Exactly. We were only in there once years ago because it was the only thing open in Broomhill after the pubs shut. We knew it was wrong. Pictures on the wall upstairs of Chris Waddle, Carlton Palmer and David Hirst eating there didn’t persuade us otherwise.

The memorable meal was a chicken madras which seemed to be made hastily from a tin of tomatoes, curry powder (!) and 5 small lumps of chicken.

They milked that place and I’m glad it’s gone.

Broomhill has some great traders who have provided a good service to customers for many years. Look over the road at Record Collector for example. BK chose a different approach.

When did Mick Jagger eat there?

If he ever did then maybe it was in the early/mid 70s when Hallam Towers was the hotel for visiting superstars (e.g. Bowie).

Was Balti Ming even around then?

Broomhill could do with a decent curry house although to be fair they aren't many decent places in Sheffield anymore. Would be nice to have a few quality ales in Itchy Pig and then stroll across the road for a top notch curry...

At the minute our go to place is Cafe Indus on London Road.

Apparently Cutlers up near Gleadless Town End is closing too...

Have you tried Bambukat, just over the road from Balti King? Sells its wares as "Indian Street food" rather than the standard menu list of korma, madras etc but have had some delicious curries from there.

Yeah I tried it. Thought it was OK. Tbf it was about 4 years ago and maybe we should give it another go. I seem to remember having a thali plate which wasn't as good as Hungry Buddha in the new market.

I had the worst curry ever in Balti King, disgusting food, surprised it's stayed open as log as it has. They deserve to be gone!

I know some people who genuinely believed they did great curries...

I can only imagine they were half-cut, have dodgy taste buds...or have never been to anywhere decent in their life.

Each to their own I suppose...
