  1. Looks like it's rolled in early.. we have huge big flakes falling up here
  2. We still have snow up here,it comes in heavy flurries and then gets a little finer
  3. I would think the 51 will not run for long, just been to Lodgemoor shops and the road there is dire. There was one bus heading down towards Crosspool and the driver was being very cautious. Cars are slipping allover up here
  4. You could allways get the 51 and walk down from the hallam grange stop, as a last resort if the 40/120 is not running
  5. I know, I have not slept properly since it started to snow.. Normally I'd have been out playing in it like a big kid with the little one:D But I am under orders.. women in my condition should not frolick in the snow apparently I am hoping the young un gets a snow day tomorrow..school were adamant that they would open today, but theres so much snow I am hoping he gets a day off to play Still debating sneaking out and leaving the worlds biggest snowboulder in the middle of the cul-de-sac
  6. Theres tonns of the stuff up here, and currently it's still falling. I can't sleep I feel like a kiddie at christmas. I recon theres easily a foot or more in places I feel like going and making a ginormous snowball and leaving it in the middle of the road But I can't due to being almost ready to give birth or I would
  7. Ooo, that would be sooo brill .. bet we don't get that much though. I love snow..
  8. And theres a possability building of another snow event on Thursday, although it seems a little uncertain at the moment
  9. It's just startingto snow up here!! only a light fall but certainly snow grains
  10. I wouldnt mind the details of the lady who delivers if you would be kind enough to pass them on, I don't drive so somtimes it's a bind to get to the retail park
  11. You can get metal ones, but I have only ever seen them online or at storrs poultry at Oxpring (it's quite a trek but they have loads of stuff) http://www.domesticfowltrust.co.uk/products/POULTRY_EQUIPMENT.html try that site for a rough idea of whats available, it may also be worth having a look at the Practical Poultry website, theres lots of links to suppliers on there http://www.practicalpoultry.co.uk/
  12. I feed mine on layers pellets and corn, but ex batts may need somthing different. When I first got my hens I used the floor standing feeders, we have since bought an eglu that has a feeder and drinker that suspend off the ground, I find this much easier, theres less mess to clean up in the evening. I find it's best to keep the run area clean to avoid visits from long tailed pests. I find mine are not too fussy regarding the pellets they eat, but like treats also, they love boiled rice, bits of pasta, greens and grated carrot. If you are getting very young birds then it may be best to get a mash as opposed to pellets, our pullets came to us at 18 weeks and they seemed happy enough to eat the layerspellets. Best of luck with your hens hope you get everything sorted.
  13. Try Horse and rider at Crookes I think you have to order the feed, not sure if they do feeders though. We get feed and corn from the pet superstore at medowhall retail park when we are passing, they do sell feeders.
  14. Well I hope they bring you lots of pleasure just as our rescue hens did, we only have one rescue hen left now, the other died last year. We love our hens, although the bottom of the garden is like a mudpit at the moment We fetched two pullets before christmas to keep the remaining rescue hen company, they are laying us lots of lovley eggs, infact they are laying more than we can eat at the moment.
  15. Someone told me about this yesterday, seems crazy this guy can keep getting away with opening up new shops to rip off the general public.
  16. I wonder, has prehaps somthing spooked them around the feeding area? sounds like they want to eat but are reluctant to land. Best of luck getting things sorted for them
  17. I am very keen to deliver at home, the O/H however is taking a little more convincing. He's in agreement with my sister on the hospital being the safest place. I can really see the benefits of being relaxed at home for the birth,my last delivery was natural so not having any pain relif is not really an issue to me. I also thought with it being the third it should in theory be a quite fast affair and I may not get the time to go the horrid hospital.
  18. With the bith of my third child being just over 10 weeks away I have been considering the birth. I am not a huge fan of the hospital, I feel that it hinders the bonding process when you are in an uncomfortable enviroment, they are dirty and it's impossible to rest properly afterwards. After the birth of my second child I went home after 6 hours, and was thinking about just cutting out the hospital alltogether this time. I talked about this with my sister yesterday who said she thought the hospital is the safe place to be in case of complications, I wanted to hear from others who have opted for homebirth to see how they found the experience on the whole. My second child was born without any complications, although he did get a bit stuck on the way out. I must admit I have not seen or spoke to a midwife since I was 18 weeks and have only seen one twice the entire time,I am now 28 and a half weeks, I have found the whole anti natal care scheme this time round to be shocking to say the least. This is one of the things thats pushing me to give birth at home, I do not want a complete stranger who I have no faith in delivering my child.
  19. I had no idea that it was only one pound of the entrance fee donated. That seems really unfair, bloody greedy council. Sounds like we were wise to get there early before things got really bad. I did notice that around 5:30 people became a little less civil and the pushing and barging started. We managed to get the little one on most of the kiddie rides, but the queues did seem to get larger after we walked back up. Seems a shame, it could have been a lovley event if it were planned a little better.. and the council could have been a little less greedy and let the childrens have a little more of a donation from the entrance fee. I am quite shocked by the fact they took 4 pounds of it, especially as it was plugged as a charity event.
  20. We have just got back, I did not begrudge the five pound fee because it was a charity event for the childrens hospital I think?. There was a little bit of waiting involved for some of the childrens rides, we did not see the raindeer because that was a silly wait with a massive que. It was nice early on to walk round and look at the lanterns and lights with the little one, but towards six o'clock people became a little on the rude side and there was a little argybargy pushing and shoving. One bloke tried to walk through me only to find I am on crutches and fell over them served him right rude man. I would not have wanted to pay more than a fiver to get in mind. prehaps next time they could space out some of the childrens rides so the crowds are not as dense in a small area. The kiddies rides were all free, I thought that was nice.
  21. I wish people were not so quick to knock New Deal, over 9 years ago when I was a single parent of a 7 year old following a divorce, New deal lone parent advisors found me a job. They could not have helped me enough, coached me for the interview and gave me confidence to walk into a job I had never done before. I still have that job nearly 9 years down the line, and it changed my life. I found I had more money more self respect and finding childcare was not half as hard as I thought it would be. It's not all bad and the system does work occasionally I know this from experience both as an ex lone parent and now as a civil servant. Sometimes it may be worth giving it a shot... It may just change your life
  22. I also saw the helicoptr last night, I am so sorry to hear about the circumstance. I hope your wife makes a full recovery, she must (as you all must) be going through a terrible time. I hope she manages to regain her inner strength and find peace again xx
  23. 'They fell for our freedom and Honour' they will allways be Heroes in my eyes.
