NorthernStar   11 #373 Posted June 12, 2013 Seems fair enough to me, I was worried that they were going to force us back onto the evil weed again; nothing wrong with a bit of regulation and standards so long as it doesn't get silly. mimic   10 #374 Posted June 12, 2013 20% isn't enough of the cake for them.  They will claim it's our well being that's their main concern.... yeah ok!!  As with all things that are needed or popular, they will hit it hard with tax and claim it's for the benefit and greater good of all.  30 months will give them time to come up with another bulls**t law on how to over tax a none alcohol, tobacco or petroleum product though. Pie n ear   10 #375 Posted June 12, 2013 Well someone on the news this morning obtusely referred to it in terms of basically the government are "cacking" themselves, wondering how they might make up the lost revenue if everyone switches to e-cigs.  Yes isn't/wasn't there a similar scenario surrounding herbal remedies that now have to be licensed to sell. PeteMorris   10 #376 Posted June 12, 2013 Yes isn't/wasn't there a similar scenario surrounding herbal remedies that now have to be licensed to sell.  I'm not sure, I don't recall that. But being a smoker then, I wouldn't have dreamed of switching to herbal things. Yuk. Whereas I'm now an ex-smoker thanks to the e-cigs. And guess what the most pleasurable aspect is? Not having to pay the extortionate 'duty' to the government! It's very satisfying!...hahaha
 Share this content via...

Currently they load duty on tobacco products under the guise that they want to make it expensive so people will quit. Along with the usual it cost the NHS x billions to treat smoking related diseases....I never quite subscribed to that notion. People die prematurely from smoking related diseases..that saves the NHS money surely?  Anyway....they can't use the health angle with e-cigs any more...Well not in the same manner.  Don't get me wrong, I'm all for regulation and quality control and making sure the liquids are regularly tested and has only got what they say is in them. I'm also in favour of it only being available to smokers who already smoke, as opposed to someone taking up e-cigs having never smoked, and minimum age restrictions too. So I'm not opposed to regulation...But taxation NO!!!!  ---------- Post added 12-06-2013 at 14:42 ----------  Guess I wasn't clear, I was reffering to herbal remedies for health matters other than smokers.  Ah...sorry...I misunderstood you there! XXTickerXX Â Â 10 #381 Posted June 12, 2013 The MHRA is NOT regulation, it is their advice to the EU. They are basically kicking it back to the EU, but they have to say something, so they have said this. So relax, stop panicking, it is an advisory note in an effort to back up McAvon, it is NOT REGULATIONS. Â The government is going to lose BILLIONS in lost revenue so they are panicking. Â They can`t ban batteries or glass receptacles or cartomizers and anyone can educate themselves on mixing their own liquids in 2 years so all in all its a near impossibility to implement. Nic base might be harder to get hold of but you could stock up for years before any laws came in. Â Not one person has died from E-cigs yet 1 person dies every 5 minutes from cigarettes. The lunatics really have took over.
 Share this content via...

lubylou12   10 #383 Posted June 12, 2013 (edited) Out of around 15 people I know that smoked, at least 10 of them now use e cigs, Me and my partner were the first to get one and most of my family and friends have followed on after, all of us have quit, not one of us has failed, I bought my mum one who has tried everything else to give up and for the first time she has gone 6 week without a real cig, the longest ever in 32 years, I am so proud. SO me, my mum, my sister, two uncles, aunt, partner, and many friends have made an easy more healthy switch. I use my e cig proudly, I do not feel or look stupid, I often get asked about it. I get to enjoy vaping and the flavours, save money and I am healthier.  ---------- Post added 12-06-2013 at 21:06 ----------  The MHRA is NOT regulation, it is their advice to the EU.
