According to the europa website the programme is only due to last until 2020.

It'll  be of concern to the non-British if it's  not replaced.

This falls very much into the "so what?" category of first-world non-problems.  Universities in the EU27 nations still accept UK students and UK universities still accept students from EU27 nations.

Sure, EU27 universities will still accept wealthy UK students. To get back to the original point.

Less than 300,000 UK students in thirty years? 

 

The total number of Higher Education students in the UK was 2,343,095 in 2017/18 alone.

 

So a tiny, insignificant number of UK Erasmus students studied in the EU. 

 

In fact, more UK students go to study in the US and Australia than to all of the 27 EU countries combined.

L00b cited figures of those students taking part in the Erasmus programme. If you don’t know what that is, you might like to check it out before you embarrass yourself any further.

In 2014/2015 international students delivered 25 billion in income to the UK. Brexit and additional Visa requirements for EU students will have a negative impact. Up until August this year there was a believe that EU students would be exempt from visa requirements in any Brexit Deal to be agreed. No deal Brexit will mean all EU students will need a visa.  

 

Sheffield is reliant on international students far in excess of most UK cities. The University of Sheffield calculated its international students were responsible for £230 million to S1 postcode in 2018/2019 academic year alone. This excludes Hallam, so add another 100 million there. 

 

To put that into context, John Lewis' national profit over 2018 was just over 100 million. 

 

Underestimate the impact of universities on the UK economy at your own peril.
