My First Beat in Sheffield on Nights.
Carmen. replied to PCPLOD178's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
I remember an occasion. ---------- Post added 28-06-2014 at 17:30 ---------- I was only in my teens and a very sick young woman Awaiting the call to go into hospital to have the tumour, that was pressing on my brain, removed. It was late night and I was waiting for a tram on Blonk Street. I felt a seizure coming on and panicked. I looked across to where there was an island in the road, and where the ''bobby'' stood on duty. I ran across to him and in a rather garbled manner I tried to explain that I had a Grande Mal seizure coming on and would he help me.? Poor man,I can think of it like that now. He told me not to be silly and bundled me on a tram. On Blonk St. The tram conductor was kind, helped me upstairs and gave me a cigarette. People are more educated now and it would, hopefully, never happen again. So nice to be reminded of the different areas of Sheffield. Most I know. Thank you. ---------- Post added 28-06-2014 at 17:40 ---------- Sorry about the potted personal history. I wished to put in my ''twopenorth'' and could only think of Blonk St, and it was also the only place of which I could reminisce. ---------- Post added 28-06-2014 at 17:54 ---------- OH! The roller skating place on Attercliffe Rd. I met my husband there. -

So pleased this advice is getting an airing. I am a vegetarian and know the benefits of fruit in general. I must admit though , I didn't know there was SO MUCH benefit from eating apples. Cheers.

Shopping online vs high-street?
Carmen. replied to Waldo's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
I find shopping online a godsend. My husband used to drive me to do the shopping, runs out, everywhere we needed to go. I lost him a few weeks ago. I/we have a lovely daughter but I embrace my independence. We have a wedding coming up in August and I have shopped online for my outfit. Sure, I HAVE paid to send some items back, but all in all not such a lot. One may say the money would have gone on petrol and cups of coffee. To be able to drive is an asset, one I am unable to take advantage of because of how God made me. -
Congratulations from me too.

I don't have time to read a book outright so stick to poetry. I do like the stories of James Herriot, the vet. Each chapter is a story in itself. Not too long. I'm moving home soon and not looking forward to choosing which books to take with me. Daughter loves her Kindle but give me a ''proper'' book any day. ---------- Post added 22-06-2014 at 23:15 ---------- Years ago I bought a book of short stories by Edgar Allen Poe. Gave me the willies and put it in the drawer out of sight. I felt silly letting it get to me like that but in the end it had to go in the bin. There's a writer who knew his stuff. OH! The bells, the bells. lol

Nutrition/Fitness website:Feedback needed
Carmen. replied to scott94's topic in Sheffield Business & Employment
I am afraid I don't have the time to read all the comments but I would like to say re diet. EVERYTHING IN MODERATION, and get enough exercise. A little ''treat'' now and then and I find this works for me. Plenty of water too. 'Tis true, the shakes and such are money making gimmicks. -

It takes guts to go door to door canvassing for signatures. Talks no good. Someone has to do ''the walk'' -

Sheffield Cathedral Lantern Window growing on me
Carmen. replied to hitchhiker's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
Thank you Plain Talker. Yes!! I remember now. It was St Marie's Tucked in between the row of shops on..... Norfolk Row you say? I'm not a catholic but the ambience in there suited me at that particular time. To sit in one of the pews in there now is just a dream. Thank you once again. -
Sheffield Cathedral Lantern Window growing on me
Carmen. replied to hitchhiker's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
I can't remember ever having been in Sheffield cathedral. I used to call in the little church that was down an alleyway. Can't remember the name of the alley. I know there was a shop just at the top selling religious artifax. I used to cover my hair and light a candle. I have a notion that the church in the alleyway became redundant when the Cathedral was built. When I say redundant , I mean it was classed as a cathedral until the large cathedral was built. I do wish I could remember the name of the alley. O! Was it Change alley? -

Are we discussing Page Hall? I'm sure that's where the Sunbeam picture house was. I lived in Handsworth and only ventured there because I had made a date. It was alien country to me but worth the trip. I married ''my date'' and a lovely man he was . My love.
