  1. Nether Edge - One Of The Best Places To Live In 2024? Yes. But it depends on: A. which bit of Nether Edge? B. how much you can afford? C. How much disposable income you have? We don't want the hoi polloi rolling up.
  2. Three questions. Is Heeley nearest Poundland? If not, go to your nearest. Same stock. I see you don't drive. Have you tried catching a bus & walking? Have you tried catching a bus and or walking to your nearest Poundland? I think you'll find that your nearest Poundland will serve the same purpose is the one at Heeley Retail Park & that's why if I find myself on The Moor, I pop in that one for convenience, rather than making an additional journey to Heeley Retail Park. I also find it's a bit pointless me jumping in the car & travelling all the way to London to visit one of theirs because all the stories are identical.
  3. 'Kate Middleton - What The Hell Is Going On? Well from seeing some of the newspaper front pages this morning its `Read all about it! Woman pop to farm shop & watches her kids play sports.' Biggest hypocrite I saw this morning was Good Morning Britain's Susannah Reid, bang on that Middleton should be left alone. Well she's change her tune from last week when she was banging on about the doctored photo & that the 'nation' needed answers.. I wish Middleton well & I've no need to know what medical condition she has / has, although my wife reckons, abdominal surgery & the rehab time suggests hysterectomy. All I can add is Vive la Republic!
  4. Here's a new one. The Lloyds Banking Group which owns 'Scottish Widows' insurance & pensions have instructed their staff not to mention the terms 'widow: or :widower' in dealings with customers, The high street banking giant fears the words may “trigger unwarranted personal memories of trauma and upsetting situations." Can I suggest 'Terminally de-spoused' as an alternative. And how far behind the times are Lloyds with the term 'customers'? It's been 'Stakeholders' for a good decade now . Get with the times, Lloyds, PFFT!
  5. Looking at the reasons why, due to them dropping back into the Championship in the 3 years, I'd say 4 points is probably appropriate. At the end of the day, the Blades staying up is in our own hands
  6. Once again, no point in having a law, even if you think it's trivial, if you're not going to enforce it. Using The Moor as an example, SCC have basically turned the area from around the Town Hall / Pinstone St into a cycle lane & then you have the continuation right down Charter Row. Right, get some signs up at the top & bottom of The Moor, (SCC love a good sign), 'No bicycles permitted, cyclists must dismount (unless you're 5 or under). The enforcement could be carried out by those City Ambassadors I see aimlessly walking about on The Moor or a few PCSO' s. It'd only take a few dozen fines for it to register with errant cyclists. The most dangerous these days are those guys on the food delivery electric bikes travelling even up The Moor at excessive speed.
  7. Yes but that's because any Western coalition / NATO, (Turkey's a NATO member), need to be able to use Turkey's Incirlik Air Base, to carry operations in the Middle East or possibly some point against Russia.
  8. The Highway Code states this in Rule 64 that “You MUST NOT cycle on a pavement”. Cyclist of course can cycle on shared pavements with both pedestrians & cyclists sticking to their designated section. There's the large cycle path that runs down Charter Row, parallel to The Moor, that cyclists don't seem to be interested in. I'm guessing much more fun to ride at speed & slalom between pedestrians on The Moor?
  9. In Britain there are two pieces of legislation which give the Government power to order the suspension of the internet. The Civil Contingencies Act and the 2003 Communications Act can both be used to suspend internet services, either by ordering internet service providers (ISPs) to shut down their operations or by closing internet exchanges. Under the protocol of the Communications Act, the switch-flicking would be done by the Culture Secretary.
  10. Forgot about Judy Teen. There might be something about Harley on Johnnie Walker's 70's programme on Radio 2 this afternoon?
  11. It also looks good drapped in a Palestinian flag for that essential selfie for your socials.
  12. Wetherspoons might have an app but you'll still end up waiting as they never have enough staff on in the first place.
  13. Strange, I don't recall any outpouring of emotions or wide spread demonstrations on behalf of those Palestinian refugees, with thousands being killed in Syria by the Bashar Al-Assad regime?
  14. And when the Internet's down as well. See I can just be as pedantic! You know exactly what I'm getting at in my response to despritdan.
  15. When we walked into Sainsbury's yesterday at around 9:30, customers were being met by one of the security guards telling everyone, "It's cash only. The contactless & chip & PIN are down." I guess you actually had to be there. Here you all are, interested parties, take your pick. ALL Sainsbury's shops were affected. Tesco's were also having IT problems as well. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-68584235 https://www.theguardian.com/business/2024/mar/16/sainsburys-grocery-deliveries-hit-by-technical-issue https://news.sky.com/story/sainsburys-suffering-technical-issues-and-is-unable-to-fulfil-vast-majority-of-online-deliveries-13095737
  16. I get what you're stating but you'd be surprised at the number who were walking out. And these days, personally, it's rare for me to go to an ATM to get money. I bet I've not used an ATM in the last 6 months. The £50 in my wallet has been there for months while I use contactless & I don't recall having to put my PIN in anywhere during that time. With the majority of the regular payments / standing orders taken care by direct debits from our accounts, money comes in, money goes out. We never see it. Also these days, many, don't even seem use their debit / credit cards but instead use their mobiles.
  17. And on the other thread you've given your heart ♥ away to Prettytom but he's not reciprocated. Don't tell me bromance is over already & the Cutsie / Prettytom support group has fell apart.
  18. Don't worry. Life has a way of balancing itself out. At some point, one of those 20 year olds will want a fuse changing & they'll be clamouring for 60+ year old.
  19. We were in Iceland's Food Warehouse at Heeley Retail Park the other week & they were having IT problems at their checkouts. There was no contactless / mobile phone scanning available, only cash or chip & PIN. People are so used to just tapping their debit / credit cards these days, a few in the queues had to give up & leave their shopping because they had no cash or simply couldn't remember their PINs.
  20. My bold. Now, now, everyone has the right to peaceful & legal protest but I do get what you mean. I wasn't down that way Saturday morning but usually when one of these Palestinian protests are taking place, the meeting point in our area is the corner of Moncrieffe Rd., at Nether Edge while waiting to catch the 56 into the city. There's usually a small gathering of approx 8 to 10, average 60+, mainly women, (only ever seen one man), a placard or two, some with Palestinian flags drapped over shoulders. All white, all very middle class, all very polite as you'd expect from Nether Edge residents. I'm surmising here but I'll take a punt & say retired lecturers & social workers in the main & during the week, 'ladies who lunch'. I will guarantee though that having protested outside Waitrose yesterday, today like me, they'll be shopping in there for their quinoa, Himalayan pink salt & perhaps their Israeli dates.
  21. Well yesterday, it was cah only across all the Sainsbury's UK stores after an IT update meant all their, chip & pin, contactless failed.
  22. Well clean your home if it smells. You must have had plenty of time yesterday. You weren't within a hundred miles of Ipswich yesterday. Back in your pen.
  23. And who bothered to trawl the internet in the first place looking for such a stupid survey because they've nothing else in life. Back in your pen.
  24. Much better since they've moved to Woodside Retail Park on Chesterfield Rd. Bigger, cleaner, modern store, carrying more stock lines & plenty of parking space.
  25. I suppose we've got to be thankful he wasn't up to anything iffy around Cockshutt Road at Greenhill?
