  1. As a regular user of all of these roads, and footpaths (I've been either a student, local resident, or Uni staff for the last 20 years) I think these changes all look quite sensible! Hopefully the removal of the daft bus gate and buses outside the Arts Tower car park will alleviate some of the traffic blockages there. And that crossing is so dangerous if you're coming off the roundabout and up towards the Uni - it's too close to the roundabout and pedestrians are a bit like lemmings! It's a yes from me :-)
  2. The landing pad for the Children's is in Weston Park and if you've ever seen them transfer a patient from there to the hospital you'd know how fast they are. Clearly you have no idea...
  3. Yep, another! First incident was a couple of months ago: http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/crime/police-investigate-shooting-in-quiet-sheffield-suburb-1-7563528
  4. The place just off the Parkway near Morrisons ha tonnes of Denby, Boundary Mills. Got some bits from the Azure range there.
  5. Weston Park has had permission for a while, I think they're trying to find the money for it. The NHS isn't awash with cash at the moment sadly! It would be a great addition.
  6. That queue of traffic is not usually people parked - it's people waiting to get into the car park (if you see what I mean. I know that they are "parked" by virtue of being stationary for so long!)). It's usually people who either have limited mobility or passengers who need assistance. They wait in a line just there for a space in the car park to become available as it's very slightly less futile than trying to find a parking space elsewhere.
  7. They pay a small fortune for their degrees, helping the Uni remain one of Sheffield's top employers.
  8. Hah! No I haven't lived there but do have the pleasure of going there for business - oh that bus from the airport into the city is SO much fun!! (for the literals amongst you , I'm kidding, it isn't). You have my sympathies!
  9. It certainly felt like it this morning, and really I think you should lighten up a little and let people just be human, and a little cross that they've sat in traffic for over an hour on Pitsmoor Road because traffic lights are out at Park Square Roundabout. For the record I've lived in several major cities and have travelled a lot. It's just a turn of phrase. When did everyone get to be so utterly miserable and unfriendly??
  10. Oh for heaven's sake grow up. Do you live your whole life being so literal? You must be an absolute joy to be around. I think you know perfectly well what was meant. If not - then actually you'll find you forgot to include wild animals in your list. Keyboard warriors
  11. Ugh. I spent almost an hour getting from the Northern General to the University. What an utter nightmare. Only in Sheffield does EVERYTHING grind to a halt when one roundabout doesnt have traffic lights. Sigh.
  12. Trust me - it's a form of self-harm - stay well away from that road ;-) Try Ecclesfield tomorrow and see if that helps :-)
  13. Wow! Was that Penistone Rd? At that time (with the above methods) I can usually do it in half an hour. x
  14. Well, it's not a whole load of fun I'm afraid! Been doing that route (several variations) for 15 years and sometimes it's just awful! I mostly do variations of: Ecclesfield (High St, avoiding traffic lights past Morrisons), Barnsley Road past Northern General, Rutland Road, Penistone Road. Sometimes this involves going more to Parson Cross and Moonshine Lane (recent bridge work on Barnsley Rd necessitated this route for a while!). Sometimes if Penistone Rd is busy I more or less go over it to Infirmary Rd to avoid the University roundabout. There's endless "shortcuts" and routes (sometimes I also turn right at the college on Barnsley Road and cut across that way towards Rutland Rd too) - all much of a muchness but always quicker than Penistone Road. Just don't tell anyone, ok? ;-)
  15. Never had any problems with the guys at Steadfast in Chapeltown - always very helpful and reliable. Last time I was there he helped me find a part on Ebay cos it was so much cheaper then he could get it for. No probs in over 15 years of going there!
  16. We went to Balfours and they were really great. I hadn't bought carpet before and the man in the shop was really helpful - even suggested a cheaper carpet because the one I liked wasn't suitable for the room I wanted it for - he wasn't just in it for the money. Fitting was fast and perfect - have had no problems and carpet still looks like new over 2 yrs later. i think someone on here recommended them to me! x
  17. It's funny - I drive to work and back (past the Uni) from a suburb of Sheffield (Chapeltown) and I have more problems trying not to run over the local kids from Ecclesfield Comp than I do the Uni students. The kids walking to school seem to cross roads with no real care and attention at all - maybe the ones that survive get to go to Uni?
  18. As others have said. it doesn't matter if you apply on the day they start accepting them or the last day, they don't look at any of them until after that, it's not first come, first served. The criteria starts with children with particular needs (SEN, foster kids etc), kids with siblings at the same school, catchment, etc etc. It's been a while since I filled the form in but I'm sure it's November-ish? You get a letter! x
  19. Chap baths will close when the new one opens, staff are being transferred across. The Chap Baths site is already listed as for sale on an estate agent site for redevelopment.
  20. Very easy on m1 and m42, or the a38 off junction 28 of the m1. The a38 goes straight to the hospital. At that time of day I'd set off at about 8. X
  21. That would work so much better, it all need to be one way. I go to Pets At Home a lot and there's always a problem getting in and out!
  22. The car park at Kilner Way, incidentally, is awful!! The entrance and exits from the main drive are too narrow, so you can't have one person driving out and one driving in, they have to wait for each other. If this place ever fills up, busy times will be a nightmare!
  23. Yep. Temping office work in the holidays, pub work in term time.
