  1. Luckily I did my Masters with a 2:2. Opened up a lot of opportunities that I wouldn't have otherwise had. I messed up my 3rd year and had a point to prove! It's possible. X
  2. Sad to say that yes, a 2:2 isn't worth a great deal if that's all you have. I do shortlisting and interviewing at work and we get such a huge number of applicants for graduate roles that we do choose to ignore the lower classified degree holders. Unless you have experience and a cracking cover letter! It's not all bad news though, as having any degree often is all that matters for career progression, which is why its important to just get in on the bottom rung. The degree might not let you skip those bottom rungs but it will let you climb higher eventually. Failing that, do a Masters in something useful?
  3. Me too, temping can be great, I made loads of friends. I left there and went to Freemans to do Christmas - so many hours available, and that place had a staff shop and a swimming pool!
  4. I got put on the Home Movers team when it was Yorkshire Cable and Telewest at the same time - all very confusing and LOADS of people angry when they couldn't keep their phone number when they moved. Very good for my CV and interviews as I could cheerfully talk about communication skills and managing difficult situations!
  5. As a graduate I joined a couple of temp agencies and got loads of work. I did the usual Sheffield jobs (Norwich Union, HSBC, Freemans catalogue, Telewest etc). All call centres or admin. Got offered jobs at lots of them too. Temping gave me skills, made my CV look good, and I continued throughout my Masters degree to earn some money. Sadly you can't sit on your bum applying for jobs and expect to get anywhere. There are soooo many others out there who are actively getting whatever experience they can, they are volunteering, doing anything to stand out from the crowd, On paper, they are always going to win. Get your foot in the door by temping, or get your CV looking better by volunteering. Preferably both. Good luck!
  6. If you only saw 4 you weren't looking very hard! The main block of toilets (bottom left of field) was at least 20, and the second block (side left of field) about 15? Still not enough by a long way, but 4 is just being silly.
  7. I do like the Tu clothing, and they do great pizzas lol. Wouldn't do a weekly shop there though, we have got used to getting basics in Aldi and bits and pieces through the week from anywhere else.
  8. Thanks Andy that's really helpful. I won't be leaving the area until after all the punters, so just trying to figure out the safest, easiest option! :-). I'm sure there will be plenty of people around. but I might not have much energy left by then lol. Does a day tram ticket work if it's gone midnight..?
  9. Ah I saw that - it's fab! Doesnt show where the actual entrance is though. I need to drive and park somewhere, so knowing which dark roads I need to walk round when it finishes is useful. I can't find any information about the entrance anywhere on the Tramlines website or Facebook page. x
  10. Oh, really?! I didn't know it was there! Thanks - rethinking transport options!
  11. Does anyone know whether there are multiple entrances to the Ponderosa for Tramlines, or just one? And is it at the bottom opposite the back of Tesco, or at the top? Thanks!
  12. Blade73 - it's just you. I've bought a few things there that are not available in catalogues, most recently being a half price Olie&Nic handbag that I still use now and love! I'm sure there's probably tat in there, but I think there's good stuff to be had too, especially for usually expensive items like coats, bags and shoes.
  13. Oooh - that's really good news. After all these years it will be great to have all these units in use :-)
  14. Does anyone know what the burning smell at night in S35 is? I've smelled it on a few nights now but last night it was so accrid it woke me up. What's going on?!
  15. Me too, been going there for over 12 years, no problems, excellent treatment, friendly staff. Take my kids there now too, very good with them.
  16. Good call there TheTwirler, again! What a storm!!
  17. That's not even close to being true. That new car park will have spaces for Uni staff (to replace the ones lost from the car park that was there), the rest is for the Children's hospital and the public! ---------- Post added 19-05-2015 at 23:26 ---------- http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/efm/estatesdevelopment/projects/durhamcarpark See? Uni places replaced, 100 for the Children's, the rest for public.
  18. Mill Road in Ecclesfield is spectacularly bad, and I've just looked - it's not due to be resurfaced until 2017!
  19. Hi. My slightly timid 11 year old daughter has expressed an interest in joining a theatre group. We live in Chapeltown so north Sheffield, Rotherham, or our side of Barnsley would all be okay. Does anyone know of any? Or have experience of any? Any advice welcome! Thanks x
  20. I think it's fairly easy to see what Go4it intended - that it might be too much stress and pressure for a 10 or 11 year old to be able to deal with - and not having the skills to cope with stress can lead to mental health issues - adults have nervous breakdowns for the very same reason. There's no need to take offence where none was intended.
  21. That largely depends on your definition of "best". My daughter's primary school ranks very highly on the league tables. To achieve and maintain this, they have been coaching the kids to sit the SATs for months, since last Sept really. Extra maths, breakfast club twice a week at 8am for the class to sit past papers and work on the stuff they aren't great at, and extra Easter School 4 days in the holidays. All just for SATs. They will look ace in the league tables but I personally think it's ridiculous. I'd be more concerned about finding out the attitude to bullying, the homework schedule, the extra clubs and opportunities they offer and what current parents think. Ask around, visit a few and see how they feel. If your kids have any special educational needs then ask about that. Do they cook school meals or reheat them? Do they have before and after school childcare available? Are they oversubscribed already? Are they feeder schools for particular high schools? All of these things are things that are important to you but might not be to someone else so make your own list. good luck! B
  22. It's just taken me half an hour to get up Western Bank from the roundabout and it's all backed up quite solidly - has something happened up in Broomhill or is it just traffic/roadworks?
  23. As above, my card was used fraudulently and i was advised that my card details could have been stolen many months ago, generally the thieves wait a long time before trying to use them.
  24. I know it's been mentioned before, but seriously - how come the council haven't noticed that there are very few buses on Penistone Road?! All this work will make no difference at all!
