Does anyone date anymore??

Recommended Posts

This is why I'm asking, I've been asked out and I've asked people out too, the downside is eventually it's turned to sex before the date has been arranged, I'm not going to jump into bed with anyone I don't know, been there done that

What happened to good old fashioned dating? You were asked out, went on a few dates then things progressed' I think it's sad that it seems to have gone

Where though?

That's the answer. People used to meet in pubs, clubs, dance halls, cinema etc.

The internet, social media and general entertainment now pretty much confines people to a much more insular existence, mostly in your home. Even 20 years ago (pre www explosion), a beer, a film, a dance, a film etc. meant actually going out and meeting people.

That's why these apps do well nowadays. Pick and choose>sex.

Best of british with your dating but if you tell people you won't jump into bed with just anyone and then tell them thats what you have done, there is a mixed message issue.

My view is screwing on a first date ceased being bad in the late 50s but hey what do I know?

There's also a question of are you doing what you want to be doing, or, are you doing what you think is expected of you / social norm?

That's still how it goes in my experience. Although it seems to have moved from singles bars to online dating now.

Yes, you're so right. Pubs, clubs, the cinema, none of those even exist anymore. There are just empty spaces where they used to be.

Referring to my mate again, he mostly met girls on a first date for coffee, since he was meeting these girls online they both preferred somewhere relatively public for the first date or two.

He dated for a while, maybe 10 different girls, before he found one that stuck. They've been together now for a few months. FYI age is mid/late thirties (for him), she's a few years younger, firmly mid thirties.

I don't care whether it becomes the social norm to have sex and THEN get to know someone. Even if I was single I would be quite content to be swimming against the tide on that one.

Some people create the tide, others follow it (until they mature in to the former).

Being newly single, I'm beginning to think that no one dates anymore? It seems to be the norm in the circles I mix in anyway that it's jump into bed and then see what happens??

Is it just me no te wrong circle or is this now the norm?

I guess it does depend on how you socialise, and your age. Getting out at all is a posative, then just see who you meet.
