  1. We have 2 males, they were fine together for a few months and then suddenly they weren't! Now we have 2 cages!
  2. Sadly that will be your wife plus all of the staff at the Uni, the Hallamshire, the Childrens, Jessops, the Dental hospital, students, patient relatives and seemingly half of Yorkshire, looking at the availability of parking. I've worked in the area for 15 years and the only "free" parking is out of the immediate area and towards Crookes. Bit of a walk and a bit interesting when the paths are icy, but doesn't take more than 10 mins. Personal experience is that if you're not parked by 7.30 or 8am, you're very unlikely to get anything close by
  3. Thats a really nice offer! Shame you live a bit too far from me, but there must be locals who would love a bit of help with dog walking. Maybe call the local vets and see if they know of any elderly dog owners who might appreciate the help?
  4. Hi, Thanks for advice. I managed to get hold of a cat box and some food and took care of it for a while, until I got hold of the RSPCA. Got it to a vet late last night, who suspected contact with something toxic. Poor little love. I'm going to try and call later to see if he's okay. Incidentally - the RSPCA arranged for the vet at VetsNow to see it (PDSA building) and they did keep it, so they're not all bad after all! x
  5. Just now there's been a cat outside our house, and I don't know of I should do anything? Its a ginger skinny thing, smells to high heaven and seems to be quite unstable, bit staggery, back legs doddery, but v friendly. Hates dogs, growls at any that go past. I tried ringing the RSPCA, no answer. I don't have a cat basket to put it in. I have 2 dogs (including a whippet that chases cats) so can't take it in. Any ideas?? I've come in for half an hour but I will go back out in a bit and see if its still there. What should I do? My vets closed at 7, though I don't have any way of carrying it. Help!
  6. Sheffield Council gave me a huge list of childminders in Sheffield when I was looking for one, finding one that picks up from the school was a godsend. Or consider seining a letter out to other parents via school, ask if you can help someone else out in return, maybe you do the morning run and they do the afternoon? Good luck! I have worked full time since my daughter was 1 and it's not easy to find good childcare.
  7. I think you're doing blondes a disservice - it's quite rude to suggest that their hair colour means that they are thick, or that I don't know what I'm talking about either, which is quite funny, all things considering. Please go and do your research before you make yourself look silly. I know the difference between public (taxpayers) money (less than 30% of the Uni funding - did I mention that? Here - have a link if you didn't believe me the first time: https://www.shef.ac.uk/finance/staff-information/howfinanceworks/higher_education/money And do feel free to apologise for your rudeness, any time you like. It's unnecessary, you should learn to discuss things with grown ups without mud-slinging, it's unbecoming. Best wishes, Brunette (natural), MSc BSc (Hons)
  8. Paying for a service doesn't make something funded by the taxpayer! If it does, that means we also fund tesco, and BMW, and any thing that anyone ever buys. There is a huge difference between national funding and individuals paying for their education. Yes, the Higher Education Funding Council IS taxpayers money, what I'm saying is that that amount accounts for less than 30% of the Unit's income (and it's been decreasing yearly) so its hardly paid for by the taxpayer.
  9. Where did you get that impression? Less than 30% from Higher Education Funding Council, the Uni gets most of its money from tuition fees, which means attracting high numbers of very good calibre students (with a low dropout rate) which in turn means investing in the Uni to attract the best. And attract research grants and top quality staff.
  10. I've been doing 30mph past these cameras since the limit change, and the amount of other drivers who are driving 6 inches off my back bumper because THEY think it's still 40 is shocking! It's no wonder accidents happen, nobody appears to be paying any attention. I hope they all get tickets and find out why I'm doing 30mph the hard way :-)
  11. There's often a similar problem outside the Northern General, same setup with one lane turning right on red, and the straight on lane on green. You can tell who isn't a local!
  12. Actually, I know exactly what you mean! There is one thing that I look for when people walk, and once you start, its hard to stop! When they walk, and peoples arms are swinging by their sides, take a look at where their fingers end. Some peoples arms barely make it past their bums, while other people look like they could scratch the backs of their knees!! Fascinating, how everyone is put together so differently.
  13. Check whether his employer does Cyclescheme - you save a fortune on a bike. Also echo the Decathlon recommendation - you get a lot more for your money.
  14. Is this where we find out that our potholes were our only real drainage system?
  15. I've just driven up Burncross Road in Chapeltown and its crazy...how can there be so much standing water when you're driving uphill?! Impressive storm!
  16. I bought my king size from the SilentNight factory clearance website - free delivery included and it's fantastic. Brilliant prices, my king size divan with drawers and a great mattress was under £300. http://www.mattress.co.uk Hope that helps
  17. Balfour for us too. They were fantastic, even talked me into a cheaper carpet than the one I had initially liked, because it was better for my very busy living room and would last longer! Fitters were ace too.
  18. We had a wonderful day in Grenoside, also just up from the Cow and Calf (they must have made a furtune today!). We sis manage a freebie from the caravanne, a pack of poppy seeds commemorating the war lol. I will plant them though, lovely reminder of the day :-). Well done Sheffield, great turnout and a brilliant atmosphere.
  19. Thanks Bobby that's really useful to know! Will you be making a toilet available there too? We are planning our day out at the moment and want to be in Grenoside, but trying to figure out where you can use facilities is proving tricky!! Thanks B x
  20. I popped to the Costcutter on Bevan Way last night - amazed to see the amount of people who seemingly had NO idea that the road was closed! Do people drive around with their eyes closed? .
  21. Does anyone know yet - are they closing all of it every night, or just the parts they are working on? I'm also waiting to see what happens when they get to the bit outside Chapeltown Baths. There's clearly a LOT of water under the road surface, as the drain closest to the baths is full of water, level with the road surface. And on the other side of the road there is water pouring down the edge of the road. It's been there for a while now and I'm surprised Yorks Water haven't been asked to sort it out before the road was resurfaced (that's a lie, I'm not surprised at all, I expect they will come and dig it up about 2 weeks after it's been resurfaced!).
  22. For anyone really worried about this one day, please remember that paris manages to cope every year. And lots of other French towns on the Tour route. Nobody panic. x
  23. How come the nest is empty?! ---------- Post added 12-05-2014 at 14:04 ---------- Phew! Blog says they are all hiding in the corner, out of the wind.
  24. I wish they had waited until they were ready to start before destroying all the trees on the site, its looked such a mess for ages now!
