I seem to recall my freehold was owned by Proctors (I think the old roofing company family )and they contacted me before disposing to Coppen. As there was over 900 years left on my lease and the ground rent was only £4 a year I passed at the time. My mistake the consent fee for my conservatory was not much different to the combined cost of the reversion and the legal fees

Watched Englands 1st 4 games at Blind Monkey last one at The Banner Cross. Both at capacity. The Banner Cross had both rooms downstairs the function room and the garden absolutely rammed. -
Blind Monkey but the Beer Garden has been at capacity

The afternoon tea at Marco's on West Bar looked quite nice last week although that may be a bit of a walk

Seems a long time since Sheffield used to have 6 seperate district tax offices as well as a seperate office for the collector and you was able to dealt directly with some of the district inspectors who were quite approchable Keith Renshaw being the prime example .

I actually mentioned the hygeine rating first , I don't recall saying the food was delicious I did say what I had was good , I also said the place looked tired. The reference to the plethora of Chinese Students eating there would indicate that it's cuisine was popular within their community which is well served by a significant amount of similar nearby restaurants inculing the whole of London Road. If you point me to an English Restaurant thats full of English students I may well go along to see if that's a valid recommendation

It actually got no stars, I went last year for a pre match meal food was good , place does look a bit tired plenty of Chinese Students there though which you think would be a good recommendation

It is indeed a private members club , but membership is open to all I live on the road and have had flyers through the door over the years promoting it, I have myself only been in once on the 28 years I have lived there and that was 28 years ago . It did have a full size snooker table. It is also used for functions a friend of mine went to a birthday celebration there on Sunday.

Real ale pubs showing world cup matches

I suppose that some will not consider The Blind Monkey to be a real ale pub but they should be showing games weather permitting outside in the Beer Garden on their 60’ screen -

As the owners of The BM now also own Don Valley dont be suprised to see more of their lines. Ribblehead, Gongoozler , Timothy Taylor’s Boltmaker as well as the Bradfield currently on offer as well as I think a Theakstons mild on the main bar. There are also a number of craft beers on the taps on the wall behind the bar one I think from Camden. -

It has been purchased by the owners of this place http://www.cadebyinn.com/ Expect a very well furnished good local pub with emphasis on good beers -
He lives in New Jersey

Don't think he was at The Beauchief. The last venture I remember him having was the Steak Bar The London Club I.e. The old Tuckwoods on Surrey Street. His most well known venture was probably Slammers on Ecclesall Road which I quite liked , I Also liked his mini bar at The Hunters Bar Roundabout. I also think when the Devonshire was remodelled and relaunched quite a few years ago he was originally involved in the food side of things.

Did Ansell's brewery have any pubs in Sheffield?
Veritas replied to crookedspire's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
The Nailmakers , actually come to think off it was it not owned by Scottish & Newcastle. Also the nearby Bagshawe Arms was the only Yates Wine Lodge that I remember in Sheffield although there were plenty in Greater Manchester /Lancashire wondering which brewery they were affiliated to ? -
Bought a sofa and a matching sofa-bed 13 years ago from Ikea in Genoa although they don't get used everyday they are still in very good shape and have proved to be excellent value

Did Ansell's brewery have any pubs in Sheffield?
Veritas replied to crookedspire's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
I think M & B was a subdivision of Bass Charrington like William Stones. The only none Bass/Tetley/Whitbread/ Wards pubs I remember were The Pomona (Home Ales) which I think was Nottingham and the Britisk Oak (Shipstones) also Nottingham, Pig & Whistle Camerons) and the afore mentioned Pike & Heron (Mansfield). I think The Shepley Spitfire was also a Nottingham brewery -
Bessemar/Fountain/Pig and Whistle pub, Leopold street

I think when Cameron's opened it Roger Nowill was the manager who went on to manage the Frog & Parrot and produced the beer Roger and out. It eventually became part of Wayne Chadwick's mini chain and I think they piped the music from the DJ at the weekend from there to the Wig & Pen and possibly The Marples
