I admit I'm not familiar with all the Pogues songs, but for me, Fairytale of New York will always be a favourite.

Listen to Sally MacLennane . If your legs stay still , call a doctor.

👍 I recall starting a thread about the song a few years ago Cressida.

Unfortunately some didn't have the good taste you and I have. 😂

I was stopped in my tracks when I heard Shane's version of the anti war song Waltzing Matilda with it's haunting banjo accompanyment and single drum beat, absolutely brilliant.

It surely would go to his wife who would pass it on to their children,  no problem.

A very talented songwriter who mixed traditional Irish music with the attitude of punk, too many great songs to mention but just listening to the superb A Pair of Brown Eyes.

RIP Shane.

As an aside I was once in a packed pub in Newcastle on a Bank Holiday Sunday as I was working up there, there was me and a colleague in their and it was my round, I fought my way to the bar, got my two pints and started the walk back to my mate, the early slow bars of Fiesta kicked in and I can just remember thinking "on no" when the uptempo bit started the whole pub jumped up and I got back with about a mouthful of ale in each glass. 😀
