  1. Not everyone trusts banks for many various reasons . IV been though an time when I didn't have an bank account did life become impossible - no , bills got paid without out issue and purchases had an plus point I could negotiate an price.
  2. Read about that online opens the door about referendums on other Scottish islands futures. The EU referendum has helped the SNP in their battle for independence an conflict of interests has moved the debate to another level.
  3. Trump is an lose cannon says one thing then another I doubt Mr Trump going to lose much sleep over Brexit it's not his problem after all. I'm looking forward to see how he performes in office it's going to be fun to watch.
  4. Meet your man of your dreams on Sheffield's infamous forum more chance of meeting the Queen.
  5. In my local rag ' Derbyshire Times' someone sent in a letter the sender thought that in time the United Kingdom will slowly break up with North and South going their own way and London ending up like an city state. They based this idea that EU referendum showed how diveded the nation has become and the fact Westminster seems more interested in the South and leaves the North on the back burner. Another point rasied was the fact that more of our MPs come from wealthy backgrounds who's only interest is making them more wealthy and acting like mini Czars ( nothing new their) . Personally I think the UK will break up in time perhaps York could become the Norths capital.
  6. Deacon House was for sale but has been sold . The building itself is in a poor state of repair the ground floor is flooded plus vandalism has taken its toll over the years it will cost a lot to sort out could be cheaper to flatten it.
  7. When IV been to London I use YHA hostels the one at St.Pauls is housed in an historic building it was clean and the breakfast was ok the hostel even has a few single rooms IV stayed in one it was ok. The other hostel again YHA was at Kings Cross no single rooms but if you go with your family you could share the room usually has bunk beds. The railway station is not far away I go by rail also buy an Oyster card so you can use the buses and underground. For meals out pubs are a good bet or fancy a change head to China Town meals are not bad priced.
  8. A while back in Chesterfield a few local councillors were promoting the idea of SCR idea to the locals pushing the fact that if Chesterfield joined the town would get more money for development . But when pushed for more details on this social care wouldn't get any more nor other services that need an cash boost. The local rag did an poll 90% said no to any merger the North East Derbyshire council strongly oppose the idea another point on this was given the scale of changes put forward the locals haven't been given an chance to vote on this hence why so many are against it.
  9. One of the reasons why George Micheal didn't come out earlier was fear. Remember when Wham was in the charts the AIDs crisis was in full flow gay people were blamed for the disease that seemed unstoppable the media and TV ads of the time were full of stories of horror not really a great time to say ' by the way I'm gay' the media would have gone into over drive that would have ended George's career. Aside this factor coming out is an personal journey fear of rejection from family and friends on finding out the truth been an superstar who's life watched by the media undoubtedly made things even harder for him. The paradox of George Micheal is he gave hints in is ' Older' album of 1997 songs like ' Fastlove' a song about one night stands cruising into the dark for fastlove the album hints of an gay man feeling trapped but one song ends with the lyrics ' I'm free' that suggest he's come to terms with his sexuality.
  10. I think George Micheal was an private person I sure he did more that will over time come out. I knew he once helped out at an London homeless refuge an pass a by snapped an photo of him while he was emptying some boxes.
  11. They always say history repeats itself just different players this time.
  12. Were I live Tesco shops have seating along the windows not in aisles the only shop I know of has seating between shelving is Windsor shoe shop. In some shops it not practical to place seating every so often due to units size. Shopping malls have seating in their public areas plus under cover like Meadowhall. Some shops do have scooters or wheelchairs to loan for store use .
  13. Theirs a reason why the church spire is bent its shame over the fact the town has no virgins.
  14. Well keep your train set then , we don't want the men folk of Sheffield stealing our fair women of Chesterfield be gone I say begone. ---------- Post added 29-12-2016 at 14:21 ---------- Simply answer , NO.
  15. I think his solo work was his best granted the odd Wham track was OK. George Michael was one of many who have done cover songs Madonna did it with American Pie just how the pop world works. For me his best solo songs were : Fast love , the shallowness of one night stands was the theme. Outside, the cheekiness of it given what happened in 1998. Star People , about famous people who only desire is for money. Flawless, a little masterpiece the remix was top class. Older album, an matured crafted album targeted at the older fan. All written by George Michael .
  16. I'm no supporter of the Royals by any means but would still vote to keep an monarchy simply based on I wouldn't like to see an President May or any other party leader holding head of state powers. I agree though the monarch could do with an update and made smaller less of the hangers on gang.
  17. No its Ian Rotherham's book. Peter Tuffrey book been out for a while now not an bad book though.
  18. Yes Farfield Inn is the pubs name never been called Fairfield it was once renamed the ' Owl' for a time then went back to been the Farfield. The pub did trade as an bed and breakfast for trades men. ---------- Post added 26-12-2016 at 22:00 ---------- No doubt an issue if the pub did reopen it would have to do something that would draw in custom perhaps going back to an B&B aimed at labours working in Sheffield together with an real ale outlet?
  19. Thinking about reopening it? Been closed since 2007 after been damaged in the flood nice building.
  20. Ian Rotherham has written a new book about past and present pubs dotted around the city theirs quite a few out already I seen to remember a guy on here was toying with idea about writing a pub history book. Has anyone brought this book which is simply named ' Sheffield Pubs'?
  21. A brilliant singer and songwriter his music enjoyed by millions taken away at such an young age. RIP
  22. As someone who used to go to the Sidney Street ' Niche' it was great in its day aside of the problems it had things have moved on from Baseline. I'm amazed that Baxendale risking his money on this given economic climate Niche was last open in 2010 at its Charter Square home it didn't last that long before the problems that beset Sidney Street came back to roost. I don't think it will work again best left in the past.
  23. Someone brought the former Cannon pub on Castle Street to turn it into an gaming arcade but changed their mind . Their's a few in that area but something more central might be an better bet.
