  1. Our cat has a deep respect for our hens I really would not worry about keeping hens and cats together. Our oldest biggest lady who is three this year chases the cat when she gets too close, and the cat moves
  2. there have been a lot of police around for a while, last week they were stopping the school kids getting off the 40 at the terminus, there were aparently two cars also on Barncliffe crescent. think that was last Monday, the old lady next door told me about it.
  3. I would certainly do that if you can find cover, wish we had when we decided to have the loft done. The architect we were recomended ripped us off and then dropped dead before we could get the fees back, and the electrician who came to prepare the wiring left our house in a right state. Just having his bodge job sorted out now.. our electrician says the wiring was a fire waiting to happen and it's costing 1.5 k to sort it out. I would deffo recomend trying to get some sort of cover, there are loads of cowboys out there. We ended up not having the loft done because I just don't trust builders anymore
  4. Sounds like a right nightmare ! are you confined to the house too?
  5. How long do the tests take to do? I was really hoping that it was quick. Now that it's unsure I will have to take steps to avoid mixing with my sister and dad on sunday because of the risk of passing it on (they have weak immune systems due to a pre existing health condition)
  6. We have had a letter back from school today that reads as follows..It has been confirmed by the H.P.O that a child who has been away from Hallam for the last three days has had a test where the result is sugestive of a diagnosis but the test is not clear and will be redone. Basicly the rest of the letter said school is open for now, but will close if the test becomes positive
  7. I'm not panicking I just want to know if I should be keeping away from the members of my family who do have lower immune systems due to exsisting health conditions. I would never forgive myself if i passed on any sort of flu virus to them, normally it's easy to keep away when standard flu is doing the rounds because people will mention it. This seems to be more cloak and dagger
  8. Thanks for letting me know but would you know if they are currently testing any pupils who are suspected of having the virus?
  9. It's difficult to wade through all the rumours to get to the truth, I suspect the kids are helping the spread of whispers to get a few days off N.H.S comms can you confirm that there is no truth to the reports of an outbreak at Tapton?
  10. Someone should tell the local council then, because they said they were aware of an outbreak at tapton this morning, prehaps he confused Tapton with lydgate ?
  11. I would not worry too much, they are saying it's only a mild strain. It's only really a danger to those with pre exisiting health conditions. This is why I am trying to find out if there is any truth to the rumours, having reletives with health conditions that mean a dose of flu can be deadly I need to know so I can keep away for a while
  12. I got a voice text from Tapton last night stating that school was open as normal today and all pupils should attend, and that any flu like symptoms should be reported to school first thing. The message came at tea time, one of the parents down the road from me got one also. I have spoke to the education authority who seem to be aware of this, but would not commit to any information, they advised to ring the PCT, who told me to ring N.H.Sdirect who they said would confirm there were cases at the School, of course the message from N.H.S direct is that they are only dealing with urgent cases.. seems to me like they are trying to aviod giving a direct answer
  13. I have been told this morning theat there are 6 cases at Tapton in year seven, an that the school goveners have made the decision to stay open.. can anyone confirm this is true? a couple of the other parents in the area who also have children at Tapton are hearing the same thing.. I can't seem to get through to the school to confirm
  14. He seems to have perked up a little, Iwill stilll be keeping a close eye on him for flu like symptoms just in case
  15. Could I just ask about what symptoms your little one has? for comparison to my little one?
  16. I suppose they would be the same as any air borne Virus, there would be a risk if the kids are coughing and sneezing allover the place.. Suppose it's important to remember catch it kill it bin it! I for one will be keeping a close eye on my little one, who is starting to look quite pasty and is complaing of aches
  17. I'm going to give them a ring in a little while, he seems to be eating O.K so I guess it's not flu. I will be however keeping a close eye on him with us being so near to the other school, some of the children at Lydgate have siblings at Hallam
  18. Not wanting to sound Panic Stricken! but, my child attends Hallam School(not far from Lydgate School), he is a bit poorly today, he's not displaying flu like symptoms as yet.. but he is a bit warm and the whites of his eyes are all red and bloodshot and he was crying and unsettled most of last night. Does swinr flu carry an exact course of the flu,or do the symptoms vary? I have a very young baby at home so obviously want to remain flu free
  19. When we were taking the baby down to the doctors nearly two weeks ago next Wed's there were two of those helecopters flying over crosspool, heading in an out of town direction. We stopped to have a look at them passing
  20. I saw that! It really looked like he was going to hit the roofs of the houses on Hallam grange Rd. I saw it again after it took off from the golf course, it looked like it was too high after this. Wonder if he has issues with his equiptment?? I certainly wont be rushing to book a ride, must have been scary for those in the basket
  21. I am so sorry to read about this, I exchanged many emails with owdie, R.I.P Jeff.. He was a great chap..I feel very sad and my thoughts are with his family at this time.
  22. Is she the head of the pecking order? Just a thought, but some hens asume roll of **** amongst the flock when there is no actuall rooster around. I am probably wrong but it's possible. Have a browse of some of the hen keepers forums for a little more help http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/ http://www.kelseyinfo.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl They both have extensive information on them, it may be of some help.. good luck
  23. Your not kidding there, we took some of the pannels off the bottom of our car getting down Storrs Lane! It should really say on the website that the road leading there is more of a deeply rutted dirt track When we eventually got what was left of the car down to Storrs we picked up a lovley bluebell and a Blackrock. I have two blackrocks and the Bluebell and they are all great layers, they produce far more eggs than we can eat, one of my Blackrocks is two years old and still laying lovley big eggs on a daily basis.
  24. R.T.A according to the star, road due to reopen around 4p.m
  25. Well, it's stopped now after turning to sleet briefly. We are right on top of the hill up here near Redmires Rd
