dvp82
What a wonderful send off, money well spent.
Oh Carol
Was it 10mill+ of public money well spent then, in your opinion?£10 million is a drop in the ocean at the side of over £10 billion that has been wasted of public money.Sadly I'm sure the Socialist Republicans of South Yorkshire will think 10 bob is too much on the funeral, thankfully the vast majority of the British public would not agree. Mister M
Was it 10mill+ of public money well spent then, in your opinion? Indeed - it's fitting that on the day of her funeral records show a 70,000 rise in the number of people registered as unemployed. Good day to bury bad news. harvey19
Was it 10mill+ of public money well spent then, in your opinion? Where has the figure of £10m come from ? Many of those there in an official capacity would have been getting paid for working anyhow.
Mr Bloom
Where has the figure of £10m come from ? Many of those there in an official capacity would have been getting paid for working anyhow. That is the figure that has been used by BBC and Sky and most news sources. I suspect the actual figure will be much more. Who do you include in the 'people who would have been getting paid for working anyhow'?
Oldtrout
just come back from the party at goldthorpe brilliant day out shegot a good send of ha ha How fortunate that you all had the time to party, and give Maggie a memorable send off ... and, if the 'celebrations' are continuing, it must be costing those involved a fair amount of money. Hope they all take plenty of pics on their iphones before they leave the pub, collect a takeaway, before going home to watch Sky on tv. What a wonderful life!! Who do you include in the 'people who would have been getting paid for working anyhow'? I think when these figures are quoted they take into account the wages of those involved. I find this annoying as it inflates the impression of the cost of the event as many would have been working and getting paid anyhow. The army do not get paid overtime, I wouldn't expect the clergy to. Some of the police were most probably being paid overtime. I don't think St Pauls will have charged for the event or the choir but will have probably had the expense of employing people to arrange seating. There will obviously been other charges(searches of the area etc before the event) but £10m seems a lot.
caparo
perhaps he thought he was being respectful to a former prime minister or maybe he just thought that if you wished for something long enough and hard enough it might make it happen I missed it. When did Tony Blair die of some horrible painful illness?

Would you be grumbling if it was King Arthur who had just gone to the great coalmine in the sky for the same cost?
