Council Rents Going Up By 7.7% In April
geared replied to Retro Queen's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Why shouldn't the council raise rates? Inflation has made everything they do so much more expensive, so rent rises accordingly. -
Not sure how Ukraine benefits from Putin bumping off another political opponent? There'll be some protests, but the Russian state is pretty efficient at cracking down on those. The Russians are set to take a town in the East of Ukraine Avdiivka. They've thrown tens of thousands of men and lost large numbers of equipment in the process. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-68313306

How Do I Find Out Who Sold My House?
geared replied to vipguy's topic in Sheffield Property & Housing
Are you current solicitor what to do, not a bunch of random internet weirdos. -
How exactly is this supposed to work? The council give Peel nearly £140m, to run an airport they don't want open? The council will buy the airport off Peel and try to run it themselves? There is a seriously large amount of money on the line here, for something that could quite easily be closed again in 18 months?? Will anyone be held accountable if this goes belly-up???

Justified Or A Step Too Far?
geared replied to The_DADDY's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
We're assuming this guy is a thief, not someone confused or not in their right mind. The van wasn't going anywhere, it was blocked in so they weren't stealing that. Maybe they were going through the glovebox? You would have thought anyone attempting to steal from a van, would be far more interested in what's in the rear and not the detritus in the front??? -
They don't show on my browser either, so here are the contact details:

The best you can do is complain to your local councillors, and if there's a police community meeting, attend that and complain there. Be prepared to be fobbed off one way or another though. They send a couple of speed monitoring patrols to our area a while back. One was early afternoon on a Tuesday, the other was a Thursday evening and it was in completely the wrong place. Needless to say they didn't' record much.

Putin's hoping that the Americans will do the job for him, withdraw their support and force the Ukranians to accept whatever terms Putin sets. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-68246566

Depends how it's installed, is it a tank in a hole in the ground, or is the tank buried entirely? Cos it'd be easier digging a new hole to install a hydrogen tank in, than digging up and old tank, sorting out it's disposal (as it's obviously hazardous) then making the hole good and installing a hydrogen tank in. Planning might be an advantage for an existing fuel station though, probably not so laborious with the council if you're swapping tanks and pipework about,

Putin's offered to end the war several times, with a variety of changing terms attached. He's also laid claim to parts of Ukraine his troops don't even control. No-one can trust a word that comes out of his mouth.
-
Those are petrol/diesel tanks tho, they wouldn't be any good at storing hydrogen. It'd need all new stuff installing.

It is, but you only end up with a slow 7kw charger. Ok if you're just doing some shopping locally, but at service stations where people need to charge up and go they're pointless. The fast charger stations do end up with big install costs as they usually have a couple of containers full of batteries and such on site to enable the fast charging.

To be fair most of those who are not going to continue development are also the same ones who've not really bothered with it in the first place. VW group and Ford especially, their offerings have been shockingly poor. Weirdly Toyota are well known for being early to the market with an EV, Ford also have an electric Focus on the market, over a decade ago! Seemingly, they stopped bothering with it, while other companies went in for it big time. The market now seems split between the big hitters like Tesla, and players from SE Asia.

Show Solidarity For The Ukrainians In Sheffield
geared replied to butlers's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
The Russian invasion of Ukraine is hardly a bogus war either, and from many of the Ukrainians I've met, they'd very much like to return home when it's safe. -
Are you particularly stupid or something? Teeside Airport is still in operation. Furthermore Peel sold their share in this airport a long time ago. Sheffield city airport was never a going concern, the runway was far too short to accommodate many of the regional jets operated by popular low cost airlines.

Work Till You're 71. Your Thouhts?
geared replied to Anna B's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
I doubt many want to put in 5 days a week at that age. However, getting out of the house, having a routine, interacting with other people are all actually very positive things for people of that age. A little extra income is always welcome too. Have seen too many people hit retirement age, vegetate in front of the TV all day and very quickly deteriorate both mentally and physically. -
Into his second season at Juventus and he's played in....................................12 matches. You wouldn't think it possible to do worse than when he was at Utd, but he's found another level to sink down to.
