March's planned Premier League nights in Newcastle and Rotterdam were postponed recently, and with further restrictions now in place worldwide, the first two events scheduled in April will also now be staged later in 2020. In line with the rescheduling of other nights to extend the Unibet Premier League season during 2020, the visit to The FlyDSA Arena in Sheffield - originally on Thursday April 9 - has been rescheduled for Thursday July 2. Tickets purchased for the original league nights will remain valid for the new dates. 6. Bosses at the ten Ice Hockey Elite League clubs have cancelled all matches with immediate effect. League chiefs had hoped to complete the regular season and in the wake of last evening’s government guidelines, based on the up-to-the-minute scientific advice to allow sporting fixtures to continue, that seemed possible. League bosses staged an emergency conference call after the Government’s latest announcement on the coronavirus outbreak. Impending restrictions on crowd sizes in Scotland were an issue that was being further considered overnight. However, since then two teams have now reported they have players in self-isolation purely as a precaution but the health and safety of our fans, players and staff has to be paramount. In the wake of that news the Elite league has no choice but to shut down the rest of the season. The league feels it has taken its ‘can-do, will-do’ efforts to the limit and whilst the outcome is sure to disappoint fans across the country there was no alternative in these unprecedented times. We are confident everyone will understand the rationale behind the league’s decision. Steelers owner and EIHL boss Tony Smith has been chairing many meetings and conference calls in the last week, leading to this mornings decision to cancel the EIHL for the remainder of this season. “It’s been a tough week on many levels,” said Smith “We have to take so many things into account, most importantly the health of our players, fans and staff. “We looked at every option possible but as stated in the EIHL media release we had no option but to take this very disappointing decision this morning. “We are sure many fans have so many questions relating to purchased tickets, season tickets and play off’s. Can we please ask that you all refrain from contacting either the Arena or our offices until early next week when further statements will have been issued.
