  1. Sheffield band High Hazels are currently sitting at Number one in the Amazing Radio (Gateshead/Newcastle based online/digital station playing new and emerging artists with their fantastic latest song 'Sequin Eyes'. One of my favourite new songs in living memory.
  2. Happy Birthday for the 4th John - have a great day! #12
  3. Horrible area (and inhabitants) - disappointing as it's one of the main walking routes from the station and always embarrassing when welcoming visitors. I avoid it whenever possible.
  4. The large 'lego' concrete blocks in Nursery Street presumably waiting positioning as part of the flood defence works have now been covered over so presumably there's going to be a hiatus. Meanwhile arrogant/blind/stupid drivers continue to drive the wrong way along the inbound lane of Nursery St and also (inexplicably) turn left from Stanley St into Johnson St then right (ignoring the 'left only' sign into Nursery St - when it's far more direct to continue along Stanley St into Spitalfields.
  5. This is certainly needed. For everyone else too.
  6. Seconded - I think Planner1's posts are excellent and very informative. And no, I don't work for the council.
  7. During the flood defence enhancement works Nursery Street has been made one way only (inbound) between the Harlequin pub and Lady's Bridge. It's clearly signposted at the Lady's Bridge End that the road is closed and barriers are in place. Despite this I notice cars and vans proceeding outbound along the full length of the one-way section several times a day. Even more frequently (and even more inexplicably) vehicles are regularly turning left off the outbound diversionary route (Stanley Street) onto Johnson St then (despite the 'Left Only' arrow at the junction by the church) then turning right to drive outbound on the inbound only section of Nursery Street. This baffles me completely as surely it's more direct (and legal) to continue along Stanley Street onto Spitalfields to reach the remaining short two way section of Nursery Street by the Harlequin pub. Hopefully some blind (or so it would seem) driver's car or van will at some stage be irreparably damaged by contact with an inbound bus or lorry.
  8. If the link below doesn't work (I don't seem to be able to post images here) please PM me as I have a copy dated March this year EDIT: Link removed as doesn't work. If admin can see their way to allow me to post an image I could post the fare table required.
  9. Super Early Bird tickets now on sale for 2017. Only £25 (plus fees, but still under £30 with postage) for the whole weekend. Much cheaper than waiting to nearer the time. http://tramlines.gigantic.com/tramlines-sheffield-city-centre-various-venues-2017-07-21-12-00
  10. High Hazels tonight once again proved they're the finest band around
  11. Roll on October - this rancid heat can do one back to the Sahara or whichever festering hellhole/cesspit of the world it originated from.
  12. I'd actually consider contributing to food-banks if I could be categorically assured that none of the beneficiaries might ever have prioritised smoking and 'home entertainment systems' (for the avoidance of doubt I don't own a TV of any size) over feeding themselves and their family.
  13. Clearly no-one in authority 'round these parts' cares about decent people being hassled, it's all "they're just sad unfortunate people (could easily have been you or me) let down by the system" (no concept of personal decency and responsibility then). Just such a shame that decent people whose lives are being ruined are seemingly not allowed to even air their entirely understandable grievances.
  14. Why hasn't a mod locked this pointless thread yet?
  15. One was heading (on the road) from Bridgehouses Roundabout towards Shalesmoor c. 21:30 last night. Unnecessarily loud but it wasn't being driven particularly irresponsibly
  16. I certainly agree about drinking while standing up - especially where there's nowhere to stand without being in the way of people accessing the bar/toilets/exit (and nowhere to place your glass between sips/'glugs'). I think most of the more trendier/interesting beers I drink are made under railway arches or on business/industrial estates in London but I enjoyed the 'topnotch hopscotch' quote The toilets just aren't a priority to me - it's the pub floor/carpet I'm treading wee (or worse) into on exit not mine.
  17. Food isn't a vital ingredient of a good pub to me. Crisps and 70p bread rolls are more than sufficient (and I don't even bother with those 99% of the time). The smell of pub food is generally at best a distraction and at worse offensive.
  18. Shakespeare's has undoubtedly the best range of beers and is therefore the best pub. I couldn't care less what the toilets are like - a discreet wall would suffice. I do avoid the place on Fridays and Saturdays though as it can be overrun by the "I'm a proper drinker me - pint of Carling please" brigade and, as someone else has commented, the layout doesn't work when the pub is full of the "spatially unaware". With the honourable exception of North Riding and Blue Bee (and very occasional appearances by Siren and Redwillow) many of the "hoppy beers" in the KIT are sadly anything but - and I generally find myself relying on the keg line for anything truly distinctive. Wonderful staff though and in general there's less shouting than in the Shakey. Congratulations to Kate and her team at the Three Tuns too - a huge achievement in winning the "Non-KIT" Pub of the Year Award.
