Im sorry Crookesey but I was the Cisco Kid, "Eh Pancho"? I lived on Harborough Avenue till the sixties then moved to Gleadless Valley but we were poor,we had dripping sandwiches three times a week but could not afford the bread. I once asked My Dad if I could have an Encylcopaedia but he told me I had to walk to School like all my Sisters did.
On the last 92 bus from pond st to the manor on a Saturday night one bloke around fifty years old always sang Rawhide thankfully he only stayed on the bus until we reached the Wybourn. But he was harmless.
The Elephant Norfolk St/ Fitzallen Square, in the sixties, they had all the top twenty records of the time plus because a lot of Irish went in quite a few Irish songs too.
The Boilers Rest was its nickname, a large boiler was being pulled by some horses in 1896 but it broke loose, ran down the road and hit a public house hence the Boilers Rest the real name of the pub was The Sportsmans Inn and it was at No 83 Well Rd Heeley
No its not expensive, a pound or two. In fact if you contact LATHCO on Boston St ( bottom of Bramall Lane) they may give you some, they should use it for their silver plating process.
Every day for thirty years I always tendered the correct fare on the bus, I could never believe the amount of people in the sixteen to twenty five year bracket bringing out a ten pound note in the early morning when common sense tells you drivers do not carry a float anymore, if they did they would need at least a hundred pound. I can sympathise with drivers day after day dealing with the same morons.
Its beyond me as to why they have to spoil everbody elses day by playing loud music from their homes whilst sitting over thirty yards away from the source.
