  1. Blood glucose meters and strips are available for people with diabetes who are on diabetes medication that can cause a hypo.( low blood glucose) That is insulin and gliclazide tablets. This is in part because it is illegal to drive without testing your blood glucose before you drive if you are on either of these treatments. GPs and the hospital diabetes centres can provide the meters and the strips come on on prescription. Due to the crazy cost of the strips for these meters, for other people with diabetes, meters and strips aren't provided. For some that suits them, for others it can seem like withholding a really useful tool for motivating, educating and monitoring. Nothing has really changed on this for a long time so not sure why you are experiencing problems.
  2. We have been recently told Forge Valley pupils will be getting a new uniform as part of a relaunch of the school. I am interested to know what other parents think. We were originally consulted but I don't get a sense that our comments from earlier in the year are now being taken into account. On two occasions we have been told by the school that pupils/ parents have expressed an interest in blazers. Yet no one I have spoken to wants one. I am really interested to know if my friends and their children are in the minority. Do people want blazers? What do you think?
  3. Have you looked into Hallamshire Harriers. They train from hillsborough arena car park on tues and thurs. i think its 6pm. Not sure about their sessions in different parts of the city. I havent got contact details but can get from a friend if you are interested.
  4. hi Kath Sheffield is a great place to go swimming as there is so much choice. Where abouts in the city would it be handy for you?
  5. Dont need to put up with freezing , grotty changing rooms at ponds forge if you are a SIV member. It took me a while to realise you could use the members changing rooms which is lovely and has underfloor heating.
  6. I am in a similar position. I done a few tris and can swim crawl but could always do with getting faster. most people would say join a tri club as you will get coaching there. i recently heard about another sheffield tri club black knights - I read they do wed night swim lessons at ponds forge for helping improve crawl. I did email the contact but no-one replied. Good Luck. let me know if you find anything.
  7. Yes i like swimming alone sometimes. Theres still other swimmers around to chat to if you want to. To keep my interest, motivation and make it worthwhile in terms of keeping fit I use swim programs such as Swim fit swimming.org/swimfit or get programmes out of magazines. Also i go to swimfit sessions at concord or hillsborough. The instructors are friendly and it can be quite socialable.
