. Not healthy if the're fried in dripping or Trans Fats.
  7. Recent reports reckon the Medics are saying chocolate is good for us,it apparently helps prevent heart attacks and strokes. One newspaper said the equivalent of two Mars Bars a day was about the right amount. So should we all go out and buy tons of chocolate and start stuffing ourselves? Can't wait until the Medics announce Fish and Chips are as healthy as this.
  8. A non working rear wiper can be a fail,if it's fitted it has to be working.Just remove the wiper arm and blade,a rear wiper is not required by law.
  9. Don't buy from any of them, you'll do much better buying private. If you aren't mechanically minded the RAC or AA will do a vehicle inspection, they can also do a finance and indemnity check. If you want a warranty you can also buy this privately and if you need finance, arrange your own, search around. At the end of the day you will be quids in.
  10. Yes these are the ones. ---------- Post added 02-06-2015 at 21:38 ---------- I think i saw this quote on the direct line site.As I say,ask at the Post Office, they do not electronically test for insurance only the test.
  11. Thanks Cyclone that is the correct page. The continuous check is of course with the database. No insurance checks are now made when taxing a car.The doubters have only to go and ask at the post office.
  12. C.I.E only applies if the vehicle is parked on the road, then it must also be taxed. If S.O.R.N is declared the vehicle does not have to have tax or insurance, however it must not be used or parked on the road. ---------- Post added 02-06-2015 at 20:18 ---------- Hi Geared.Having just checked on the web I now appreciate your reluctance to believe my claim that cars don't have to be insured in order to get tax. However I have come across a PDF which explains it.Unfortunately not being much good with a computer I don't know how to provide a click on link.If you go on to www.GOV.UK,then type"Remove the insurance check when taxing a vehicle"into the search box at the top, then scroll down to this heading, all the information is given there.
  13. GEARED and PETE MORRIS.You are both wrong. If you have the V5C,the green part of the V5C or the renewal slip, the car can be taxed without any insurance whatsoever. It can be done on line or at the post office. The post office does not check if it is insured in these circumstances. The test is however checked in these circumstances.I queried this with the DVLA.Apparently this ruling was brought in almost a year ago because they know of the delay in receiving insurance documents and also the delay of updating the database. It was also to do with the immediate cancellation of tax on sale of the car. Please check with the DVLA or GOV.UK before slagging me off any more(Geared)
  14. Geared. Yet again you have got your facts wrong.A car does not have to be insured in order to tax it.It has been like this for about a year now.Check this out on Gov Uk.I assume your next post will be an apology.
  15. As I said in my post if you can't prove you are insured your car will be impounded. If you are stopped at 10o'clock at night and the police cannot contact your insurance company they will accept the evidence of the database.
  16. Sorry Geared you've got things wrong yet again.Whilst your comments do apply to road tax, rest assured if your insurance company hasn't put your car details on the database, and you can't prove to the police you are insured, your car will be impounded.Ringing the DVLA will not help. This effectively means that in most cases if you are stopped after 6pm or on a Sunday, you will not be able to contact your insurance company to prove you are insured.(I know some companies open longer hours)Similar contact hours will be available for the DVLA so the same thing applies. The sensible thing to do is to tax the car at a post office and carry your receipt, also carry your insurance certificate. However if you have just changed your vehicle it can take a couple of weeks for the documents to arrive, and this is what causes the problems.
  17. I have always failed to see why the government, the DVLA and the police have the right to use automatic number plate recognition cameras and stop drivers whose vehicles appear to have no tax, test or insurance when the databases are nowhere near accurate.Whenever I have changed insurance companies it has taken anything up to 2 weeks for the car to re appear on the database.I recently taxed a vehicle and it took 6 days for it to appear on the database. If I had been stopped in these circumstances my vehicle would have been impounded even though I was fully legal. This is happening time and time again but drivers do not seem to get any compensation for their inconvenience or their losses. Both the DVLA and the insurance companies can take my money in 10 seconds flat, why can't they update the databases in the same time.It really is time the motorist got a fair deal and those concerned were made to put their house in order.
  18. There was an article in The Star some time ago where a woman working in a chemists shop refused to sell contraceptives to a woman she knew was not married. She said it was against her religion to do this.I thought she should have been sacked but apparently she was deemed to be within her rights.
  19. I remember we all used to listen to a program called Childrens Favourites every saturday morning. This was a program for kids to send in requests to hear their favourite records. It would have been in the late 40s/early 50s.
  20. I remember bunny well.He lived at the bottom of Vaughn Hill at Deepcar,I think it's called Mill Lane.I think his limp was from polio.I hadn't seen him for years and I saw him crossing the main road at Deepcar about a month ago.
  21. Yes I remember all of these people. What about the lasses?Little Joan, big Joan(Langston),Janice,Caroline,Rita,Carol.all of these used to go on the back of the bikes.
  22. Don't forget it can take the Database several days to update, this also applies to the Tax and Test.Because of this stupidity umpteen drivers wrongly have their vehicles impounded.
  23. Then you spend months trying to get your cash back.
  24. It will stay empty if they don't reduce their ridiculous sky high prices.
  25. Why not do what a couple of million other people are doing.Just sign off and do a bit of Hi Diddle Diddle.
