  1. I've heard good reports about Critter Sitters and Pet Angels. Cheers
  2. Thanks for that folks, if anyone has any other experience or advice I'd appreciate it. I've booked her in at the vets tonight anyway as I don't want her to end up in pain. I've had cystitis myself and it's no joke! Cheers
  3. My 2 yr old female RSPCA cat who I've had since March this year appears to be having difficulty in peeing. I noticed it yesterday morning and again this morning. I don't think she's been and this morning after a protracted sit in the tray she got out and went to examine her bum briefly, before walking off. Other than that she seems fine, she's eating, her habits haven't changed she slept contentedly with me as usual last night, and I think her bowels are fine (though as I have 2 cats it's a little tricky to be sure without a DNA test) She isn't showing any signs of pain Basically I'm looking for advice here: should I take her to the vets tonight or wait and see. Does anyone have suggestions or experience of anything similar. Could it be a urinary or kidney infection? Thanks in anticipation
  4. Hi I can also recommend Tony Jackson a really good, straight sort of a man in my experience. Tel 0114 2589889
  5. The RSPCA have 2 gorgeous torti kittens at the moment
  6. Partygirl you don't know anymore about the cat that was attacked in S5 do you? There's a post on here from someone whose normally indoor cat escaped a day or so again and hasn't been seen since, and that was S5 (hoping it's not the same one)
  7. Thanks for the feedback so far looks like one good, one bad, and a so so! Can I just check, do they have emergency out of hours cover of their own? Many thanks again
  8. Hi My advice for what it's worth is; if they're not used to the carriers you're going to use leave them around the place with one of your shirts or Tshirts which you've worn and not washed inside. They might do like my cats do and use it as a bed. If they are the nervous types I'd try and keep them out of the way as much as possible on the day of the move i.e in a quiet bedroom, until it's time to leave. When you get to the new house let them come out of the carriers in their own time, and if they appear really frightened keep them in one room for a day or so until they calm down (smaller spaces are less frightening for cats apparantly) As a general guide I'd keep them in for 3 to 4 weeks but they may feel 100% at home sooner than that, or may take a little longer. You could always try the cat pheromone sprays as an added precaution, some people swear by them, but I've never tried them. I hope this helps, and I hope the move goes well. Cheers
  9. Hi Has anyone had any experience of Hallam vets in Hillsborough? I have 2 cats from RSPCA and need to register them with a vet. I have used Hallam in the past and they were OK, I just wondered if anyone has any more recent experience, or recommends for other vets in that end of town. I would welcome any comments. Many thanks
  10. Hi Mauz Sorry I don't know how to pm you! But you are more than welcome to the fish. 2 are about 6 or 7 inches long, and the other 2 are about 4 or 5 inches long. My number is 07791 003152 if you give me a call we can arrange a time for collection. Cheers Newbiz
  11. Hi I have 4 pond fish you can have, 2 quite large 2 medium. they are black ( they're some sort of hybrid from my sisters pond, so are probably a cross between, goldfish/orf or ghost carp/goldish or orf) I'm at Loxley Let me know if your interested. Cheers
  12. Hi can't help with the litter tray, but my advice for litter is the wood based variety. It starts as little compressed pellets of what turns out to be sawdust. It's great for keeping the smell down, and it smells slightly of pine. I have 2 cats and I have never smelt urine, and the poo only smells if they make a poor job of covering it! Best buy is Wilkinsons 15 litres, costs about £4.50 and last me about 2 and half weeks. Hope this helps
  13. ooops.......That was supposed to read 'what did you make of him'?
  14. Has anyone been sent to Peter Morgan via BiG via SENTA. If so what did you amke of him?
  15. I'm sorry to hear about your little one, but can I ask what the kitten died from?
  16. I used to have hens. Bear in mind that providing you never let them out between dusk and dawn you don't need to fox proof the run providing the henhouse is secure. Foxes wont come out during the day.
  17. I recently adopted two cats from the RSPCA aged 2 and 6 who'd been in the pen together. Even at their ages they still lie in wait for one another, chase each other and have mad half hours! Occasionally they'll have a bit of a hissy with one another, but I find it best to just ignore it. If your younger kitten is happy then I'd say leave them to it too.
  18. Hi I adopted a couple of adult cats recently from the RSPCA. The first thing I bought (apart from a bed, litter trays etc) was a good supply of anti-bacterial spray. Use it liberally before food prep, when washing up etc and the jobs a jolly. I have told them 'no' when it comes to going on food prep areas and now they don't do it when I'm their any longer, but telltale prints and knocked over lamps tell me they do what the hell they like when I'm not looking! Bless 'em!!
  19. Hi I have a very large carrier if you need to borrow it. I live at Loxley.
  20. Think in terms of weeks rather than days, and then it takes the stress out of it for all concerned. I got 2 nervous cats from RSPCA 4 1/2 weeks ago. They were like shadows for the first few days, in hiding and completely nocturnal. I left the food water and litter tray near them and just let them be. Now they take turns sleeping on my bed, trip me up constantly cus they're always under my feet and are generally coming on in leaps and bounds. It is worrying I know, but just be patient - you'll get there. All the best
  21. How's your cat? Is he still behaving strangely, and what did the vet say. I hope he's alright.
  22. Thanks for the advice, I think you're right it may well be a waste of money. I'll soon find out as I'm picking them up this afternoon ............ I can't wait!
  23. Hi I'm adopting 2 adult cats from the RSPCA. one is 2 yrs and the other 6yrs. I have 2 of the bog standard scratching posts ( square base, with a pole about a foot or so high in the middle ) but wondered whether anyone had any experience/opinions of the more 'exotic' scratchers and/or activity centres. I've seen wave ones, ones on an incline, ones forming part of an activity centre - it's quite a dazzling array! Once the cats are settled they will have access to outside, which is one big activity centre where I live, so do you think I'd be wasting my money on an indoor activity centre? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. Many thanks
  24. I was there from 1975 to 1980. Some of you might have known one or more of my older sisters. Our surname was Gregory, and older sisters names are Liz, Kath Angie and Josie. I went to a reunion at Oakbrook with my sister Kath in about March last year. It was fascinating to see the old place again, brought back a lot of memories. There was hardly anybody of my age there though, they were all older. We had a rousing rendition of the school song and I even came away with the sheet music for it! I bought a book on the history of the school which had some ace photos in it; all the old faces, Miss Molloy, Miss Feeley Mrs Barefoot ( another top name) both Mr Hugheses. Mrs Sergent Mrs Knowles. Did anybody on the forum go?
