Will Sheffield football ever see another testimonial?
Veritas replied to green_man's topic in Sheffield Football
The Pele/ Banks save was 1970 -
My favourite Wenesday player of the mid 60's was Wilf Smith who although born in Germany did grow up in Sheffield from a very young age. Albert Quixhall I beleive went to Hillfoot school with my late father who always maintained that his transfer to MUFC was a big mistake as he was never really going to be accepted as a replacement for The Busby Babes

I would go something like this Long Badger Walker Maguire Shaw (G) Woodward Whitehouse Stainrod Bradshaw Sharp Brook If Dronfield was included on the basis of it being urbanised to accommodate the Rate Dodgers from Sheffield then G Cahill would have made the team with unfortunately Leonard having drop to the bench. We do seem to have had a glut of fullbacks over the years with local lads such as Kyle Naughton, Bernard Shaw, Cec Coldwell and possibly the late Mick Heaton who I remember living on Toll Bar Road on the sidelines as well as Kyle Walker being accommodated at Centre Half. Other worthy mentions are the Hoylands ( Father Tommy and son Jamie) and The De La Salle old boys of The Fenoughty Brothers ( albeit from Thybergh) and Ian Holmes. Although not Sheffield the following were from the vicinity and nurtured from the likes of Don & Dearne boys in the 60's. Alan Hodgkinson ( Laughton Common) Mick Jones (Shireoaks) and Frank Barlow and my former favourite Geoff Sammons ( Mexborough) -
I would assume it is The York it is on the corner of Fulwoid Road albeit in Broomhill and has great food being under the same ownership as The Broadfield

You must be a very wealthy person then because at the last balance sheet date Blades Leisuure had net assets in excess of £1.7m so congratulations on your multi millionaire status . If my eyes are not deceiving me they also seemed to have recently alloted £2,000.000 of new shares so you are a wealthy man indeed . ---------- Post added 21-07-2015 at 20:37 ---------- You did indeed send me a PM which if course I ignored as you basically spend most of your time on here posting your little digs usually without substance just to try and get a rise. As for putting men straight do me a favour. And with regards to professional I have spent the last 40 years working at 5 firms of Chartered Accountants in this city so draw your own conclusions, ---------- Post added 21-07-2015 at 20:38 ---------- Funny enough I am sat in my house in Italy with nothing better to do so I may as well respond plus I have been drinking all day hence the numerous edits

City taxis buyout Mercury taxis in uber scare
Veritas replied to Dan12's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I got an Uber Taxi last night at 4.00 pm from my house at High Storrs to All Bar One on Leopold street the fare was £5.79 about a £1 less than my comparable Mercury/City fare. I also took an Uber taxi last week from home to The Prince of Wales and the fare was £3.05 -

Today's nightclubs compared to the 70s
Veritas replied to Cycleracer's topic in Going out in Sheffield
The main attraction for nightclubs for me was the availability of drink for another 3 hours from 11-2.00 am. Of course now with the liberalisation of the drinking laws it is now very easy to go to a late bar if you want to continue drinking rather than having to go to a club. -
I believe Henry's on Cambridge Street is now the place for Northern Soul on Saturday night. In the dyatime there is of course Maggie Mays until 7.00 pm

Suggest a nice place to eat in Chapeltown
Veritas replied to JKP45's topic in Going out in Sheffield
I was also going to suggest Greenhead House. Not quite Chapeltown but close by Whitley Hall used to produce decent food -

Best way from Sheffield to Liverpool airport?
Veritas replied to lokonahuel's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I use Liverpool airport a fair bit and use this route or direct train to Liverpool Parkway South and then Airport Bus to Airport. Although last Saturday flew from Manchester and went via Chapel-en-le Frith as the snake was closed -
Paul Carrack and The Proclaimer's are reasonably big acts for this event I would have thought

Nigel Adkins - New Blades Manager [CONFIRMED]
Veritas replied to green_man's topic in Sheffield Football
Dino Zoff had a bit of success as manager of Juve and Italy -
Correct used to go in regularly in the late 70's early 80's when Frank & Dot had it and we all used to drink in the back yard. Then it was revamped in the late 80's and Edwards was opened and you used to walk from one to the other. Chuck from The Golden Ball and latterly The 3 Cranes had it at one bit when they had the steaks self cooking on the hot stones but were stopped by the council on H & S grounds

Looks like it is ready to. Apparently now taken over by the former hosts of the Bull at Ashford so the food should be good
