  1. Why do the government and the police not pursue drivers using mobile phones and other similar devices with the same vigor as they do speeders? These are the really dangerous drivers but little is done to catch them.
  2. I read an article in one of the Nationals on Tuesday saying Parking Eye had taken a motorist to court because he wouldn't pay an £85 charge for overstaying 17 minutes in a supermarket car park. His argument was that this charge was disproportionate to the alleged offence. The judge ruled in Parking Eyes favor. The motorist then appealed,at his own expense, to the high court. This judge also ruled in Parking Eyes favor. They now say this ruling says their charges have now been proved to be fair.On the other hand the motoring organisations say they were hoping the case would be thrown out as this will now give unscrupulous parking companies an open licence to rip people off even more.It really is time a government stepped in and introduced some fair rules and stopped these robbers fleecing motorists.
  3. I am sick to death of the cyclists I encounter every Sunday out Derbyshire. The majority of these are drivers because I see them taking their bikes on the top of their cars, parking up,usually around Hope, then setting off and causing chaos. Most of them seem to have cameras mounted on the bike or on their helmets thus hoping to catch a motorist who makes a mistake.Even if a motorist had a camera the cyclist is untraceable therefore they do just what they want.It really is time cyclists had to display some type of identification plate so they can be identified and prosecuted.Every Sunday I see them in groups wobbling all over the place, turning without giving any signals, overtaking on the inside, and last Sunday there was sixteen of them riding two abreast and eight deep, the mind boggles at their stupid antics. There is also disorganized road races with no police presence and men in little yellow coats attempting to stop traffic in order to let the cyclists through. They have no legal right to do this.I am amazed these cyclists actually survive the day,it is only because of the skill of the car drivers.
  4. Yes I remember John Duce, his father ran the chippy but it was still under the name of Bottomleys.Barry Betts used to live in the Round House.Bobby Clarkes dad ran the wet fish shop. There was also Siddalls chemists,Wagners barbers and Eric Smiths butchers. This was between 1946 and 1951. ---------- Post added 23-04-2015 at 17:11 ---------- Yep I went to St Marys between 1947 and 1951 and then went to High Storrs
  5. Last week I just wanted to ask Sky a simple question concerning my account so I decided to E.mail them, only to find they have removed this service. So I tried to use facebook and found this service had also been removed.Next plan of action was their live chat but I have not been able to get on this at all during the week.I have also had four attempts to ring them but each time I have put the phone dawn when nobody has answered after fifteen minutes. If I now decide to cancel and they don't answer the phone so I cancel my direct debit I bet they are quick to contact me with a penalty charge. This company is just not worth bothering with.
  6. Cant tell a word the actors are mumbling and can't follow the storyline, best turned off.
  7. Blood Pressure is not a constant, anybody who is worried should buy their own monitor, but not a wrist one as these are not very accurate.Sit or lay down for 10 minutes before taking your pressure,if you think it is high take it again after 3 minutes and then again after another 3 minutes. You may well be amazed at the difference in readings.A good reading is 120/80,however up to 138/88 is still not excessively high.Take readings 2 or 3 times a day for 2 or 3 weeks preferably at about the same times and you will get a good idea of how your pressure fluctuates. The once only check at the doctors does not give a proper analysis as you may well be worried and this will raise your pressure.Don't forget it's not so many years ago that acceptable pressures were 100 plus your age for the high one and 85 plus 1 for every 10 years of your age for the lower one.
  8. Just avoid it.There should be no parking at all on this road whatever the residents might think.
  9. The government is bragging it has achieved the near impossible with inflation at zero per cent. This has made people think nothing is going up in price, nothing could be further from the truth.Price increases this month are house rents, council tax, water bills, stamps, car tax,sky prices, petrol prices and I have no doubt there are many more.Whilst food prices appear to be stable just take a look at some of the pack sizes, these are getting smaller and smaller whilst the price remains the same.Packs of bacon, cooked meats, biscuits, cereals,in fact almost everything sheds a few grams, tins and bottled products just the same.Even toilet rolls lose a yard.Chocolate manufacturers seem to be the best at this size reduction scam.We are all being ripped off by manufacturers who are making millions and the government has the cheek to turn it into something of an achievement for themselves.
  10. Keep well clear of anything manufactured by this company. Beko also market under the Flavel and Leisure brands, these should also be avoided.
  11. Both Bakewell and Hope should have started Easter Sunday, however Hope was rained off but Bakewell went ahead.
  12. Sky are completely useless. In the last week I have had three attempts to phone them and each time I have put the phone down after 15 minutes because nobody has answered.I have also had several unsuccessful attempts to use their live chat service,it came up"service busy, try again later"at every attempt. Finally,in their wisdom,Sky have done away with their E.Mail contact service.
  13. Have just been up Halifax Rd past the new Sainsburys. The new tarmac is already wearing and the old road showing through.More traffic chaos to come whilst the road gets repaired.
  14. After last years fiasco the runners said they would not participate in another run,but here we go again with another day of chaos. Why on earth cant they keep to their word?
  15. It is £200 per household irrespective of how many are living there.
  16. I have just driven over Crookes main road and it appears new street lamps are being erected.Does this mean Sheffield Council have for once considered motorists and are installing better lamps so that motorists can see the potholes better in the dark?
  17. Before spending any money always check the valve clearances on a diesel engine that is hard to start.Sometimes "valve seat recession"can take place. This in effect allows a valve to sink slightly into the cylinder head, this in turn lessens the valve clearances and can eventually lead to a valve remaining slightly open. This will usually happen to all the exhaust valves.once this happens the compression is reduced and the engine is hard to start.A pushrod engine will have tappet adjusters but most engines are overhead cam and clearances are usually altered by shims. If this has happened it would need a cylinder head overhaul.Providing you have clearances on all valves things are okay.Next step take out all the injectors.Reconnect them to the injector pipes but face them upwards. Then spin the engine over and watch how the injectors inject(don't get your face close to them). The fuel should atomize, that is spray minute particles which spread out and you should hear a noise from each injector each time it sprays, the noise is called Injector Creak. If the fuel just shoots out in a straight line or dribbles out the injector is faulty. You will usually find more than one is faulty, don't attempt to do anything with these yourself, take them for reconditioning or exchange. It's always best to take the lot.Whilst the injectors are out you could also do a compression test on the engine,a tester can usually be hired. If everything up to here is okay you can then check the glow plugs. It will most probably be the injectors but if you change them also change the fuel filter as it is often not changing the filter that causes these problems. ---------- Post added 29-03-2015 at 11:27 ----------
  18. This is true, so is the fact that 95% of car accidents are caused by"spuds" because the majority of drivers eat spuds.
  19. Air quality in Sheffield is getting worse thanks to the increasing use of wood burners. We will soon be back to the smogs of the 1940s if this is not stopped.
  20. I very rarely listen to the radio but the other day when I was attempting to repair my car radio/cassette it suddenly burst into life on a program all about the unemployment situation,it was a real eye opener. There were people on who had been unfairly sanctioned and a couple of whistle blowers from the dole.I was amazed to hear they had to meet a quota of sanctions to keep the unemployment figures down, but the one thing that really sickened me was they were told to print letters telling claimants to come for an interview but not send the letters and then sanction the claimant.I don't know what wavelength the program was on or whether it has been continued or repeated, but it really showed how evil this government is.
  21. I used to go in this joke shop as we called it around 1949/1950.I think they called it Blewitts.I seem to remember it was just a little counter inside the doorway, the owner used to show us all the tricks.
  22. Who decides which is right or wrong, everybody has different opinions. ---------- Post added 16-03-2015 at 15:52 ---------- Totally agree.
  23. The other day David Cameron was on the television saying in a democratic country like Britain everybody was entitled to free speech.Who,s he trying to kid,if people said exactly what they thought most of them would be jailed?
  24. Smoking does not lower blood pressure,it increases it.In fact stopping smoking is one of the first things a doctor will recommend when trying to lower blood pressure.
  25. You should be really happy with these readings, they are not low enough to read treatment.Low blood pressure needing treatment is about half these readings. ---------- Post added 13-03-2015 at 17:56 ---------- The 120 is great, the other needs to be below 90,preferably in the low 80s.
