Delbow
Meaning a coarse, loud, abrasive person lacking in social niceties - it's a perjorative. I'm sure I got told this by a reyt proper Sheffielder but never heard anyone else use it and can't find owt online. Anyone else ever heard it? It was used in the 1980s in West Yorkshire for, as you said someone lacking social niceties. But I've not heard anyone in Sheffield use it in all the time I've lived here. People down here tend to call someone lacking social niceties "a scrubber". Edited January 19 by Mister M

Delbow
Yeah I think I must have misheard it or it's a kind of false memory. Although I think it's actually a good word.
