  2. albert as a teenager back in the early 70's, i went across the breadth of the canal and back behind the fox house pub on shirland lane in a tin-bath, i can tell you that it was very unstable and how the hell i didn't end up 'in the drink' i'll never know:gag:, i actually fell in 'the cut' swinging on a rope under the bridge at the same place when i was about six years old, i dog paddled back to the towpath- now that was scarey as the water was bloody bright orange:gag: much cleaner now though:) john:)
  3. i believe genes reunited is supposed to be very good, it's an offshoot of friends reunited:) john:)
  4. hi hitman funny you should ask...., i've been planning on selling it but can't get it out of the garage as my sons (spare) 205gti is blocking the exit, his car has no engine/gearbox/ driveshafts in:mad: we were supposed to be putting an mi16 lump in but haven't got around to it yet:roll: will be in touch when we get his car rolling:D john:)
  5. Hello jabba 'fraid i bought 'em,for a group (forest) planting you'll need a large-ish very shallow dish (usually oval too), group plantings usually consist of an odd number of trees to avoid symmetry, also, for perspective larger trees are planted at the front and in the centre, the smaller ones give it the perspective. oak (quercus sp) can be prone to fungal infection but can be controlled with systemic fungicide. when repotting your present oak, try removing the thick roots a portion at a time, take say a quarter of the rootage away next spring and repot into a larger plant pot, this will give it chance to grow feeder roots from the wound, do this each year and it should be ok in 3/4 years. if they can be untangled without too much damage, they could become a feature as a spreading rootstock (nebari) is coveted in bonsai. if you could untangle the thicker roots, you can strip some 2.5mm copper mains flex (twin & earth)they can be wired apart radially to make a nice spread. john:)
  6. i have a 1971 toyota crown custom estate in my garage, been in the family since it was about 6 months old, it was a gorgeous car in it's time but hasn't turned a wheel in anout 15years:(, i used to start it up every 2/3 years but can't even get to it now:mad:(covered in all sorts of junk/rubbish:roll: engine is 2600cc, 3speed toyoglide auto transmission, seeker radio and auto ariel along with an 8 track cartridge player:hihi: chassis number 000000000072:o john:)

  9. a reply for adzSF why are you having a go at the commander, i had a friend where i work, he was about six feet four inches but not overly heavy, every time he went out at the weekend for a few beers some beer filled idiot wanted to have a go at him, he was the nicest bloke that you could hope to meet but because he was the biggaest among his group, the said idiots once full of beers suddenly (in their minds) were ten feet tall and could take on the world, it's called dutch courage and comes with copious quantities of alchohol. it got so bad that he stopped going out at the weekends and now stays in watching the crap that's put on telly:gag: so i reckon what the commander stated is fair game, he probably caught a lot of the flack just because he's so big and the resulting 'thick ear' that the trouble causers recieved, imho was very well justified:D regards, john:)
  10. ahhhh, gotcha, i must have my 'thickie' head on today:D:D cheers, john:)
  11. i'm fairly certain that if i had eight legs, i'd be tripping over them all of the time:loopy: john:D
  12. sorry heyesy i don't understand your question? john:)
  13. hello does anyone remember paying into a fund (at work, it was nationwide) on a weekly basis, it was paid to union shop stewards and was either £4 or £2 depending on whether skilled or otherwise, the fund was upto 12million quid and from memory, about half of it was paid out to workers that had to go on strike to get a reduced working week. i remembered what it was called- DRIVE FOR THIRTY FIVE,i never did find out what became of the other six million quid that was left over:(, i recall that some of the interest from the fund was used (without permission) to refurbish some union offices and that it had to be paid back into the fund by that union. i'm wondering what happened to the residue as, a workmate used to always ask about it at meetings and was always stubbed out and ignored:( so, maybe someone has become rich at all of the contributors expense, i don't know but nothing was ever made public to the people that paid in to it:mad: john:roll:
  14. Sorry for draggin' up this old topic but, what tree were you going to put into the wokki jabba?? john:)
  15. hey up all does anyone know how the 'lump' managed to be in the centre of the carriageway?, where i work, we use 1 cubic metre concrete blocks and they weigh in at two tonnes, i saw the last pic where it came from but didn't read anywhere how it came to rest there:confused: john:)
  16. hey up all coming back from the marsh lane bootsale this morning there were paramedics and an ambulance at the scene of an accident, a dark coloured car was on it's roof, i was directed through by one of the medics, there was someone on their knees getting something out of the upturned car (i think so anyhow), it was between the blackamoor pub an the T junction , i think it's called snowden lane. did anyone else witness it, it looked like a bad accident that didn't involve any other vehicles regards, john:|
  17. in graves park today?? i can hear a plane accelerating and diving about the sky, i'm at greenhill, sounds like aerobatics or something:) john. i'd best go out and have a look:D
  18. wow-they're very good pics, i once tried taking 35mm pix of a solar eclipse, i used a reactalite welding visor, it worked fine and i'm not blind:D , but out of 24 exposures, i got about three useable pix:( (the weather was very cloudy:mad: ) john:)
  19. i've not tried that yet but i will when i transer some pix that i took yesterday (from the top of wharncliffe edge)onto photobucket. thanks, john. ps, even though these pics can't be viewed on the camera screen, they're there when brought up on the computer monitor:confused:
  20. hi i've a problem with my digi-cam in that, i've taken some pictures with it and when i put the camera into 'view' mode, there are loads of images which are just black and displaying a red box with a red cross inside from corner to corner (like the scottish flag). i was told that it was because i'd used too much memory (though i once filled the card whilst in video mode with no ill effect) i backed up the pics onto cd then emptied the memory and it's still happening. it makes no mention of these in the manual. the camera is a traveler 8.1 mp with a 512 mb sd card. any ideas anyone?? possibly knackered sd card?? john:confused:
  21. try putting new batteries in-they're 3volt lithium batterries and these type of welding screens usually have two, probably cost about £3 total:D i've had mine for about ten years and never changed them yet, though i don't do much welding these days:cool: john:)
  22. hi kato the reply may be a few months late but there is the south yorkshire bonsai club located in chapeltown, they meet on every 3rd wednesday of the month and there are some real characters that are proper mr miyagi's:D http://goldstats.com/find/goplaces.cgi?cfg=config&url=www.southyorksbonsai.org.uk try the link (it may be of interest to other budding bonsai nutters:loopy: ) regards, john:)
  23. hi jabber, that was a forging that fell onto brightside lane and sunk to about three feet deep:D - it weighed about 150tonnes:rolleyes: john:)
  24. i'm not sure if anyone's interested but the largest casting ever made in great britain is being transported to davy markhams tonight (around midnight) it's being hauled by aleleys on a trailer that has no less than 176 wheels to spread the weight. at present the casting weighs 343tonnes, when cast it was closer to 580tonnes it's very impressive to watch this massive set-up carying the huge casting and the skill of the drivers is unbelievable. Big Job
