Shortchanged at stores..

Recommended Posts

A certain local / national store (green) is always not freely giving receipts and short changing...its all very 'un-cooperative'.

I've caught them in the act once or twice but last week I was in a rush and got caught out. I didn't notice until half way down the road and of course no receipt...

So last saturday I put a complaint in because the dude behind the counter had actually short changed me £5 from a £12 shop. At the time I could barely hear the ill-educated fellow and he gave me loads of change in bits and pieces...and they were closing, usually I'm more careful.

Still haven't heard back.

It happens in 2 of their stores, not giving receipts, very, very dodgy practice...anyone else found this?

Anyone know how to escalate this? do supermarkets have a trading standards body?

So you didn't take a receipt/check your change while in the shop?

Think you will have to put that one down to experience, my advice is don't shop there again.

Take it all the way fella - I can hear the laughter now.... "Your honour, I didn't get a receipt & I didn't check my change but I know that they short changed me by 5 English pounds".

You just got a lesson for £5 in 'how not to be a silly billy in future' - money will spent I'd say

Sadly for you it is not the international conspiracy that you think it is.

Some express stores are not printing receipts anymore. It makes sense, saves paper etc for what is often a shop of only a few items. If you want a receipt you just ask for one.

This then relies on till operators to get change right. Sometimes mistakes are made. But it is always the responsibility of the shopper to check their change before they leave the store.

My fella is weird. He is a mathematical genius lol. He can add up, subtract, divide as fast as a calculator! He can get the price of the trolley of shopping in Asda correct to the penny (unless it's the Asda at Handsworth) that store has more wrong prices! (If you tell them they give you the money back plus £2) and he nipped in to the shop the op is on about for three things. All were the wrong price! One item by 89p! The manager was called and gave him some attitude lol. Until my fella walked him to each item and showed him the correct prices! It really is worth checking your change and receipt

I don't shop there, after a lovely person, very close to me, who was a regular shopper there, was publicly, in the full shop, accused of shoplifting. Of course, they protested their innocence, but were not given a receipt to prove this. So they were escorted to the 'office' until the till receipt print off obviously showed they had paid for it. They are an absolutely disgraceful outfit.

On a separate occasion, my partner was also locked in the shop with a potentially very violent person, who was kicking off, because the staff had accused him of wanting to shoplift beers. Never mind the danger he was to other customers locked in the shop with him. He was capable of turning on anyone, all for the cost of a few beers.
