PRESLEY
Another runway proposed at Heathrow, as though it's not big enough already, the alternative is Gatwick, why not give other cities a chance to create new jobs, London London, all the flipping time, they are only proposals and the goverment has the say on where, so don't hold your breath thinking any other city is going to get a chance while this lot are in. FuriousGeorg
Probably because there is a lot of people wanting to fly into London, not a city three hours away from London? Building another runway in Sheffield isn't going to create demand! There don't appear to be any flights to France from there, that would be a start! RollingJ
As a point of interest, in case people haven't noticed, Sheffield Airport is no more' Just saying.

You're about a decade too late to hope anything will happen with what used to be Sheffield airport.
dutch
It has been years since we been to robin hood airport. But when it was still active and usable we used it a lot and loved it's cuteness out there. It was so tiny and did not even have a proper exit from M18 to directly drive there but has a big enough (old military) runway where even the space shuttle could make an emergency landing. Doncaster council were subsidising the airport for a good few years after it opened - it was losing money year on year. Don't know if it still is........ geared
Why are people so hellbent on a Sheffield airport?? Who wants big sodding jets flying right overhead anyway?? Leeds/Bradford, Manchester and Robin Hood are close enough anyway - let them deal with the noise.

Wouldn't matter which lot where in power, airlines want to fly into London, specifically Heathrow. Have you seen how much 1 pair of landing slots can be sold for at Heathrow, it's 10's of millions of £.
