  1. Thanks all. After a wild goose chase around various places,I ended up with Romanian wine from Sainsburys, and the last bottle of oozo from Rhythm and booze at Banner Cross. For food I did olives and feta for Greece, and Romanian apple cake, which was yummy. Only problem was you got a nibble and drink for each song and each country,so drank far too much to quick, and needed my bed too early!! Good night though!
  2. Thanks for replies.http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Romanian-Apple-Cake/Detail.aspx Just found this recipe, sounds easy enough, so will probably do this.Cold meats also sounds like a good idea. Thinking about it I'm not going to get chance to go into town for drinks,I live out in hope valley, but will be around Millhouses area tomorrow,so will try Aldi tesco and sainsburys, and any off licenses I see! Thanks again for suggestions though.
  3. I am going to a Eurovision party tomorrow, and have been allocated Greece and Romania as my countries. I have to provide nibbles and drinks for both countries, for about 20 people. I'm hoping not to have to go to too much trouble or expense as I've got a really busy day before. Greece is relatively easy,I thought just cocktail sticks with feta and olives, and either oozo or metaxa. but Romania is trickier, been googling it but nothing is standing out as an obvious choice,Jellied Brains stood out,but I don't fancy that! Had wondered about garlic soup, being Dracula country, but dont know if anyone will want any(or maybe its obligatory, never attended before!) but also thought it might be good to take one savoury and one sweet dish,so maybe some little cakes? Drinks don't have to be alcoholic,so any idea what fruit juice is a popular Romanian choice? Any suggestions would be great.(even if just particular flavours are popular in Romania) Lol,I'm probably taking the whole thing too seriously!
  4. It was our van originaly,we bought it as a ridiculous multi coloured hippy van, with the intention of doing it up into a family camper, but instead it sat as an eyesore on our drive for a couple of years. So gave it my bro,who has just got it sorted for use a couple of months ago. baby no.2 is due,and money is tight,so he could really do with out this. Its not really worth claiming on his insurance,as future premiums will increase. Please keep your eyes open for it,thanks.
  5. Hi my brothers transit van minibus was stolen the other night from the Ecclesall /Banner cross area.It was hand painted in a sludgy olive green colour and had a white top.It wasn't worth much, but he's only recently done a load of work on it,and sorted it out for its MOT,so he can use it as a work van.So it is a real pain for him. If anyone has seen it dumped anywhere or knows any thing please get in touch.I think it was "F" reg and the interior is painted mostly black.
  6. I've been a few times over the last year, mainly clearing out general junk thats been left in the garden and out buildings by previous tenants. I've always been just greatful to get rid of another car full! I don't really have a good or bad opinion of the staff, not really sure how much is to be expected of them, are they there to help? So what is the deal with taking stuff out?Are you meant to ask/pay? Does anyone know if it is o.k to take asbestos corrugated sheets there? There are are few bits gapping holes in the wall right up the garden, from off an old shed or something. How dangerous is this stuff, should I wear gloves, masks etc,or should I insist the landlord sort it out?Or am I being ridiculously paranoid??!
  7. Hhhmm interesting responses! Still no clear cut best place to go for value, quality and ease.Maybe thats what Sheffield is lacking in this healthy eating world, a wholesome pc burger bar! I like the youtube link, kids will also. I'm always struggling with what to make for tea,so i might shock em one of these days ,and create a giant burger. I know what the spoilt little urchins will say though! " I want my own burger,I don't want to share one!!"
  8. Interesting link Rook ,I shall have to check that out,as my little Sister is getting married in December and wants a barn dance ceilidh type band.I'm chief bridesmaid and trying to help out(shes on a very tight budget!).
  9. Yeah I do that at home sometimes, but just wanted to pop out and scoff one somewhere! Quickly easily and next time hopefully hassle free!
  10. Where do you get the best Burger and chips from in Sheffield?? I have three kids who like the occasional treat of a good burger. I dont want to have to pay silly money pub prices,as two of my kids like them plain but for tomato sauce, but the other three of us would like exciting garnishes, bacon, cheese, chilli, salad, gerkins for example. We live out in Hope Valley and last Saturday we decided to pop into Sheffield.Kids weren't really up for it,so we persuaded them by saying "we'll go out for a burger at Grindleford cafe on the way" which they liked the sound of.So off we trundled. Got there queued for ages whilst trying to sort out orders of food and drinks, and changes of minds for the kids.Got to the front reeled off the well memorised list, and they said "sorry no Burgers left!!" I know this is not a big deal on a world wide scale-but argghh,it's so rare we have lunch out, thought a burger and chips would be easy! How could they run out of burgers on a saturday lunch time bank holiday weekend(the old owner may have had amusing quirky not particularly friendly signs up,but he always had burgers to sell! mmmm!) So flustered and not wanting to hold up the queue going through the rigmoral of getting kids to chose an alternative we decided to get one somewhere else. So headed to the cafe in Dore-it was shut. At this point we should of given up and just picked up anything somewhere, but no,we were now on a burger mission! (there used to be a yummy place when I was a teeneger near the Robin Hood on Abbeydale road south, but alas no longer mmmmmm they did amazing ones with bacon and cheesey sauce, drove past there and reminissed!) Tried Sainsburys cafe,no burgers. I can hear you all shouting"THERES A MCDONALDS DRIVE IN JUST NEXT TO SAINSBURYS !!" and yes there is,but although the rest of us were willing to drop our principles and end the burger mission there ,and stuff our faces on piddly burgers, and super salty fries(yum!) from the evil Mc Donalds, one Son said "no I won't eat Mc Donalds,Mc Donalds are really bad bla bla bla..."( all the stuff I've ever said to them on suggesting going to Mc Donalds!!) So I had to respect and encourage him sticking to his principles and continue the mission. So we drove along (Sc)abbydale Road, saw a few un appetizing looking places open ,and if we had been able to pull up and park we may of given one a go,but instead we kept driving and headed into town. Tried Waitrose cafe,no joy. Parked in NCP above Atkinsons, tried their cafe,no burgers. Went onto the Moor, nearly got one from the greasy looking stall in the middle of Moor, but after hunting so long that just didn't seem good enough!Couldn't see any alternaive places,so headed to Chubbys, shut. I thought by the time we got to town we'd be spoilt for choice. Ended up going to The Weatherspoons(I think thats what it was) pub just above Coles Clearance, where they had a burger meal deal with chips and choice from 14 drinks for £4.59 or something. So finally fed 5 of us for under £23.( thats including two cokes, one pint Marsdens, one J20 and a bottle of beer.) The burger hunt was finaly over, and the conclusion was pretty good, but I think by that time they were starving!!Overall though, good price quick service pleasant enough food, with little waste. What a long ridiculous night mare!! - in hindsight we should of just had a bacon butty at Grindleford which would probably been far superior to the burgers but... After eating popped into Coles clearance, arrrgghhh again!! Thats another story, but to cut it short make sure you check you get charged correct amount ,I had to go through the paying and un paying palava three times before they got it right, and had I of got home and realised it would of been harder to sort it.Took them so long to sort it had to pay another hour at carpark!! So any suggestions where we could try next time for the best reasonably priced burger ,chips, and drink ?
  11. Yuk,I was seriously considering joining next week, but I'm definately put off now. I was a bit dubious already though,as I recently went with my sister, and was surprised that very few people were sitting on towels in the sauna and steam room areas,as the signs ask you to.There was also an older man on the sun loungers with a mobile phone, call me paranoid but I have a strong suspicion,(which could be completely wrong)that he was taking photos.
  12. Thats great news!! Took me a while to post my previous message,so missed your last post. I feel relieved,so you must be feeling like a huge weight of worry has been lifted.
  13. Just wanted to say hope he turns up safe and well.I'll be thinking of you and following the thread. My sister has her ups and downs, and has on several occasions just gone off,not bothering to tell anyone, sometimes for weeks at a time. And it is awful the worry you go through.Especially as when she does this,it is when she is(but wont acknowledge it) fairly unhinged, confused, paranoid and vulnerable. She doesn't think its anyones business but her own what she does,as she is an adult. But naturally you worry as most people would say I'm off to ...I'l be back around....She doesn't even tell my Mum who lives next door but one,and ask her to feed the cat.The cat just turns up at Mums, and she knows. And some of the situations she gets herself into...............!! So I know how awful it is waiting for someone to get in touch.Hopefully he just needs a bit of headspace and will be back soon.Try not to worry too much, and stay positive. And Jamie if your reading this, just get in touch tell them your o.k. Stay away longer if thats what you need to do.But remember, your family is only so worried, cos they love you so much!
  14. There are some good cashback deals if you look on Quidco(affiliate site-google it) It usually takes a couple of months for your cash back ,but its not a con! I have just sorted my insurance out with the co-op via Quidco, which gives me £120 cashback.Worth checking out as there are a lot of insurers on there. You have to sign up to Quidco, which is free, then visit other sites through their site and then you get the cash back-as easy as that!
  15. We did this for french skipping, starting in middle of elastic, then for England youd jump so your feet were either side of one elastic, then for Ireland over to the other side etc for Scotland and wales, then back inside then outside both, then land on both elastics, pushing them to the ground for on the scales.we'd start quite low,and each time you landed on the scales correctly it went up a bit higher. England,Ireland,Scotland,Wales inside, outside on the scales. For normal skipping-two swinging, one jumping, it was; Bluebells, cockle shells, indy andy over how many boys did you kiss last night,1,2,3,....
  16. Jabberwocky I always look forward to reading your posts,as they never fail to amuse! Particularly your daughters bedtime logic,on a different thread.Classic! I cant think of a particular situation right now,in answer to the question though.
  17. I think I recall something similar happening to me.I cant remember exactly,I don't think its anything to worry about.Sorry not much help! But when I need Ebay help I always use the ebay section on moneysavingexpert.com the other users on their are super helpful, theres people on who really know their stuff, and I'd recommend you asking them, I have had many ebay worries and woes that have been eased by help off them. Heres a link to a search of similar situations: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=629011&highlight=pending+payment and heres the link to the ebay board in general: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=40

  19. Bumping ,as I put this recipe up late last night/early this morning. And I don want it go get missed! Anyone made any yet? Just think, in 20 mins from reading this, you could be scoffing them!
  20. Hi Thanks for the fox House advise. As it happens I didn't go to Sheffield today.I went to Bakewell(from Bradwell) the road from Ashford in the water to Bakewell was closed, and I had to take a diversion,no idea if that was due to flooding though.
  21. I've only been making scones for the last couple of years as I never realised how easy they are!Any fool could make them. This is the basic recipe, but you can add what you like e.g grated cheese and mustard powder, herbs, pesto, olives, raisins ,cherries and mixed spice, apple and cinnamon, dried apricot etc. you can add a little sugar-but not too much-for the sweet versions, but you don't need to.(makes approx 9 medium sized ones I find) *8oz self raising flour *1 teaspoon baking powder *1 1/2 0z marg/butter *milk to bind together 1.)rub the fat into the flour and baking powder to make "breadcrumbs" using hands or mixer. 2.)Add enough milk to bind,so it is stiff enough to shape into balls with hands. 3.)Add any other ingredients you chose to use. 4.)Shape into balls place on a greased, floured baking tray and flatten somewhat(if you want a golden finish, smear over with milk) 5.)bake in a oven at about 220c for about 10 mins-or untill they sound hollowish when you knock them(don't worry its fairly obvious when their done!) For those who don't bake regularly and are put of by weights, dont be as an oz is approx one heaped table spoon for flour or sugar. 1 1/2 oz marg = a dollop and a half!!!(imagine the shape and size of 1oz of the flour,if this helps!) nothings set in stone,as long as the basic ratios are vaguely right. If its too sticky, you need a bit more flour.its all trial and error. These scones are yummy, especialy straight from the oven,They are not like the ones my mum made, not sure which I prefer! OOOOh please everyone give my recipe a go and you'll see how easy it is,maybe you could think me up some other combinations,mm got me thinking now, pizza scones!
  22. I live out in Hope valley, and I drove to Sheffield earlier on today, and the road all the way from Bamford service sation, all the way into Sheffield via fox house was flooded in many places,at times almost like driving down a river, and a 20 min drive took me at least 45. I need to go in tomorrow again,I'm wondering whether to go over Ringinglow way ,anyone know what state that is in?
  23. I mentioned this to my lovely single friend (she could do with some love in her life!)and she's asked me to keep an eye on this thread,as if you organize an event, she would quite like to join in the fun.
  24. Come on everybody, every penny/pound counts,if everyone donated just £1,so much money could be made to help these tiny little babies who are fighting for life. Mark, I don't know you,but I have followed your story from the beginning, its been heart breaking, and for some reason, you were in my thoughts on Christmas day. Although nothing can bring back your two boys,I understand how raising money for others in a similar situation, somehow makes you feel a little bit better, and it is a good positive thing to do. My younger brother died from Meningitis c,when he was 16.My sister and I did a charity abseil zipwire in his name, and I don't know why it makes you feel a bit better, but it does.I plan to do more in the future. To be honest I am a bit slack, but like I said before, every penny, and gesture of help,is always appreciated by the relevant charities. Good luck in reaching your targets.
