Instore Shopping/Supermarkets During Coronavirus
catmiss replied to Brooker11's topic in General Discussions
āPanic buyingā and āstocking upā is not only governed by income but also by housing- people living in overcrowded households or one bedroomed flats etc have limited storage space. In addition those on low incomes are less likely to have access to cars to carry bulk buys home -
Royal Mail Collecting Parcels From Your Door.

Post office considering stopping Saturday mail deliveries for cost cutting reasons. Incidentally their rates for parcels are higher than others and 72p collection fee higher too- Hermes charges 50p -

If you were scowling or frowning (commonly as my teenage self) my dad would say āwhatās up with thee, if wind changes thaāll stay like that and weāll be stuck āwi thee forever ā -

If you asked what was for tea both my mum and my gran used to say āa run round āt table and a kick at cellar door ā. If she asked you to butter bread my gran used to say āand don be leaving owt so as we don grease us fingersā-in other words butter to the edges. -
And, after years of the government urging us to save, banks are now considering charging savers to keep their money for them to use. They lag behind fraudster techniques, take their time reacting to scams rather than being proactive. Wish Iād got an old fashioned mattress to stuff my savings into ā¹ļø

What is amazing is that all the MPs Iāve heard, even hard line Tories citing increased Universal Credit/Local Council payments in mitigation, accept that in 2020 British children are going hungry. What have they been doing for the last few years to let things get to this?

I pay 50p extra for them to collect parcels on a specific day from my home and theyāve never let me down, receipt of collection and parcel tracking has also been good

If youāre so upset ring the service management, you might be surprised to learn that emergency treatment is not dependent on the inconvenience caused to others. Presumably your ability to drive or wait 2 hours did not qualify you for life saving action so why not contact the clinic to inform them of the delay, request transportation, walk or sensibly rearrange appointment. Sometimes we have to accept that our needs are secondary to others

We have all seen how Trump regularly sacks those who āupsetā him but being so reckless in his super spreading seems a bit extreme even for him. No doubt the Super Man president who didnāt let the virus control him will label those less fortunate ālosersā

Are We Heading For A Recession Like In The 30s?
catmiss replied to El Cid's topic in General Discussions
The last recession seemed to be felt most keenly by the north of the country, possibly exacerbating the effects of the loss of traditional industries during Mrs Thatcherās reign and not adequately addressed by Tony Blairās government. I wonder if all the Tory MPs elected last time by disillusioned northerners will fight their corner in Borisā government -
Iām no Trump or Boris fan but they are individuals who, despite their office, have contracted the same virus that most of us are trying to avoid

Social landlordsā tenancy agreements usually only allow entry by invitation or pre determined H&S conditions. Social landlords periodically carry out stock condition surveys to inform improvement programmes but tenants are pre contacted and fully informed as to the purpose. Local councils have a duty under Homeless legislation to provide advice and information to all persons presenting as homeless and to provide temporary accommodation to those meeting specific criteria whilst their case is being investigated. Sheffield Council has both their own en block and sub contracted Housing Association temporary accommodation so it doesnāt seem feasible they would be reviewing individual properties for this purpose. When you say SY social housing are you referring to SCC or Housing Associations? Any tenant should have an agreed appointment and entitlement to a full explanation for the purpose of any visit and can refuse access and make a complaint if they feel their landlord is making āan excuse ā to gain access. I think you might be barking up the wrong tree here

Iāve been more or less shielding for the last seven months so have had to do far more internet shopping than I ever did which is why I think Iām getting more scam emails/calls. Thereās always someone out there willing to take advantage

I agree but, sadly a lot of these businesses are either going out of business or reluctant to invest in new ventures given the unpredictability of the pandemic and resulting restrictions.

Been bombarded by emails (about 15 in last 24 hours) supposedly from Amazon in USA saying Iād won an I phone and just needed to pay Ā£4 postage. I expect Iād have to give card details for postage payment and then have my account ransacked

My ex lives in Nottingham, aged 63 but no underlying health conditions, contacted his GP and told all appointments allocated. Contacted various pharmacies to be told all out of stock of flu vaccine. He managed to get on the Oct/Nov waiting list at a supermarket pharmacy

Thereās obviously some issues to be investigated e.g. how the gun wasnāt found on the arrest search, how it was fired at the PO and himself when he was handcuffed behind. No doubt this will all be revealed but thank goodness we are not USA and take to the streets, protest and are fired up to take retaliatory action but instead can feel the sadness of a person killed whilst doing their job

I came down Carr Road, Walkley today, quite a narrow road where 2 cars canāt pass when others are parked on both sides and a bus service was rerouted to avoid the frequent stand offs with motorists travelling in the opposite direction. It seems that residents/visitors to the area are avoiding damage to their cars and/or confrontation with other motorists by parking completely on pavements both sides. Consequently I had to walk in the road for the top third of the street and was subjected to abuse from 3 motorists. Fortunately I could dodge out of the way of these tin can terrorists but anyone less agile, using a wheelchair/mobility scooter or pushing a pram would be in a ver vulnerable position

I had my jab last Saturday and instead of the normal turn up for a 8-10 am session and queue up like we did at school for TB jab I was allocated a half hour slot. It seemed as though about 10 people had been given the same slot, all were wearing masks, had to read a Covid symptoms disclosure before entering, queued on designated 2 metre marks supervised by surgery staff and directed to 1 of 2 PPE protected practitioners administrating the vaccine. My time at the surgery and contact with other recipients was considerably reduced and I felt very safe to receive my 28th flu vaccine. I donāt think recent restrictions will affect your vaccine appointment given the Governments extension and encouragement of the eligible cohort.
-
I stand corrected and sorry I should have made it clear that those not eligible for free NHS vaccinations would have to pay. Had my jab under social distancing regs at GP surgery on Saturday, virtually no queuing and no ill effects!

The ebullient and affable London mayor whose ambition was to become PM must wish heād stayed with his previous activities. Leading the country through a pandemic and Brexit, even with Cummings pulling his strings, is obviously beyond his skill set
