  1. I used to volunteer at the youth club there - does Sally still run it? Sorry can't help with the chairs but do post if you need anything else, I'm sure there are all sorts of odds and ends around that could be put to better use than clogging up people's homes. I work at a youth club on the other side of the city and we are struggling for funding too.
  2. Think I know who you mean, I used to see him walking along the side of the A57 around the Beighton roundabout up the hill towards the Crystal Peaks/Halfway one if you know where I mean. I don't work out that way anymore though so wasn't sure if that was the reason I hadn't seen him.
  3. I work for a youth club in Arbourthorne and we are really struggling for funding, in an area that desperately needs something to keep the young people occupied and out of trouble. It just doesn't make any sense!
  4. I've never known of any trouble around the Heeley area so I would imagine it's just your usual anti-social behaviour, if anything. I don't think it's the richest area in Sheffield but that doesn't mean it's a bad area. It's funny but 500m can be plenty in terms of what your area is like - I live close to a "dodgy" area and we have been burgled but even the police were surprised, but I would just say keep your usual wits about you, don't leave your house unlocked etc etc, all the usual stuff really. We love Sheffield! :-)
  5. Some people on this forum really make me ashamed of Sheffield at times. The constant accusations and assumptions that people are coming to "sponge" etc - whatever happened to giving people a chance and making these comments if they become relevant in the future? Why does every thread I read have to turn into a slanging match after a perfectly simple and innocent OP? Jerro22 - I have friends on Wincobank and they are very friendly and will most certainly welcome you and your family. My advice though - bring an umbrella and several jumpers ;-)
  6. Sheffield By The Sea or whatever it's called is apparently back in August at the Peace Gardens.
  7. Got 2 lower tier ones at 9.05 this morning :-) Could have had standing but I wasn't sure I wanted them...could live to regret it?! Pulp was the soundtrack to my teenage years, can't wait to hear all the old hits - never got to see them as I lived in Cumbria miles from anything! I hate the fact that people are already selling them on ebay, scumbags.
  8. Well done everyone! I had a great day, even though I plodded round. Hear hear to the family with the water sprays, they were lifesavers! And to the p*ssed bloke offering his bottle of water :-) Shame the website is down especially for people wanting info about the race and road closures etc. Yes the race is normally in April, very late this year for some reason. Just found that link 1978 but thanks :-)
  9. Good luck everyone! Wugzy - I'm a first-timer too, only done 10ks and one 9 miler previously. You'll be fine :-) I can't believe people can be so uncharitable moaning about road closures etc. It'll be a scorcher, GET OFF THE BUS AND WALK FOR ONCE ;-)
  10. My former colleague's husband was killed in the crash. Such a waste of a life. It was apparently due to a car jumping the red lights but I'm not sure the police have confirmed this yet. He has been named in the Star today (I think, if not yesterday). RIP Adrian xxxx
  11. Every time I come on this forum there are idiots who can't take the OP's question seriously! Anyway, in answer to the question, I think it depends on the playcentre and its size, but I don't feel the need to see them on a screen. I know some parents like to sit and have a coffee and take it as a time out from the children (while their kids run riot) but personally I like to know at least which area they are in, and go and check on them if I have not seen them for a couple of minutes. The Play Arena, for example, is massive so I didn't feel comfortable losing sight of my kids there and pretty much followed them round, as it was very busy too, whereas the Megacentre is so small that I'm happy for my daughter to just run around and pop back every now and then. So no, I don't see the need for CCTV for parents to watch at all. It'd be like going out for a meal and having a video monitor on your table to check the kids were ok to save on babysitters :-)
  12. They have just changed their policy - I took stuff back a few weeks ago and they would exchange it without receipt but only there and then, no credit notes anymore. And if the item is no longer stocked they won't exchange it at all. I found it really annoying to be honest as I didn't need to spend the value of the stuff I was returning at that moment in time! I guess some people take the mick so they've had to change the rules.
  13. Why can't some people on this forum ever STICK TO THE TOPIC IN THE OP!!! Can't help on the tutoring front with Maths and English I'm afraid, but if you ever need French or Spanish help drop me a line :-)
  14. That is awful, having just had our house broken into and laptop among other things stolen I can sympathise with the loss of photos etc plus extra inconvenience. Hope they catch the scumbags. How low can you go?!
  15. Thanks for sharing this, there are some things I had no idea about (like people going round trying doors so they can burgle your house - like ours). Keep pursuing it, the police shouldn't be telling you to sort it out yourself!
  16. When my waters broke it was just a trickle that felt like I'd weeed myself so I would say it probably is. Hope things are going well for you by now! x
  17. Archi - yes sadly it looks like we didn't lock the back door when we went to bed. Triple checking them all now. We hardly use that door so had assumed it was still locked. Rothschild - yes I couldn't agree more with everything you've said. They are getting away with it and there isn't much the police than do other than catch them in the act. The DC I spoke to even said some officers come revving with sirens going so they hear them a mile off and run off. Good to hear there's been activity around Arbourthorne police-wise and a group of 4-5 youths sounds about right, although there was a minor (ish) incident outside the club recently so it may have been that. Fingers crossed some stuff gets recovered eventually - they reckoned the TV was the best shot as we gave the police the serial number. Alchresearch - yes it is something we are kicking ourselves over but I genuinely thought external hard drives were expensive which is why I had been putting it off. A ticking off from you is really not helpful. Some of us have busy lives and often backing up our data is the furthest thing from our minds when dealing with young children every day and flitting backwards and forwards to work trying to scrape cash together to pay the mortgage.
  18. Thanks Mark. The police are doing what they can but these are juvenile lads sneaking around trying unlocked doors, wearing gloves and in and out in minutes. They left no evidence and will have moved the goods on straight away. The police said they have raided their houses several times and not found anything and if they stop them on the street when they are hanging around looking suspicious they have nothing on them and just say they are going to a mate's house, and said mate will always cover for them. At least they know who they are and are watching them closely. Who knows in the future we might get our laptop back :/ I just can't imagine living such a <removed> life where you hate the police because you are up to no good so they are always on your back, and taking people's things, upsetting their lives for a tenner for drugs here and there. For God's sake my 1 year old boy and 3 year old girl were sleeping upstairs
  19. Thanks :-) The idiots haven't even taken the right remote for the TV, the laptop lasts 5 mins when not plugged in and the camera isn't charged! Grr....
  20. Hi my house was burgled last night and they stole the following items if anyone sees any of them in the Arbourthorne/Manor Top area: Sharp 32" LCD TV Compaq black laptop (all family photos stored on it) Red/maroon leather handbag, loads of papers and crap in it and a nice green/teal purse Canon silver camera, battery run out but memory card with loads of family photos on They also stole our car but that has been recovered in Arbourthorne, seemingly intact but no key card (Renault Laguna) If anyone has any info please PM me or contact SY Police, or if you see any of these items. The photos in particular are the worst thing about it all :-( Thanks for looking. xx
  21. I've hacked out at Haddon House and they are lovely there - really nice horses and friendly owners. I haven't been for a couple of years now though due to having babies and the cost - last I heard it was £65 for a 2 hour hack which, although lovely, I am just not able to afford at the moment. I have also had lessons at Parklands for several years and love it there - it had gone up to about £22 an hour (group lesson) last time I went about 18 months ago, but no they don't do hacks unfortunately. I like the look or Rocky's but how much is it all? I wish they'd put prices on!
  22. Just googled it and it's on the 17th.
  23. Thanks Azzie, it is like a parent's worst nightmare isn't it?! I remember my sister left her beloved Bibby (a bib!) on a wall somewhere and it was never seen again, but I think she must have been about 5 or 6 at the time so not so bad!
