  1. Thanks for the replies like the photo showing everyone running after the tram something's don't change!
  2. Not sure if this what you are looking for?, but Niche nightclub was a spin off rave later Bassline came in. I used go to Sidney Street one in the late 1990s untill it closed in 2005. I know there was outdoor raves down Attercliffe way odd times.
  3. Often wounded if the now derelict Meadowshead toilet block was were the trams turned round to go back to the city centre and block was built for drivers and public to use and a stop near by. The area I'm on about is were a petrol station now stands and the large roundabout?
  4. IM trying to purchase a couple of history books by John Darwell, one is called ' Things Seen While Wandering Around Attercliffe ' the other Some Building Remains Of Don Valley. Both are photo books taken in the East End of Sheffield in the 1980s. I think the Attercliffe book came out last year the other possibly before it. Would appreciate any help with this. Thanks.
  5. I think Jordan did the right thing , if you think that ISIS are willing to talk think again they believe everything they do is right . I'm afraid that's how it is with them.
  6. After a bad fall on the Moor (Iv got bad mobility ) and ending up with deep cuts to my hands was taken to A&E at Northern General and was asked about lifestyle like diet and how much I drank (no I was not drunk at the time of my fall) I mentioned I like to drink whisky now and again . The doctor told me I would be better off giving up Whisky for real ale she also mentioned drinks called Bomb's a mix of spirits I think, and said more young people were drinking that and liver disease is on the up as a result of it.
  7. Hitler used the Jews as someone to blame for the Weimars Republics problems . But sadly this prejudice didn't die in the ruins of Berlin in 1945 and still with us today and is on the rise again is history about to repeat itself?
  8. As someone who does a lot of photography (mostly Urban Exploring so seldom anyone in them let alone children) if its in a public place any children about I either wait for them to leave or find another spot to take my photo with all the media hype over child abuse don't fancy anyone accusing me of something its a sad state of affairs. I do understand the OPs concern though it might have been better to have asked first than just pointing the camera at his child and a explained why he wanted that shot.
  9. Is drinking spirits like Whisky, Brandy , Gin, Rum more harmful than drinking say a real ale ?
  10. If there was a chance of reopening the mines I would be open armed about it trust me. But the need for coal has gone down a lot since the mines closed plus many of the old mines would be in a right state after all this time I was once talking to a ex coal miner even he doubted the mines would still be open.
  11. Question: Do people still want markets ? The one in Chesterfield in its day was busy and large now its been reduced to a few stalls only on Thursday's Flea market a bit busier even that's thining a combination of prices and rent .
  12. We have at present a government who thinks nothing of its people its all about saving money at any price even if it causes hardship or death. It was heart breaking to read a man who served his country to die in such a fashion we don't know if he had family to turn to and its easy to say he should have done this or that. Remember he was willing to serve for Queen and country to protect you and I . The whole sanction system for ESA or JSA is unfair and abused by the Cameron's government this year we have a chance for a change in our political system do you want a fair government or a oppressive one ?
  13. Sheffield could quite easily rival Leeds and Manchester if given the chance. Sheffield has a lot of history and the buildings in the Cambridge Street area reflect that by all means get rid of the eyesores but other buildings like the Cutlers pub are worth saving and could be found a new use than be replaced by a shopping complex that has no historical connection to the city. There's a chance here to do something different and retain part of the cities identity.
  14. This a difficult one and been there myself for him to come to terms with his drinking you must find the root cause of this desire to get drunk. He needs to be under the care of your GP and needs tests for his liver function to assess the damage. Things look bleak now but in time it will get better if given the right help. Its all well and good for people to dam someone for turning to drink for comfort but it can happen to anyone anything can trigger it for example a relationship breakdown, or in my case a death of a child . Whatever happens I hope it gets sorted out
  15. Perhaps a way forward might be retaining the best buildings in the area and replacing buildings that are not structurally sound with designs more in keeping with the environment. Chesterfield has restored quite a few of its older buildings and has street furniture that's in keeping with the environment and a newish shopping complex that blends into the townscape. I have been around that area many times it has the potential for such a project than demolishing most of the area with a any where shopping complex and would cost less and give Sheffield something different from what Manchester and Leeds has.
  16. Used to go down Attercliffe over ten years ago to its pubs and clubs. Been invited to a 'do' down there is it ok at night now the reason I ask is I'm disabled and there for a easy target for any would be mugger thanks?

  20. I know the Arbourthorne Hotel is due for demolition if its not already gone I would like to photo it if still standing what's the best way to get to the pub from Pond Street bus station? Anyone know what's planned for the Elm Tree , Manor Top I'm guessing it will go the same way as the Arbourthorne? Thanks.
  21. Iv watched this Forum over the years finding it useful especially the history section and information about your city. Iv known Sheffield since a child and lived at Park Hill Flats for a time experienced its nightlife and found the people to be ok . I'm not really a city person by any means but Iv took to Sheffield and prefer it over Manchester anyday yes its got its bad points so does any town or city but what it lacks it makes up in different ways but how do born and bred Sheffielders see there city?
  22. Do they cover lost gay venues in Sheffield that in its self would be interesting, Sheffield over the years has seen many pubs and clubs come and go would be nice to see peoples memories and photos.
  23. Too young to have visited this fine theatre but what Iv seen in photos it really was grand such a same it was demolished. There is or was a book on the Empire telling its story well worth a read.
  24. Trust a politician might as well trust a banker.
