What Defines Sheffield?

Recommended Posts

Always looking backwards, poor spelling and punctuation. That's Sheffield.

You have got it in one Albert.

Mine would be lack of efficiency or council inefficiency

Unfinished projects, pipe dreams and wasted resources

Then hills upon hills upon hills upon hills upon hills upon hills

The only football team in the world that has a day named after it

Then there is fish cakes, bread cakes, baps and Henderson's Relish

Then there is Don Valley Stadium, an ill effect of the World Student Games

Then there is the Hillsborough disaster, which has scarred the city for decades

There was industry now no industry, markets now no markets and lots of chuggers :hihi:

Item four is wrong.

It's pointless asking sheffielders what defines sheffield though isn't it - surely it's what other people who aren't totally familiar with sheffield think of us/it.

Background: Born Manchester, worked 30yrs in London. Moved back North 2yrs ago. Now live in Sheffield.

In my opinion. The follwoing defines Sheffield:

It's rich Industrial History. It's geography -situated not very far from the Peak District National Park. In my experience-the generally kind and considerate people. Their accents and sense of humour. The low price of exceptionally strong beer ! The Universities. And many other aspects of Yorkshire life.

Moaning, grumbling and negativity.

Underachievement.

The hills define sheffield for me - people are formed by their environment.

And the beautiful accent.
